Title: Djokovic "Thinking Big"
Nick Havoc - December 4, 2006 02:57 PM (GMT)
Just interested in everyone's take on this article:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20061204/sp_nm/...s_djokovic_dc_2If I had to pick which of the current youngsters might be No. 1 some day, I don't think Djokovic would top the list for me, but you never know. At least he seems to have the ambition. Hopefully that's what all of them are dreaming about; being the best.

I cant see him as a no.1 once Fed starts to wane, i see Nadal, Baghdatis and Murray battling for number 1

It's great to see a young player showing the mental attitude that the older players are completely lacking. I'm impressed by what I've seen from Djokovic so far, he seems to be one of the more consistent youngsters, but like you say Nick I'm not sure if he's got the potential of Gasquet and Berdych. Having said this, he's easily got the potential to reach number 1 in this era, assuming he progresses quicker than the aforementioned two. When Djokovic's game has fully matured, it's match up very favourably against Federer's, and I expect the Serb to defeat the Swiss if they meet in the second half of the season. I can't see him dominating tennis, but a Slam or two certainly aren't out of the question.

Isn't this the guy who said after his epic loss to Nadal in RG that he could have easily beaten him. The guy is hallucinating!!!
I do, though, think he will get into the top ten next year. But he said in this article that he was the youngest man in the top 20 - well, isn't his friend Andy Murray the same age and also in the top 20?

I'm interested in why people don't see Djokovic as a future number one. He may not have the artistry of say Gasquet, but Djokovic seems to have the best temperament of all the younger players, after Nadal. He is very consistent (unlike say Berdych or Baghdatis), and performs equally well on all surfaces. Djokovic reminds me of Ferrero when he first came on the scene - huge forehand, and real intensity - but with a grittier temparement.

Original message by Nick Havoc seemed a decent enough post: likelihood or not of Djokovic being future world number one is a good topic. I personally think that Djokovic has the game, temperament and consistency to become a future world number one - obviously there's a lot of other tough players out there - Federer, Nadal, Roddick, Nalbandian, as well as the other young players. But Djokovic, along with Nadal, this year has impressed me more than the other young guns.
