Ace - January 4, 2007 07:56 AM (GMT)
Not really.
England ended day three of the Sydney Test under severe pressure at 114-5 in their second innings, leading a buoyant Australia side by a mere 12 runs.
I said before the series they were gonna get whitewashed and It looks like It will be so.
Its Warne's and McGrath's last match. So Australia are gonna want to win more than ever.
Not out batsmen for England are KP on 29 and Monty Panesar who is yet to score.
I'm happy I'm not english right about know. :P

Canada has its own cricket team.. here is them practising for the last world cup!!

They did rather well in it too, if memory serves correctly.. playing on grass rather than snow took some adjustment though ;)

Well yes, though in fairness the Aussies are being utterly ruthless.

Damn.....what I would give to see highlights of this.

England all out for 147 - Australia need 46 runs to win.

And Australia win by 10 wickets. Hayden lofted Mahmood for a six to bring the scores level. And then just a straightforward single to secure a deserved 5-0 whitewash.
Australia will love this. Langer was there at the end to finish his career in a memorable way. Warne and McGrath were bowling in tandem to finish off the England innings.
Also, sweet revenge for them after their unexpected loss of the Ashes in 2005.
Congratulations to Australia! :ok:
As for England? Well, I am actually surprised that they lost 5-0. They should never have lost at Adelaide, for starters, but test matches can just turn quickly like that even when played over 5 days.
I did expect them to be defeated though, just not in all 5 matches. The players and the mangement will come under criticism for level aspects that prevented them from performing to their best ability. And this cricitism will be justified.
However, any criticism borne out of an expectation that England would retain the Ashes will be uncalled for. England were going into the lair of the wounded tiger and national pride was at stake here.
And my issue is if peoples' expectations were too high then why? Ok England won the ashes last year, but anyone with any nouce knew that Australia would raise their game and in all probability win them back. I can't understand the inflated expectations that sometimes go with the major sports, and I wonder how many times the national teams will get their collective noses rubbed in it before they learn.
I mean, usually cricket is immune from this as England usually get thrashed by Australia, but the moment that a victory comes along then the banddwagon jumpers arrive. It baffles me, and I wish that it didn't happen.
Well hopefully the fair weather suppporters will go and focus their attention onto the next big thing, and those whose enthusiasm for the game was fired by 2005 ashes who do wish to stick around, do so with a sense of perspective and not get carried away by excessive expectation/ dsiappointment.
What next though? I think that the WIndies will tour England in early summer, and then India for most of the summer. Can't wait for another England v India series!! If it's anything like 2002 (when Vaughan and Dravid  ruled!!) then it should be one to savour :ok:
