Title: Do you still miss the BBC?
SerenaW19 - January 6, 2007 06:05 PM (GMT)
Now the BBC board has been closed for a bit and even the most new members have established themselves on CC and got into things, I was wondering if anyone still genuinely misses the BBC?
I don't mean miss the good old times, of course everyone wishes it had stayed good. I mean does anyone wish the board hadn't been deleted and had stayed open the way it was when it closed...
I've got to say that the other day when I was browsing CC it wasn't until I came to the ressources forum and saw the link that I remembered the BBC had ever existed!

The Dav - January 6, 2007 06:06 PM (GMT)
Don't miss it at all :)
If it has closed a year earlier, my answer would have been different...
Gav - January 6, 2007 06:19 PM (GMT)
CC is miles better, it is a "proper" message board where you can put things in the right place and people can be moderated correctly.
Saying that, although I wasn't the most frequent of posters, and the trolls did irritate me considerably, good fun was had towards the end, so I do miss it a little.
liam_valid - January 6, 2007 06:21 PM (GMT)
I missed the BBC right until the end :( But CC has proved to be far better, and now i agree with Serena that half the time, i forget it even existed
Tenez - January 6, 2007 11:40 PM (GMT)
I don't miss it as much as in the begining and I must sayy CC is an excellent forum. Well done admin. I still miss the simplicity of the Beeb format (though the quoting is now better here) and will miss some guys that we have lost on the way to here ( PrettyVacant, 2005me, Ziggy, roober (spl? the guy who knew all about the ATP/WTA workings), etc...
Anyway, the Beeb is dead, Long live CC.
Lex - January 6, 2007 11:51 PM (GMT)
I went off the beeb when they started pulling the plug on the best used threads
Heyupp and Bored! Bored! Bored! (motorsport board for the uninitiated ;) )
Once they closed those down and started becoming more and more pedantic it was the time to leave.
Centre Court is a great Forum with some excellent people and Nick and his team do a great job.
The motorsport equivalent HPL was hacked and destroyed by someone, but The Pit Lane is being resurrected and their Admin team are doing a sound job!
Do I miss the beeb? Like Dav, if you asked a year ago, my answer would have been very different.
I am glad the beeb was there, I'm lucky to have met some very good friends there, but do I miss it now?
Nope
Big Al - January 7, 2007 12:28 AM (GMT)
No, I dont miss the Beeb now at all, except for the fact that (as Tenez said) a few great posters seem to have been lost :(
This board is much better anyway and long may it continue. :D
Ace - January 7, 2007 12:56 AM (GMT)
I never really posted but sometimes to read the nonsense the trolls were posting was pretty funny to me.
Alison2006 - January 7, 2007 01:27 AM (GMT)
I must admit I miss the BBC Board because it had Freedom of speech, but I don't miss the silly and quite childish abuse it brought (just because someone did not agree with another), oh and the Grammar lesson it brought (who cares how one spells or how it it put), as long as you can understand it......
Shakespearesthebestattennis - January 7, 2007 11:03 AM (GMT)
I miss it and always will.
The MTF is a great tennis forum, but there was something special about the BBC...

PV is still about hun, though, very, very rarely due to working all the hours God sends, but I can tell you he loved watching Fed clean up last year ;)
I kinda miss the beeb - but I think thats cause I remember the days of old, as I hardly posted at the end. Like Lex said, once they started pulling the plug on the bigger threads and moderating waaaaaay over the top, it all got a bit annoying and watching it go wasnt a problem. I made some good cyber chums on there though and am still in touch with most - so cant grumble.
And this place aint so bad ;)
Tenez - January 7, 2007 11:30 AM (GMT)
Cheers Peb - A great poster PV and a great tennis player from what I gathered. He probably would not know who I am as I posted under Federerexpress the last time I traded views with him. Actually busy as he is he probably would not remember Federerexpress either. ;)

