Title: James Blake
Description: Chances for the clay season?
Nick Havoc - May 1, 2006 06:02 PM (GMT)
I think Blake is scheduled to be back in action in Rome. Does anyone fancy his chances of making a splash in the clay court season? He certainly started the year off well on hard courts, before hitting a bit of a skid in Davis Cup and in Houston.

Hope to see him do well where-ever he plays... I guess it depends on who he comes up against...

Not sure why but no, I don't see him doing so well. I am wondering if the USo was a high for him and Ginepri, and feel that they are not gonna repeat that success this year.

Well, he seems to be on a bit of a run in Hamburg. OK, it's not exactly Federer and Nadal he's facing, but Moya, Murray and Ancic in succession is not too bad. Let's see if he can keep going.
(Although the Ancic match is not over yet, so I shouldn't get ahead of myself. But Blake is serving for the match as I write this.)

I like James and hope that given his run of bad luck he can get a good head of steam behind him

Oh dear Nick what went wrong ? I heard he was serving for the match twice.
Dare I say I think Blake is overated? IMO he is

I don't think so, because I don't think he's really all that highly rated. (Unless by overrated, you're talking about his ranking. But that's just based on results.) I think a lot of people admire him for coming through all the tough times and getting back near the top, though.
I think he's a class guy, a good player, and he's a fellow American, so I cheer him on. I wasn't expecting any great things from him in the clay court season, so just making it past Moya in the first round was pretty good.

chances for the clay season ... non-existent

Still think that, WB? He was pretty impressive against Almagro. If he plays as well next round, he should beat Monfils.
