Title: Murray vs Martin
Andy1073 - January 16, 2007 09:46 AM (GMT)
Murray away like a train, and Martin all over the place.
Murray races out to lead 5-0 (double break)

Yes I am watching it whilst working. :o Martin is very out of sorts in this first set.
Andy1073 - January 16, 2007 09:49 AM (GMT)
After a long 6th game, Murray finally breaks again and Martin is feasting on bagel at the change of ends.
Murray 6-0
Andy1073 - January 16, 2007 09:56 AM (GMT)
More of the same as Murray breaks again in the second game of the second set.
Murray serving at 6-0 2-0
petalp - January 16, 2007 09:57 AM (GMT)
Yes, Murray is playing well, but even with that in mind, Martin is having a bit of a shocker as well..
Will be a very short match at this rate!

I cant believe Murray is playing this good. A 1st set bagel?

If Martin doesn't get his act together very quickly then a second helping of bagel might just be his.
Murray 6-0 4-0

I've been watching this but was in danger of falling asleep!
tlimvvo2max - January 16, 2007 10:10 AM (GMT)
Still plenty of time for a Typical British Wobble (though Tim holds the patent).
But with Martin playing like a three-legged dachshund it probably won't matter.
drakey01 - January 16, 2007 10:10 AM (GMT)
Andy1073 - January 16, 2007 10:12 AM (GMT)
The slaughter continues
Murray 6-0 6-0
Martin has won only 20 points in 2 sets - and 6 or 7 of those must have come in a single game in the first set.

How do Spaniards eat their bagels?
j2dhh - January 16, 2007 10:13 AM (GMT)
2 sets bagel already :o  . Are we looking at a would be 3 sets bagel here? Has this ever happened or is history about to be made?
tlimvvo2max - January 16, 2007 10:16 AM (GMT)
Edberg triple bagelled someone at Wimbledon in the 80s (another Swede I think)
It's incredibly rare though.

dunno, but this one's having a hefty dose of Scotch with his :P *
*I know, I know north of the border folks are Scottish, but that destroys the pun :D
petalp - January 16, 2007 10:25 AM (GMT)
6-0, 6-0, 4-0 :o
Unsurprisingly Martin's game is unravelling even further. Lots of UE's gifted to Murray.
Handy short match for Murray though.

He'll be disappointed if he *doesn't* do it now!
tlimvvo2max - January 16, 2007 10:26 AM (GMT)
Shucks, move from TV to computer and you're out of date. Sorry.
Lex - January 16, 2007 10:27 AM (GMT)
Rats! The AO live scoreboard has frozen on 3-0 (and the radio's crap today!)
Looking at the stats, Andy's won 85% of his first serves against 37% for Martin! He's only made 15 unforced errors too as opposed to 41 from Martin!
Update - the scoreboard's back :D
Andy1073 - January 16, 2007 10:28 AM (GMT)
6-0 6-0 5-0
Come on Andy - one more break for a little bit of history!

Hmm.. Murray receiving for the match.. time for him not to bottle it now! roflmao
j2dhh - January 16, 2007 10:30 AM (GMT)
Martin is yet to win a game in this match. Is it likely he can do that? Though I'm not watching the match, I'm all in awe of Murray so far.
petalp - January 16, 2007 10:31 AM (GMT)
3 non-break points for Martin.. 40-0
j2dhh - January 16, 2007 10:31 AM (GMT)
Go Andy! A donut is within reach, you can do it!
petalp - January 16, 2007 10:32 AM (GMT)
Martin stuns Murray for a historic hold.. 5-1..

tlimvvo2max - January 16, 2007 10:37 AM (GMT)
Think Brad'll tell him off for not winning that game? ;)
Bizarre stat just came up on Eurosport: he actually had a worse first serve percentage than Martin!
Dinky Jo - January 16, 2007 10:38 AM (GMT)
Great win for Andy! Did anyone actually watch that match - was Andy playing incredibly well, or did Martin just suck?
oooh....anyone looking at the Davydenko game? he won the first set, but is now 5-3 down in the 2nd :o

No tripple bagel but it was a great effort from Andy :yahoo:  What a match!
tlimvvo2max - January 16, 2007 10:42 AM (GMT)
It was both - Murray was focussed and didn't miss much (12 out of 14 won at the net) and Martin was appalling - just came up as 43 unforced errors, which is going some in 19 games! Can't read too much into such a mismatch but at least it shouldn't have tired Andy out ;)

I saw the match.. :)
Murray played well, very solid tennis. It wasn't top drawer stuff but he didn't give a great deal away.
Martin started badly then it went downhill from there!
tlimvvo2max - January 16, 2007 10:44 AM (GMT)
First serve needs some work though - 47 per cent isn't going to be enough later on.

This was definitely one iffy area. Serve generally is ok, but percentage can often be quite low..

Should weak era come in here?:P
tlimvvo2max - January 16, 2007 10:54 AM (GMT)
Oh god, is that weak era thing STILL going on?
Just checked back in here after a winter hibernating on an athletics board... good to have tennis starting back up as well, but I don't intend to get drawn back into the old Five Live-type slanging.
Nice to be back anyway, but got to get to work now.
