Title: The Bad and the Ugly
Description: The films you wish you never saw
Dinky Jo - December 11, 2006 05:12 PM (GMT)
Hi guys,
This is a thread for all those films that you would suggest should be buried somewhere deep in the vaults of time and never seen again.
The horror films that weren't scary....
The romance films that just weren't romantic....or even worse, too romantic.....
The disaster movies that were...well, just that really....
Those films that were just supposed to be good and then just weren't.
So go for it, rip in to the bad acting, the bad directing, and those one liners as cheesy as cheddar..... roflmao

I'll start this off with that awful awful film that is "Freddy got fingered"
It's almost impossible to describe just how bad this film is....as far as i'm concerned it's not funny, it's got an appalling storyline, and as for the actors.....well, they didn't really do much acting. It's just awful.....

I know these two films are considered by some to be masterpieces but I'm afraid they bored me rigid:
'Ran'-IMO a memorably dull film
'Crash'-too wierd for my taste, overly pretentious and arty.

One which was hyped no end and just did very little for me:
Da Vinci Code
Just urgh......

Two horror movies I saw recently ... "Wolf Creek" and "The Hills have Eyes" remake. Mind numbingly dull, both of them.

I saw Wolf Creek, it is quite acclaimed I hear. I knwo what you mean though. I dont; think it was terribel BUt I got the feelign I'd seen it al before - despite criticism the orginal Chainsaw Massacre ha sinspired a huge batch fo these kind of movies where a backward redneck type stalks and sadistically kilss a group of naive kids. I thought some of ti was a bit sick. I dotn; know how good it was really, as I thought it was a bit copycat (Caibin Fever was too) My partner thought it was good though and he loves Chainsaw.
I HATE Titanic. Rubbish. Originals capture the scene better, this film was just a waste of money and a load of cheese.
I HATE Moulin Rouge. All the songs were just badly sung pop songs, and i dont; call that a musical. I love musicals too.

I see mostly family / children's movies in the last few years (for some reason  ).
I think one of the worst so far has been "The Wild." It was an animated film about some animals from the NYC Zoo, who end up, through a series of events, on a volcanic island. It's sort of a very similar basic idea to another animated film, "Madagascar", but not nearly as well done. And it has a really bizarre plotline, in which the herd of wildebeests on the island are plotting to sacrifice and eat a lion, so they can become top of the food chain. I thought that one was pretty awful.

I totally agree!
Although I like the music. James Horner is a genius.

I saw some of that on a plane - awful
But I thought it was Madagascar

I saw this film - which I believe was called 'The Hand' with Michael Caine in - bloody awful! Put me right off Michael Caine and took quite a few viewings of 'you're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off' to make me like him again.
Never, NEVER watch this film.

The only movie I ever walked out of the theatre on was Harlem Nights. Apparently, a lot of people liked this movie, but I think it was supposed to be a comedy, but it just didn't seem funny. It was just full of a lot of foul language that didn't seem to serve any purpose. I'm not one to be immediately shocked by foul language in a film, but when it appears to have no purpose other than the shock value of how foul it is, I don't like that.
So we walked out of that movie and instead went in to see "All Dogs Go to Heaven." roflmao OK, that one didn't win any Oscars, but at least it was non-offensive. The theatre usher we spoke to on the way out of the first movie more or less said, "What did you expect from an Eddie Murphy movie . . ." But Murphy had been making more light-hearted comedies like "The Golden Child", "Beverly Hills Cop" and "Coming to America." That's what we were expecting . . .

Some of Eddie Murphy's recent movies have been really terrible - the 2 Nutty professor movies, the 2 Dr. Dolittle movies, Holy Man, Metro.
I think he does best when teamed up with someone else. Showtime (with Robert De Niro) and I Spy (with Owen Wilson) were both OK, not great but not bad either. And he teamed up with Steve Martin to make Bowfinger which is IMO the best movie he has ever made, absolutely hilarious !! (IMDB link :

a sphincter-clenchingly bad film in my view is 'The Avengers' remake with Ralph Fienes
Truly awful...

or how about the cute-kid films?
Curly Sue being a prime example

Don't read the book, it's not as bad as the film but it's close, Dan Brown-well done on having an interesting idea for a book, not so well done on it being only narrative the whole way through and no description....
As for awful films-Bewitched-this was dire, Nicole Kidman cannot do comedy and will ferrel seems disintereted throughout the whole story....
The ring (hollywood version)-I know a lot of people were terrified by this movie but i sat through it and found it mind-numbingly dull, it's just not scary and that's coming from someone who got scared by the hyenas in the Lion King roflmao
Dinky Jo - January 8, 2007 01:13 PM (GMT)
My housemate and i sat through a film called She's the Man the other day!!!! It's *based* (kind of.....) on the Shakespeare play Twelfth Night, but oh my god it's awful. I mean, it was kinda so bad it was funny at points, with my housemate and i in hysterics at some of it! And, to top it all off, it has Vinnie Jones in it - as a football coach.....
Lex - January 8, 2007 01:28 PM (GMT)
I think all of the gender/age swap films have reached their sell by date now. The first ones were funny (most notably Steve Martin in All of Me
imdb ref) but how often can they re-vamp the same jokes and situations..

Harlem Nights - I was trying to think what that film was called - thanks for saying it. I went to the cinema to see that years back and it was truly dire as you say. I really dont; liek Eddie Murphy much but that flm was a waste of space.
