From the Shawshank Redemption to

to Thelma and Louise ;)

And any other misc.

Discuss them here :D

The film shattered Glass in my opinion is amazing! It's got Hayden Christiansen in it, and he's very very good (much better than he was in Star Wars) and Peter Saasgard is also brilliant. it starts of slowly, but once it gets going it's great. Plus it's based on a true story, which possibly makes it all the better.

I'm not going to say much about it, simply because it gives away the whole point of the film, but it's well worth watching!

SerenaW19 - November 27, 2006 07:43 PM (GMT)
Good choice as ever Jo :ok:

I think To Kill a Mockingbird can go in here as well :D

By the way SB I created this thread just for you ;) So post in it!

Alrighty! roflmao

I wanted to mention One Flew Over the Cuckoos' Nest with Jack Nicholson.

I'd call it more than drama, it's quite harrowing in places and very poignant with a message. it is fantastic because hardly anyone ever looks at mental health issues in an enlightening and realistic way in movies - it's all psycho killers form hell! This was way ahead of it's time and it shoudl defintitely make peopel think twice abotu their prejudices and fears re" mental health. Nicholson and many other actors are great.

Actualyl Serena I've decided I want a hard -hitting category, thought provoking message movies! then this can go in it with Scum and Clockwork Orange :D The Brits are so good at those kidn fo movies, and maybe we need a Britsh Section as most fo the movies are American Hollywood stuff :D

SerenaW19 - November 29, 2006 01:20 AM (GMT)
Hmm - Well it is extreeme Drama but broadly speaking still Drama
And you could always put something Like Clockwork Orange in Horror...

Britflicks is a very good idea though...

SerenaW19 - November 29, 2006 12:12 PM (GMT)
Thought Fight Club could go in here, very good film :)

Well seeing as SB mentioned them, here's

Clockwork Orange.

Brilliant by Kubrick (isn't everything?), a chilling desconstruction of the human psyche, showing just how horrible not only the world can be, but people can be. As ever Kubricks mastery of camera angles makes it appear so real. Haven't read the book, anyone like to comment on whether it's as good as/better than the film?

It's actually probably my least favourite Kubrick of all the ones I've seen nevertheless, it's a gem :ok:

SerenaW19 - November 30, 2006 07:46 PM (GMT)
Thought Id put some new films in here seeing as Drama is the first topic for LCA :D

Drama is a pretty broad category so you're all good with this :)

Some other favs of mine that aren't in here (but are probably in other sections)

Citizen Kane
The Godfather
Schindler's List :(
12 Angry Men
American Beauty
Leon
And bascially any of the Hitchcocks....

timmadigan - November 30, 2006 08:55 PM (GMT)
Drama is a huge range - but...

12 Angry Men is one of my top 10 movies of all times.

Pebs - November 30, 2006 09:50 PM (GMT)

was just having hard time thinking about what to go for and then had idea of Leon and then just spotted you had put it in here SW19! Will re think now.

I did think of Henry - Portrait of a Serial Killer, but thought that might be a bit too dark... good film though.

SerenaW19 - December 1, 2006 01:51 AM (GMT)
You can still use it though Pebs. That was why I posted it :)

By the way Tim excellent choice of 12 Angry Men :D, I can just watch it over and over :)

Are TV series allowed?Three of my favourites were:

Our Friends in the North-starring two great actors, Christopher Eccleston and Daniel Craig amongst others.

Cold Feet

This Life.

BTW,Serena ,I agree that 'Leon' was amazing-violent but original,well-acted and incredibly moving.

Dinky Jo - December 27, 2006 01:06 PM (GMT)
Not sure if this goes in here, but seems the most appropriate category.

V for Vendetta.

One of the bets films i've seen in years - the ending is just superb, and all the actors involved are great. I persuaded a mate of mine to come and see it with me, and he was very sceptical to start with, but was ended up being most impressed by the whole movie.

Lex - December 27, 2006 04:12 PM (GMT)
I love watching 'A Few Good Men'

Jack is just superb!

'You fücking people, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall'

great stuff!

My faves are:

24 and Spooks B)

BIG-TODGER - March 4, 2007 11:46 PM (GMT)
Not entirely sure what constitutes 'drama' but half guessing the criteria i'ld say

REBECCA -daphne du maurier novel (think she's assumed to be a lesbian, which is interesting given the female relationships within her novels) great book and film keeps you in suspenders till the end!

AMERICAN BEAUTY not a Spacey fan but it's a great film kind of Lynch-esque in places, but with a much more meaningful conceptual construction

SUNSET BOULEVARD looking at the ones i've chosen i'm starting to conclude i may have the gay chromosome-but it's a knockout film noir classic, very stylish and camp in a monochrome deadly kind of a way.

TennisMenace - March 5, 2007 03:50 AM (GMT)
LA Confidential
The Usual Suspects
The Silence of the Lambs (horror/drama? Brilliant either way)
Pulp Fiction

Brakkus - August 3, 2007 05:35 AM (GMT)
