Title: "A General Music Thread"
Description: A Musical Heyupp??

petalp - September 2, 2006 09:01 PM (GMT)
I thought that it would be fun to create a Music thread..

Is there any song or album that you particularly like? This can be a new release, a 'recent decent', or a classic that you have only recently unearthed, or have forgotten, and now can't get out of your head??

I thought that as just about everything is on youtube somewhere, we could use that as a link so that other people could hear what we might be babbling about!

I can kick things off with a separate posting :)

This is a music thread to cover any general things that people wish to discuss..

For example, if you play music and wish to mention it, post something here!

Or if there's something on TV or the Radio, or perhaps a gig that people should catch, then, again, post it here.. :)

There is a separate suggestions category if you have any ideas about new music threads that should be created...

SB, no need to subscribe, but it is addictive!! I think that you just input what you are looking for into the search engine and see what comes up. Then when you find what you want, just highlight the web address that is showing, go to 'edit', select 'copy', then select where you want it to be pasted. If it's on CC then just go into your message.. You can always preview it and click on the link before posting it, just to see if it works..

I've been getting carried away on youtubve this evening :) fouund a few really peculiar ones, such as Leonard nimoy singing about Bilbo Baggins!! :yikes: They even have Lee Hazlewood clips too, that i've never seen before.. we used to dance to 'Jackson' at indie discos...

Great story re: George. Some guys just need that certain song to get them going!! And good story re: your sis.. yip, agreed re: influences on all fronts!

petalp - September 22, 2006 10:40 PM (GMT)
oops.. meant go to youtube.com

then there is a search field 'Search For' at the top of the page.. input something into there.. it is quite unforgiving about spelling btw, so need to be precise (unless someone uploading the clip has mis-spelled it too!)

YOu can register on youtube, and then save favourites btw, but it is optional

Squeeze! Yay! Saw an old clip of theirs recently and some friend of mine couldn't believe it when they realised that Jools Holland was in that band! 'What? the TV presenter? :)

So.. a reminder for the CC regulars, and just an overview of this thread for those new to CC..

This is really a thread for you to provide a link to youtube of any particular song that you love, whether old or new, happy or sad, etc. When posting it, please mention the song name and artist against the thread..

Also feel free to write a little about the song if you wish.

It doesn't matter if the song is obscure or famous.. it would be nice to hear about what you like to listen to and (if you wish to tell us) why you like that/ those song(s).. :)

Hopefully if you check out the previous postings then you will get an idea of how to post if you wish to do so :)

petalp - December 1, 2006 08:26 PM (GMT)
This thread will eventually become just a general music thread for sundry things.. once I've cleared it out and have allocated the songs to their rightful sections!

Anyway, I shall use this thread just to let you know that if you are stayig in tonight then Jools Holland has those Red Hot Chillis performing..

And jonathan ross has the Fratellis performing..

Apologies to those who are not from/ in the UK, as it is not so relevant to them.. although actually they will probably be available on youtube over the next few days, so you can still check them out, I would think.. :D

Yay! :yahoo:

I had a busy weekend of music making :D

I went home on saturday to play in my County Music Centre Christmas conert, with just some really fun Christmassy stuff!

Then on Sunday I went back to uni for the Warwick Symphony Orchestra Concert, we played Phillip Glass' Itaipu

And some ones which I enjoyed more Rosenkavelier (can't remember composer) Schicksalslied by Brahms I think and Scheherazade by Rimsky Korsakov - all in good fun :D. It went well too!

"Can you help me discover more music that I'll like?

Those questions often evolved into great conversations. Each friend told us their favorite artists and songs, explored the music we suggested, gave us feedback, and we in turn made new suggestions. Everybody started joking that we were now their personal DJs.

We created Pandora so that we can have that same kind of conversation with you."

A website which explores the kind of music you like, it's amazing!

Just heard a classic on the radio this afternoon. "Under Pressure" by Queen. So many categories on here, that I don't know where that one belongs.

Of course, I almost switched the station at first, when I briefly thought it was going to be Vanilla Ice . . .

Hmm.. duets are an interesting one!

I'd put it in Rock, as Queen are rock

The other option would be 80s pop as David Bowie was much more pop in the 80s, with Let's Dance, China Girl and all that ;)

But I'd say that Rock is a better option :)

As for Vanilla Ice? :yikes: Who indeed knows!!

There are a lot of new albums coming out soon that I'm looking forward to

The View-Hats off to the buskers
Jamie T-Panic Prevention
Cold War Kids-Robber & Cowards
Kasier Chiefs-Yours Truly, Angry Mob
Fall Out Boy-Infinity on high
Just Jack-Overtones
and quite shockingly Mika-Life in cartoon motion

However from what I've heard of Bloc Party's new album it sounds like a major dissappointment, the 4/5 songs that i've heard were either average or rubbish....

Had enough of youtube??

Then try this site:

http://www.dailymotion.com/

I've been checking it out this morning.. so far, I actually think that it's better than youtube. There might not be the same range of stuff, but I like the feel of the site.

Anyway, will probably now use this site as well as youtube for music forum postings :)

Are there any others that you know about and would recommend btw (this question kind of negates the last comment, I know!)?

There is actually a website which has links to pretty much every TV series imaginable - which is apparently legal ('cos they are only providing links not actually hosting the content.

Might anyone around here be a fan of Arcade Fire, by any chance.. or am I the only one!! :yikes: I know that Scotsguy is, but he's on sabbatical, methinks.

Well, their new CD is out tomorrow!! :yahoo:

Can't wait for it..!! Feedback from advance copies has been very favourable.

Anyway. the CD is called 'Neon Bible'.. And if you get your skates on, there's a limited edition version with I think a bonus CD (I'm not sure about this).. And apparently the vinyl version is meant to be rather cool too... :)

I'll be rushing to the record shop tomorrow, that's for sure :D

Oh.. for fans in the UK there is the bonus of them being on the Culture Show next Saturday too.. :ok: Well, for me at least ;)

Details from their website:

Arcade Fire - Neon Bible (DELUXE)
The eagerly anticipated second album from Montreal's Arcade Fire exceeds all expectations. Neon Bible was written, produced, arranged, and performed by the Arcade Fire and recorded throughout 2006 in Quebec, New York, Budapest, and London with recording and engineering help from Markus Dravs (Bjork, Brian Eno) and Scott Colburn (Animal Collective, Sun City Girls). With string and orchestral arrangements by the band's own Owen Pallet (also Final Fantasy) and Regine Chassagne, Neon Bible is full of both half-assed punk rock mistakes and meticulously orchestrated woodwinds. Processed strings and mandolin. Quiet rumbles and loud rumbles. But mostly just eleven songs that the band thinks are really good!

Available in CD, LP, and deluxe CD format! The deluxe CD version is packaged in a paperboard clamshell box with two 32-page flip books designed by Tracy Maurice! LP is double 180-gram audiophile quality with three sides of music and an etching on the fourth side. The LP also includes a coupon for a free MP3 download of Neon Bible.
