Title: General live scoring

Wise_Analyst - January 21, 2007 01:46 AM (GMT)
Berdych possessed by the spirit of Pete Sampras, he's given Tursunov a tennis lesson. 6-2, 6-1, 6-1.

Haas a set and break up against Mayer, in a match which is about as consequential to this tournament as an STD-ridden kangaroo.

Fish vs Ferrer just kicking off.

chetanpv - January 21, 2007 01:52 AM (GMT)
Eagerly waiting for Ancic - Roddick. Hope Ancic brings his best. We know Andy will. Should be a blockbuster.

Wise_Analyst - January 21, 2007 01:58 AM (GMT)
Ancic vs Roddick should be a classic. Ancic dismissed Federer's nemesis Hrbaty in the last round, and if he serve volleys well, you've got to expect a few tie-breaks. Hard to call, but I'll say Roddick in 4.

chetanpv - January 21, 2007 01:59 AM (GMT)
Fish has started off well against Ferrer. Boy the americans have come to life in this tournament. Still cant see anyone beating Nadal though the way he played yesterday.

Wise_Analyst - January 21, 2007 02:03 AM (GMT)
I predicted Ferrer to fry Fish, but another impressive performance from an American looks on the cards.

Blake or Gonzo will give Nadal a test in the QF, and Berdych's form has been incredible; if he can get to the semis that'd be a match to savour.

Roddick Ancic just started. Roddick to serve.

chetanpv - January 21, 2007 02:08 AM (GMT)
OMG what a double fault from Ancic on first point. Mistook tennis for baseball there.

chetanpv - January 21, 2007 02:10 AM (GMT)
Well this set is wrapped up. Roddick is a serious serious threat to win the championship.

Wise_Analyst - January 21, 2007 02:12 AM (GMT)
Ancic needs to get going fast. Roddick is blitzing him so far, he leads 3-0. He's not having much difficulty reading the Croat's serve, and he's simply overpowering him in terms of groundstrokes.

chet are you watching this on Star Sports via Sopcast? Is your feed a couple of points or so behind real time?

chetanpv - January 21, 2007 02:15 AM (GMT)
yes. the feed is two points behind live scores on the aus open website.
kind of spoils the viewing as we know what'll happen.

Wise_Analyst - January 21, 2007 02:20 AM (GMT)
I'm just resisting the temptation to look at the Aussie Open live scoring thing. When I was watching Djoko vs Udomchoke it was about almost two games behind

Roddick cruising, 4-1. Expect a simple 6-3 set.

chetanpv - January 21, 2007 02:23 AM (GMT)
Yes I've closed the aus open site and just hooked up the computer to the TV so it'll seem like a normal telecast.
Its all cruise control in this set now for Andy to take the set. Ancic wil have to pull up his socks to have any chance.

Wise_Analyst - January 21, 2007 02:33 AM (GMT)
Roddick closes it out 6-3. Ancic is more involved now though, blocking Roddick's serve back with some success and holding his own serve OK. Next set should go to the tie-break.

Is the quality good when you hook your computer up to the TV? My Sopcast clip's pretty grainy, otherwise I'd hook it up to my widescreen TV. Can only just see the ball as it is.

chetanpv - January 21, 2007 02:37 AM (GMT)
No its not clear at all. But the sound quality improves slightly. I am watching it minimized and not on full screen to have better resolution.

Roddick is playing about 8-10% of Sampras style and look at the success he is having. Hard to understand why other cant accept this.

Wise_Analyst - January 21, 2007 02:44 AM (GMT)
I was just thinking that - Roddick isn't half the player Sampras was, but he's 2nd favourite for every hard court tournament. His baseline game might have improved but it's still pretty unimpressive.

Ancic goes 2-1 ahead, but was 0-40 down in his first service game.

Ace - January 21, 2007 02:45 AM (GMT)
Berdych played really well I thought.Who is up next for him?

chetanpv - January 21, 2007 02:48 AM (GMT)
Nikolay "No weapons" Davydonkey

Wise_Analyst - January 21, 2007 02:52 AM (GMT)
Anyone know the status of 'No weapons' injury? He hasn't dropped a set so far, so I'm guessing he's recovered. He'll be hard to beat, but if Berdych keeps up this form he'd be favourite to progress.

3-3 now, second set.

chetanpv - January 21, 2007 02:54 AM (GMT)
Yes Roddick's game is ugly to watch. But I feel that if he goes on to meet Federer in the SF, his current game will be good enough to win. Unless Federer plays the match of his life.

Wise_Analyst - January 21, 2007 03:01 AM (GMT)
Roddick would certainly fancy his chances of beating Fed, but rebound ace doesn't favour his wham bam style so much. The Swiss reads A-Rod's serve well, and has a better baseline game. I'm sure he'll get some wins over Federer at the hard and grass court tournaments though and would probably eliminate him should they meet at Wimbledon or the US Open.

I think Roddick could get to the final here though, I'm convnced Gasquet will take Fed out in the QF.

4-3 Ancic.

chetanpv - January 21, 2007 03:01 AM (GMT)
Meanwhile Fish won the 2nd set. All american QF seems to be in the offing.

Wise_Analyst - January 21, 2007 03:07 AM (GMT)
Ancic gets the break, and will serve for the second set at 5-3.

chetanpv - January 21, 2007 03:10 AM (GMT)
Ancic seems to be choking 0-30. Thats what I hate about the current crop of players. The moment they get the chance, they fail to capitalize.

Wise_Analyst - January 21, 2007 03:12 AM (GMT)
Roddick chokes from 0-30 up and Ancic takes the 2nd set.

chetanpv - January 21, 2007 03:13 AM (GMT)
Well done by Mario. But I still think Roddick will take it in 4. Ancic's fitness is not that great. The third set will be key for him.

chetanpv - January 21, 2007 03:24 AM (GMT)
disastrous drop volley attempt by Ancic giving the break. He just lost the match right here.

tabithakitten - January 21, 2007 03:25 AM (GMT)
"I feel that if he goes on to meet Federer in the SF, his current game will be good enough to win. Unless Federer plays the match of his life. "

Strange. I actually feel that Djokovic has a better victory chance. Firstly, I think Federer struggles more against the relative unknown and secondly, I think a victory against Djokovic would give Federer confidence.

Wise_Analyst - January 21, 2007 03:26 AM (GMT)
Roddick gets the early break. I reckon he'll get it in 4 as well.

Smoked one joint too many; am gonna have to call it a night chet. Here's to Djoko not choking later :ok:

chetanpv - January 21, 2007 03:27 AM (GMT)
night wise. me retiring too to get up early mornin and watch the Djoko match..

Wise_Analyst - January 21, 2007 03:30 AM (GMT)
Djoko might be very good at disposing of the ATP deadwood, but he hasn't had a single 'big' win that I can remember. You're right that Federer generally struggles against first-time opponents, but he beat Djokovic handily in the Davis Cup and I don't see him being given too much trouble this time either.

Gasquet on the other hand...

chetanpv - January 21, 2007 03:30 AM (GMT)
tabithakitten

Yes I agree with you that Djoko hs a good chance of an upset but cant see it happenning in a best of 5.

Roddick seems to have luck on his side this tournament apart from his improved game. For e.g. that horrible drop shot giving him the break. Looks like the stars are aligning this tournament for him to win.

Wise_Analyst - January 21, 2007 03:33 AM (GMT)
Double break for Roddick. Now I really am going to bed. Night all.

chetanpv - January 21, 2007 03:35 AM (GMT)
Ancic is a net player. Cant understand why he is staying behind.
Oh the lost art of serve and volley...

Night all....

tabithakitten - January 21, 2007 03:42 AM (GMT)
"Oh the lost art of serve and volley" - yep I'm with you on that one.

Dinky Jo - January 22, 2007 09:09 AM (GMT)
Berdych and Davydenko in a tie-break in the 4th set, with Davydenko 2 sets to 1 up!!!

Dark_Necrofear - January 22, 2007 09:12 AM (GMT)
F Davydenko...How the hell does he keep winning.Ay no man,Come on Berdych!

Dinky Jo - January 22, 2007 09:13 AM (GMT)
5-5 in the tie-break! Come on Berdych!!!! :D

Dinky Jo - January 22, 2007 09:15 AM (GMT)

AHHHHGRPTHBGDSAAAAHHHHHHHH

Why these young guns do not perform as expected?...Gasquet and now Berdy ...

AHHHHGRPTHBGDSAAAAHHHHHHHH...

I like their Tennis but they are not able to move a step further and beat a Top 10 on the GS event...

Come on guys weak up!!!!! And in the same time we saw Haas coming back from nowhere... I know he always did well in the AO but still: Haas is there and Marat at home

Dinky Jo - January 22, 2007 09:40 AM (GMT)
Well, Davydenko will have to face Haas next, and I can't see Davydenko winning in all honesty!

I didn't watch the match, but Berdych appeared to do ok in the first and final sets, but just lost it entirely in the middle two! I really hoped he could been Davydenko, but in the end, I guess he must be in the top 5 in the world for a reason......

And i'm glad to see someone else is upset that Marat has gone home......

TV - I guess you feel the same as me after Robredo beat Gasquet!!

I thought Davydenko would win this in 4 (my first correct prediction for a few days) but I'm not happy about it. These young guns just can't step upto the plate in the Slams when it really matters.
