chetanpv - January 17, 2007 12:45 AM (GMT)
First blood to Djoko. breaks for 4-2.
Wise_Analyst - January 17, 2007 12:54 AM (GMT)
Hi chet, Djokovic in awesome form so far this tournament, he takes the first set 6-2. Federer won't be liking the idea of playing him in the 4th round.
chetanpv - January 17, 2007 12:58 AM (GMT)
Yes Wise.
Today is Federer's last easy match although Bjorkman may give him some trouble. Even before Djoko, Youzhny has all the weapons to cause an upset.
But Federer will be keeping one eye on Djoko for sure.

Put it this way federer is going to regret calling Djokovic a joker after that davis cup match.
Wise_Analyst - January 17, 2007 01:17 AM (GMT)
Njole breaks for a 4-2 lead in the 2nd set. He's brushing past esteemed opponents with ease right now.

Djoko has this one in the bag...
Am shifting to the Federer bjorkman match..

I've never yet had the impression that Federer doesn't like facing tough opponents. I don't think he'll be losing sleep over Novak.
In any case, while 'Djokeovic' certainly has a good game, I'm not sure I see him taking three sets off Federer --- as I recall, he didn't even win one set at the DC.
Don't get me wrong, I hope he gives Roger a good run for his money if/when they meet, and also Youzhny is a tough cookie. However, they would have to play incredible *and* Fed would have to have an off day to lose to either of them, and he hasn't had many of those lately.
But anyway, I don't want to jinx him. Here's my take on the matter: if someone other than Fed wants to win the AO this year, they should have to do it the hard way; i.e., taking Fed down on the way. The worst thing to me would be if Fed loses early on in the slam and the person who takes him out then gets knocked out in the next round. That way, it would somehow feel as though the eventual winner 'got lucky' that someone else took him out, which isn't really how it should go. If anyone takes out Fed, it should be someone who has a chance to go on to win the title. I don't see Djokovic or Youzhny doing that.
Of course it's all idle talk, que sera, sera ... at the end of the day, well done to anyone who can win a Grand Slam title.
Meanwhile, Novak is enroute to winning the second set, and I should be heading to bed. Early start tomorrow ... yawn ...

Chet, are you watching these matches online? If yes, where?
I think I'll have to head to bed now, but perhaps I'll be able to catch some matches another day, so best to be ready ... :)

no..just following the scoreboard on ausopen.org
Eurosport is showing live streaming but cant watch it if you are in the US. As usual, ESPN's feature matches today are Roddick's and Serena's so the tennis is not being telecast now.

Oh, Eurosport is doing that again! I bought their service during the USO. Unfortunately, I won't be able to follow that many matches this time, but considering it's less than 4 quid, it might be worth signing up anyway.
I just checked and saw that the GD-sports channel on SopCast is also showing the AO at the moment, so you might want to give that a try if you're interested in streaming.

Jedi, I sense you don't like Djokovic - howcome?
He fights off a break point to go 6-5 ahead in the 2nd set.

I don't really have a particular like or dislike for Djokovic. To be honest, I haven't seen that much of him playing; based on what I've seen, he's good, but maybe he does get a little bit over-hyped at times.
I just don't see him winning against Federer in a five-setter
Of course I may be proved wrong, but I think Roddick and Nadal, and even Blake and Murray, are likely to be a greater threat to Federer than, say, Djokovic or Gasquet. Baghdatis might give him a good game on his day --- hope that match happens.
mightyjeditribble - January 17, 2007 02:00 AM (GMT)
PS As you'll notice, I haven't gone to bed yet, but rather succumbed to the temptation of watching the first few games of Fed v Bjorkman on the Eurosport feed.
I really like Jonas, but I'm afraid Fed has too much in the tank for him. I hope he does well in doubles again, however!

thanks for the link jedi..
watching a live stream now of the federer match. at least the internet speeds are super fast in the US, much better than the sport networks.
chetanpv - January 17, 2007 02:19 AM (GMT)
Djoko sounds warning to Federer. Ominous performance.
SerenaW19 - January 17, 2007 02:28 AM (GMT)
Yep nice and quick, now hopefully Nadia can be even quicker so we get to see Serena :D
