Title: Roddick pulls out!!!
styeffo - May 24, 2006 12:24 PM (GMT)
Watching the team world cup(?) i think, and Andy pulled out having terrible trouble with his foot.
He had strapping, and a timeout then tried to play on....but you could see that he was so hampered, he sensibly retired!
Not good just before Wimbers!

what? All it does is add two different names to the list of people eliminated before the 3rd round.

I'm so upset about his ankle...luckily he has v.few points to defend at RG, but Queens is straight after! :(

I don't think they've officially withdrawn from RG yet though?

Bad news for Hewiit really, so close to Wimbledon. He's on a real downer, hope he gets back to his fighting self soon.

Hmmm. Don't know that this would really be much of a blow for Roddick - his serve doesn't hold up as well on clay, and he doesn't *really* have the movement to compensate. I think it's wise for him to skip RG, work on his serve (which seems to have gone to pot recently) since it's such a massive part of his game, and prepare himself for the grass season.
Hewitt, well for his style of tennis I really believe he's getting past it now. I don't see him winning another slam, least of all on clay. I guess it's also in his best interests to skip RG and focus on a good Wimbledon, although I would have preferred him to play; I always enjoy watching Hewitt's antics. He may not be the most agreeable player, but against a clay court specialist he is always comical - preferably he would have drawn Chela again!