I'm sure he would hun - the guy remembers loads! I dont know if he looks in at CC but will pass on your hellos to him. Tell him to look in here if he gets five mins - at the mo, I think he only visits KoC.
Tenez - January 7, 2007 05:34 PM (GMT)
Hi Peb - I just checked there and it looks his last post there dates from 7/7.......fortunately 2006 and not 2005 which gives us hope that he is still around. ;)
vivahate - January 7, 2007 06:53 PM (GMT)
the Beeb was garbage towards the end, so no i don't really miss it. but it was the 1st tennis forum i ever posted at. memories... :)
Dinky Jo - January 7, 2007 07:28 PM (GMT)
I so rarely posted on the BBC, i just read it really, so i don't miss it at all and enjoy being a member of CC loads more than being a member of the BBC boards.
Murraynator - January 7, 2007 07:45 PM (GMT)
I miss the bbc to a degree but that was until i joined cc which contains some great discussion and also some very nice posters. :D
Nick Havoc - January 7, 2007 10:18 PM (GMT)
I miss it a bit. The thing it had, that I don't have here, is a major platform for new people to be introduced to the board. It's not as easy for new fans to stumble upon this site.
Dark_Necrofear - January 8, 2007 09:51 AM (GMT)
I will always miss it as it was my first time that I engaged tennis debating and that was my platform.I have however come to love CC and enjoy the freedom of speech and you can be expressive verbally. The debates are great and the format, functions are amazing. The 3 minute rule at BBC was what signalled the end of that board.
I will miss it but I have made home on CC...CC just needs to liven up abit with more people!
SerenaW19 - January 8, 2007 10:34 AM (GMT)
I'd forgotten about the 3 minute rule, that really was annoying.
ObL!v!0N - January 8, 2007 10:35 AM (GMT)
I miss it for the fact that I used to post on all different boards, but there are silly trolls where ever you go on there, especially the 606 football forum, that's all that I use on the 606 board these days
Dark_Necrofear - January 8, 2007 10:39 AM (GMT)
I paid BBC a visit the other day, correction 606 and low and behold,mediter,wise_anal and the usual idiots are doing the usual there with ever faithful hero tryin to counter them. Its a pure joke that 6 rubbish 6.
SerenaW19 - January 8, 2007 12:23 PM (GMT)
Why does hero even bother? Doesn't he realise no-one cares anymore. They're obviously just there for a laugh.
ObL!v!0N - January 8, 2007 12:28 PM (GMT)
you don't know the meaning of the word 'troll' on that board, until you meet a guy called 'spenk me!'
Scotsguy - January 8, 2007 12:32 PM (GMT)
I still post sometimes on the new board but it's really awkward because you cant see when a new post has been made, also it basically centers around ANdy Murray and Federer which gets a little dull
SerenaW19 - January 8, 2007 12:33 PM (GMT)
The WTA talk completely disappeared from that board in the last few months and it's as good as non-existent on 606.
Dark_Necrofear - January 8, 2007 12:43 PM (GMT)
And what makes it worse, the stupid manager posts the articles that are on the tennis site on the board.Such kuk.
As for Hero,he enjoys rebutting them but its true that no one bothers. There is also no WTA talk, which is shocking. That board is crap!
chairman - January 8, 2007 03:55 PM (GMT)
How is the 606 board going people?

stubborn stepanek to stun federer by magic81 09 January 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
extensive and flawless factual analysis points out that radek stepanek will beat roger federer in straight sets. feel free to earn some money from it. |
Chairman and the rest of CC.This is how 606 is going.Still the same kuk.Just a small sample though, believe me it was worse.Let me find a post of an alter ego praising kuk like this!

Superb post as per usual Magic. Stepanek plays serve and volley and we all know how Federer hates playing against that.
6-4, 7-6 victory for the cheerful czech. |
Heres the ususal that follows. You see guys, coz they cant do it here all the time they dont bother!

A chilling warning to Federer by 55mediter55 04 January 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
as Igor Kunitsyn just beat Lleyton Hewitt 4-6 7-6 6-4. Egoistical swiss Roger Federer must be absolutely gutted as talented Russian hits top gear just before Aussie Open

An outstanding post mediter. Kunitsyn's big serve and solid groundstrokes would leave the transitional number 1 floundering. If these two meet early in the Australian Open, I'd put money on a 7-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory for the big Ukrainian.

Yes, because Federer has had so much difficulty beating Lleyton these last few years, he's bound to be petrified by such a feat...
He'll also be dumbstruck by Kunitsyn's breathtaking haul of zero career singles titles in an 8 year career, and the fact that he's won a grand total of 16 main tour matches - ever! (that's one more than the total number Federer has lost in three years)
Wise - why do you persist in posting such drivel on this board, when you don't do it on Centre Court?

So is he Ukrainian or Russian then? Make up your mind.

Wise, the ATP website says you were correct first time: Kunitsyn is Russian. http://www.atptennis.com/5/en/players/play...search=kunitsyn

Hi all, To be honest (i.e. not leaving in the world of contradictions as your "friend" Wise & Co) I see only two Russian who might represent a danger for FED during the first rounds at the AO: Safin and Youzhny. A part from that the result is interesting because it shows that might be despite more training and preparation by Hewitt his time at the top is really gone..We will see at the AO: But it is likely that this would represent one of the last season for Hewitt, i.e. an interesting and good player but definitely not a great one.

Outstanding post 55mediter55. The transitional Swiss must be quaking in his boots at the prospect of facing the awesome Russian. I predict that the demise of Federer in 2007 will be as grisly as that of Saddam, metaphorically speaking of course.
A Happy New Year to you and all the knowledgeable members of the board.

andy, the reason wise only posts this drivel here is because he knows that centre court is properly moderated, rather than this board, which...isn't.

Perhaps mediter etc. struggle to post there is because they find it hard to break into the clique which is rife there?!!

Or perhaps it's because people know them to be witless trolls, with barely an original thought between them?
Wise at least makes an effort at reasoned debate over there - even if all it does is show up the fundamental dishonesty of his extreme ramblings here. |
And that is a classic post from the 606 trolls. Now we all know how its going there.Thank GOD for CC....Ooops and Nick! ;)
SerenaW19 - January 10, 2007 01:40 PM (GMT)
Despite this 8 people have said that they still miss it :o
Dark_Necrofear - January 10, 2007 01:44 PM (GMT)
Ay but it had its moments hey!But I cant handle that anymore!
liam_valid - January 10, 2007 04:15 PM (GMT)
Do you lot post on 606 then? Ive never been on. I go on wta world if there is nobody about on here, but 606 holds no interest for me at all
petalp - January 10, 2007 10:59 PM (GMT)
The only aspect that I miss about the beeb was the live scoring during the day, as I can't access the likes of CC at work.. can't access the ATP/ WTA sites either, for that matter
So during the AO, I think that is when I will wish it were still there.. but apart from that.. no, don't miss anything else of what it became in its last 8 months or so.. There's no point in having a board if it isn't moderated..
scolios - January 10, 2007 11:13 PM (GMT)
I miss it as it used to be, not as it was latterly. Petalp said it didn't function over the last eight months - I think that is a bit of an exaggeration, petalp. What I like about it was ease of access to a lot of threads. You could see at a glance what they were about and you could skim them quickly, too. Much though I love CC - and I do, and thank you, Nick, what would we do without you  - it does take longer to read through the various threads. Also, there was always someone around on the beeb, which isn't always the case here. However, admittedly the people who were around on the beeb weren't always those one wanted to talk to :D

Very true, the BBC never had an all nighter either :D
Me, Petalp, Dav and SB were on here til about 5 in the morning once. I have no idea what we talked about roflmao
