Well done serena, all she has just done is promote chubbyness in our society. I am shocked she could move she looks like a flamming whale.

Its not like Petrova played badly though, her serving was phenomenal at times

you have to feel for nadia  it's took bad that great serve deserted her on set point in the 2nd. that dfault was dreadful

So pleased about this victory, I had to stay up and watch all of the match so I am now asleep on my desk after just 3 hours sleep...
But, and I never thought I would hear myself saying this a couple of years back but... I am so so so glad she won, it was great to see her fire some of those winners, when she was 5-4 down in the 2nd. It showed glimpses of classic Serena which made me realise just how much she is missed and how great it would be for the tour is she was back at the top of her game. One point would be that Nadia did, on occasion really showed up a lack of mobility on Serena's part and it seemed surprising to see someone on the other side of the net hitting the ball just as hard as Serena, which was quite rare back in the day.
I sincerely hope this comeback is a serious one, I hope this win makes her realise she still has the passion and the talent to get back where she belongs.
(Ditto Venus)
Well Done Serena

Absolute tennis icon, Serena is :D
I watched the match, Serena was down and seemingly out at 1-6 3-5 down. She was 3 points from defeat at 0-15 in that game. Petrova was serving so well and moving Serena around the court. Then suddenly, Serena just completely unleashed. The turning point her backhand winner at 5-4 15-15, i just knew she wasnt going to lose then :D
I dont care what anyone says, Serena had that 2002 look in her eye today. When she wants it, she's going to get it, simple as. Serena you have just solidified yourself as an Aussie Open contender :ok:

Jankovic will make her look like a silly little girl. I dont want serena to win because if she does she wont work harder. The girl is hugggggggge, cant anyone see it. if she gets whooped silly, she will work harder and stop being a tourist in tennis.

Serena may not be in tip top condition, but when it came to it, she had the character and skill to come through whereas Petrova didn't.

I'm so glad that I stayed up to watch this :D
Nadia was excellent in the opening set - she was bossing the points and served extremely well, finishing it off with 3 aces. At 4-5 in the second set you could just sense that Serena was going to produce something special, and she did exactly that. The intensity and desire that she showed today was amazing, and that proved to be decisive.
Well done Serena :yahoo:

Serena is a better player than Petrova. What's the big deal. She has a-one shots. She just needs to lose some weight so she can move around more easily.

Jelena is probably playing top 3 tennis just now so if Serena can beat her then sure she has a shot at winning the whole thing!

Yeah whoever wins will most likely have Sveta in the quarters, who is a long way of her best!

this sounds like the title of one of them troll threads
anyway I'm pleased Serena won, coz Petrova is boring, and we need some enjoyable players in the tournament (I just got moaned at for calling petrova rubbish, lol)
I still reckon Jankovic will beat Serena though
chokapova - January 19, 2007 09:06 PM (GMT)
To be honest I don't mind who wins as long as it's not Maria

I wouldn't call 6-3 a mauling, SW.
However, winning 10 of the last 13 games would make a more convincing case, surely??

Well I didn't specify if the entire match was a mauling in my thread title or a certain part afterall, so it depends on how you choose to read it; and yes 10 of the last 13 games is a mauling :D (Which is what I was referring to)
And of course I was being dramatic for effect
