Hopefully that half-season slump is behind him now, it was so frustrating seeing him lose to Berdych etc  roflmao

We've stil got boring Ivan in the mix though, i hope someone takes him out

Yes, my scathing has begun in 07 roflmao

good on gasquet. opens his round-robing campaign with a win. to win adelaide at the start of the season would be sweet

and sorry, but 2007 brings more solid yet uninspired results from ljubicic and davydenko. i just can't get into either of the these players...

RafaRoastLamb - January 2, 2007 06:58 PM (GMT)
I was surreptitiously keeping an eye on the live scoring at work earlier and nearly screamed the place down when Nalby lost his match!!! Wow! What happened there I wonder? Also I was having kittens watching the Murray brothers lose their first set at Doha. Luckily they pulled through. Can't wait for tomorrow!

There's no way Nadal will win Chennai.... Karlovic is in the draw (and he's in the 2nd round too! )

Hmm I've never actually seen this Karlovic in action but have heard of his incredible serve?

Is he really a genuine threat to Nadal though?

Oh certainly.... especially on this surface!.... With Nalbandian out of the way thanks to that very pless-ant danish man, ivo should comfortably make the final now.

vivahate - January 4, 2007 02:03 PM (GMT)
some pretty decent quarters at doha...

(1)N Davydenko (RUS) vs O Rochus (BEL)
(5)M Youzhny (RUS) vs (2)I Ljubicic (CRO)
(6)R Soderling (SWE) vs (3)M Baghdatis (CYP)
(4)A Murray (GBR) vs M Mirnyi (BLR)

Dinky Jo - January 4, 2007 03:48 PM (GMT)
Ljubcic beat Youzhny, after a good start from youzhny - winning 2-6, 7-6, 7-6.

Baggy is playing soderling now. Come on Marcos!!!!

Dinky Jo - January 4, 2007 04:15 PM (GMT)
Just a quick argh!!!! moment, 'cos Marcos is down a break in the first set to Soderling.

welshboy91 - January 4, 2007 04:47 PM (GMT)

Nadal beats Sanguinetti 6-3, 6-2

Scotsguy - January 5, 2007 03:57 PM (GMT)
Ljubicic is struggling a bit against Soderling he's trailing 3-6 4-4

vivahate - January 5, 2007 04:01 PM (GMT)
i wouldn't mind seeing soderling pull this one out.

Scotsguy - January 5, 2007 04:07 PM (GMT)
Having said that Ljubo's just taken the second set 6-4....

Scotsguy - January 5, 2007 04:23 PM (GMT)
Soderling is a break up in the third set serving at 3-2

 Ljubicic beats Soderling 7-6 (5) in the final set dsespite being a break down

Please Murray, beat Davydenko, a Ljubicic vs Davydenko final in the first tournament of the season would quite possibly result in a suicide attempt from myself.

yorkshire - January 5, 2007 05:39 PM (GMT)
Come on Davydenko ;)

Wise_Analyst - January 5, 2007 06:44 PM (GMT)
:phew: Murray wins 7-5, 6-2, saving me from an untimely demise.

mightyjeditribble - January 5, 2007 07:30 PM (GMT)
Well done Andy! :yahoo:

Sounds like Davydenko had some injury problems --- nonetheless, a good win for the young Scot! As I recall, he beat Ljubicic last year; can he do it again to take the title?

No matter what the result in the final, a good start to the season for Murray, without a doubt!

Dinky Jo - January 6, 2007 12:27 PM (GMT)
Anyone following Chennai? Nadal is a break down to Malisse in the first set, with Malisse serving at 5-4

Dinky Jo - January 6, 2007 12:35 PM (GMT)
Nadal loses the first set :o

ATP mod is now going to have to go and get a train to london  Why couldn't my dad have a birthday when Nadal isn't losing......

An interesting point Jo..

Maybe if it had been James Blake playing then your Dad might have viewed things differently ;)

Oh, train beckons.. have fun!

petalp - January 6, 2007 12:50 PM (GMT)
*takes 'live update' baton from dinky jo*

Both Malisse and Nadal hold their first serves in the second set, albeit not convincingly by either..

6-4, 1-1

Scotsguy - January 6, 2007 01:28 PM (GMT)
Sorry Dinky Jo but Come on malisse!!

Big Al - January 6, 2007 01:29 PM (GMT)

You're right Al.. and Nick H has started a thread for this match..

Probably best to use that one..

Shakespearesthebestattennis - January 6, 2007 02:12 PM (GMT)
I'm so happy that Malisse won.
He plays such revetting tennis, it's no wonder that he is one of my favourite players :)

RafaRoastLamb - January 6, 2007 02:21 PM (GMT)
BOO HOO!!!!

Rafa lost.

But...there's still hope in the doubles.

I hope Moya squashes Stefan and bagels Malisse in the final.

Wise_Analyst - January 6, 2007 05:04 PM (GMT)
 And Ivan Ljubicic, possibly the most ridiculous player ever to be ranked at 3 in the rankings, wins the first tournament of the season. Could it possibly get off to a more inauspicious start?

Good run from Murray, but he's got to be annoyed at not winning this. If you're gonna amount to anything, you simply can't be losing to players like Ljubicic, especially when by all accounts you deserved to win. My dislike of this joke of a player is so great that he makes me appreciate Federer.

vivahate - January 6, 2007 05:08 PM (GMT)
for me, ljubicic plays uninspiring tennis.

Rafa

dl04 - January 6, 2007 07:18 PM (GMT)
Another straights sets loss for Nadal  :(

He best pick it up for OZ, we cant have Fed favourite after winning a couple of rounds  roflmao
