For those of you who moan that Henman always gets favourable courts at Wimbledon it's worth noting that the organisers here seem willing to put any Italian on Centre even if it means many of the top seeds (Dementieva, Schnyder & Petrova) relegated to other courts. That includes what could be the best match of the day
Dementieva v Peng
A real danger match for Elena as Peng seemed to have found some form last week & Dementieva has a horrible record here.
Other good matches - we'll see how tired Petrova is when she takes on the tricky Srebotnik. Zvonereva could find some form & upset Dechy & what state will Myskina be in today as she takes on Vinci!?

 I'm really happy to see Hingis back and doing well. Maybe this will be the first title of her comeback.
trisco - May 18, 2006 03:15 PM (GMT)
Can we say that yet?? I so hope so, she definately deserves it. What is she now in the race, 6 I think? 6th best player this year after so many years outta the game. It just proves the class of the lady.
We needed her back.
We also need Seles, Capriati and Serena back but thats another story!
Nick Havoc - May 18, 2006 03:17 PM (GMT)
Who is this Oprandi?? She crushed Vera today, 6-0, 6-1! :o
trisco - May 18, 2006 03:25 PM (GMT)
Hmmm. I wasn't expecting that scoreline today. Zvonereva crushed Dechy in the previous score so it seemed she was firing on all cylinders but then some young Italian upstart of a qualifier comes and spoils her party!
She's only 20 and I think it is only her 2nd tourny? Maybe she could do quite well? Although she has Kuzzy next so :whip:
trisco - May 18, 2006 03:26 PM (GMT)
Clijsters has lost the first set by the way, 6-4!

Yep. And down an early break in the second.
Nick Havoc - May 18, 2006 07:38 PM (GMT)
Venus takes the first set over Schnyder, 7-6.
Nick Havoc - May 18, 2006 08:26 PM (GMT)
But Schnyder comes back to level it at a set a piece.
Schnyder now leads 6-7, 6-3, 1-0
Henman is rubbbish - May 18, 2006 10:08 PM (GMT)

Centrale (from 13.00hrs)
1. Dementieva vs. Safina
2. Kuznetsova vs. Oprandi
3. Jankovic vs. V.Williams
4. Pennetta vs. Hingis (NB 20.30hrs)
5. Dulko/Kirilenko vs. Medina Garrigues/Srebotnik
Pietrangeli (from 14.00hrs)
1. Pratt/Stewart vs. Black/Stubbs
2. Safina/Vinci vs. Peschke/Schiavone (after suitable rest)
3. T.Li/Sun vs. Hantuchova/Sugiyama
Should be a good day - decent QF line up.
Kuznetsova should end the dream run of Oprandi & Venus & Hingis should both win their matches. The less sure one is Safina v Dementieva - can Safina follow up her win over Clijsters?

Go Oprandi!! (Whoever you are.)
Nothing against Kuzzy. It's just cool to see an unknown newcomer doing so well.

I agree!!
Oprandi has just broken back in the third set it's 1-2, Oprandi to serve.
Ken001 - May 19, 2006 03:05 PM (GMT)
Came back to find Oprandi serving for the match at 5-4 :o , but she got broken, so 5-5 Kuzzy serving.
Ken001 - May 19, 2006 03:07 PM (GMT)
Kuz holds to love, 6-5
Come on, Oprandi, let's have a tie-break!!
Ken001 - May 19, 2006 03:12 PM (GMT)
Great hold from Oprandi from 0-30 down, time for the tie-break!
Ken001 - May 19, 2006 03:21 PM (GMT)
Kuzzy takes the tie-break 7-4, but a great fight from Oprandi!
Nick Havoc - May 19, 2006 05:50 PM (GMT)
Venus was having a fairly tight match with Jankovic, but seems to be running away with it now, up 5-0 in the third.
Nick Havoc - May 20, 2006 12:21 PM (GMT)
Kuznetsova serving at 2-3 vs. Safina, after a break a piece in the early going.
welshboy91 - May 21, 2006 03:38 PM (GMT)
Congartulations Martina Hingis on a 6-2 7-5 win over Dinara Safina.
You'll move up to 13-14 in the world. This is your 1st title since your comeback, a very impressive tier-I event. Ths should be excellent preparation before RG
LDF - May 21, 2006 03:39 PM (GMT)
