Title: Serena vs Nadia

SerenaW19 - January 17, 2007 11:51 AM (GMT)
Say by what score and why you think the person you've chosen will win.

Im just about to watch the match so won't comment yet; but I think it will hopefully be close either way. Both will need to serve well.

Erm................. I've been a bit bold with predicting Serena wins in the past, dont want to jinx her  roflmao

Still i think SErena will pull this out in 3 sets. Although Serena isnt moving at her peak best, she's still moving better than Petrova imo. Serena has to try and put a bit more angle on her groundstrokes, and get petrova out of position. Serena has to play this match in a more tactical fashion, i cant see Serena just attempting to rally with Petrova all day and it paying off that succesfully. Depth and width are needed for serena against Petrova. Also Serena needs to serve well. She has a fantastic second serve, but on this slower surface, can look a bit loopy-ish with the spin she puts on it. Petrova as we know, likes to target mid-court balls.

Still i hope and pray Serena wins this

Federer-Williams - January 17, 2007 12:05 PM (GMT)
I agree with dl. Serena to win for me but I'm not thoroughly convinced by either.

chairman - January 17, 2007 12:08 PM (GMT)
Are you lot kidding yesterday Serena couldnt even move her lard ass. Potrova in 2 bread sticks.

T01 - January 17, 2007 12:08 PM (GMT)
I was really upset to see this in the draw. I wanted both to do well at this open, as it is about time Nadia shown that she is a worthy top10 by performing well at slams. But it is the comeback attempt for Serena and I wanted her to do well as well. Pity one of them will go out. I guess Nadia will win this one.

Dark_Necrofear - January 17, 2007 12:36 PM (GMT)
When Serena Stuns the world and Nadia I want to read the comments on here!

shaughno - January 17, 2007 01:18 PM (GMT)
I like them both but I'll be rooting for Serena to win!

SerenaW19 - January 17, 2007 02:22 PM (GMT)
Well I thought Serena's movement was actually quite good in last night's match. Her shot selection was excellent at times also. Biggest problems, still very rusty and her serve isn't clicking enough yet either.

Hopefully she can fix these when she plays Nadia. I say Serena in three.

vivahate - January 17, 2007 02:23 PM (GMT)
serena in 3.

Russiafan - January 17, 2007 03:03 PM (GMT)
I voted Nadia (surprise surprise) but it could go either way. Nadia may still have a niggling injury whilst Serena is still very rusty...then again Serena was rusty in 2005 and look what happened then. It really depends who is serving well on the day

9mmSuzi - January 17, 2007 03:16 PM (GMT)
I do agree with russiafan...for once..I am finding it extremely difficult to muster up the courage to go for Serena.... I do like her shot making decisions...and I believe she will raise her game for Petrova ...most champions tend to...

But, her shot making aside, if there is no punch or venom to :( it...against Nadia it will be way useless... much like hingis....you should be clever but if you dont add some sting to the cleverness you will out think yourself in the australian heat.

So...I am not good with set predictions....I will be very glad and pleased if serena comes through...but I know it will certainly be on the wing of a prayer. ....

I will be saying them nonetheless...but I hope I dont end up all :phew: in a cold sweat after that game just to see Serena win....

Nadia on the other hand , has nothing to lose and everything to gain.... short of a heat stroke she will try to pull something out of her bag...though unimpressive it may be it will still be something....

Come on. It would hardly be a shocker for a champion like Serena to win this match. I'm not sure that she'll win, but if she does, it's not likely to stun the world

Federer-Williams - January 17, 2007 04:33 PM (GMT)
I agree Nick. If she wins the whole thing beating Nadia, Jelena, kuznetsova, Momo and Sharapova/Kim they will still not be amazed. she done it before theyll say.

I am just hoping she goes quite deep to get some decent points to start on.

And its not as though Serena doesnt expect herself to win these matches. She's such a ruthless competitor, she wants this title badly

I totally agree :)

Serena should aim to try and hit some flat angles out to the Petrova forehand; we all know that it's the Russian's weaker wing, and if she gets it back she's completely out of position for the next shot. And as you say dl, Serena must serve well if she is to get the win.

Go Serena! :yahoo:

ObL!v!0N - January 17, 2007 08:33 PM (GMT)
tough one, Petrova's had a good start here, and Serena's struggled a bit against Kremer, and she hasn't really convinced me against the better players recently. I think it will be a close encounter, 3 sets, I think Petrova will win actually, 6-4 3-6 7-5. I hope Serena wins though, as Petrova is boring

I feel for those who have to watch KIm, first of all play and then milk her retirement in the press-conference. Spectators and journalists are really suffering  roflmao

Obliv, i'd take Hingis over Kim in an instant :ok:

The Dav - January 17, 2007 08:55 PM (GMT)
I'd rather watch neither thanks roflmao Hingis is playing someone I've never heard of, so both matches will probably be 6-1 6-1 snoozefests  roflmao
