Title: Davydenko v Nalbandian
Description: 4th Rubber of Davis Cup Final

petalp - December 3, 2006 10:16 AM (GMT)
Thought I'd start this (even though I have to go out shortly..!)

The rubber is just a few minutes old. Nalbandian served first and held to 30. His serving was already better than yesterday..

So.. 1-0 to Nalbandian.. first set

You watch the match via a pay-per-view stream mate?

petalp - December 3, 2006 10:18 AM (GMT)
Davydenko has made a bit of a patchy start.. a few UE's..

But Kolya holds to 30 as well..

Both service games have been a bit tense.. 1-1

Hello!

I'm following it from numerous sources, including radio and online scoring..

There is a live stream, in fact a couple. Hold on a sec, will dig them out..

In the meantime, Nalby's serving has gone wobbly, and Davydenko as 2 bp's but Nalby has saved them.

petalp - December 3, 2006 10:24 AM (GMT)

Nalby holds, winning 4 points in a row to make it 2-1.. a good hold, having been 15-40 down..

petalp - December 3, 2006 10:29 AM (GMT)
This is the main link that I am following:

Davydenko is not serving well.. 15-40.. and Nalbandian breaks! 3-1 to Nalby..

petalp - December 3, 2006 10:30 AM (GMT)
Nalby seems to be targetting Davydenko's backhand.. and successfully it seems. I had never thought that it was a weakness.

And the break seems to have buoyed Nalbandian. He's starting to play some good shots, and holds serve to lead 4-1.

petalp - December 3, 2006 10:35 AM (GMT)
Davydenko seems nervous. Maybe the occasion is getting to him?

He needs to calm his nerves and get his game together.

petalp - December 3, 2006 10:36 AM (GMT)
Davydenko was 30-30 again on serve, but a couple of UE's from Nalby hand the game to Nikolai..

4-2 to Nalbandian

mightyjeditribble - December 3, 2006 10:38 AM (GMT)
Davydenko :(

Nalby holds to lead 5-2..

Still early days though ...

If he gets a handle on it after the first set, he can level it annd sort out the 'Dirty Argentine'. ;)

It doesn't sound like Davydenko is playing as good as he could though. :(

mightyjeditribble - December 3, 2006 10:44 AM (GMT)
Good lord ... those comments from the commentators about 'David's cup' or 'Davy's cup' really make me groan ...

Set point for Nalbandian. :(

mightyjeditribble - December 3, 2006 10:45 AM (GMT)
First set to Nalby 6-2. :o :(

I'm disappointed.

First set to Nalby 6-2. :o :(

I'm disappointed.

Yes, it's been scratchy tennis from both players, it seems.. :(

Still, in a 5-setter anything can happen, but at this point, it looks as if it will go to a deciding rubber..

A prospect which can make any Safin fan shiver ...

Come On Davydenko. Make it a quick win so I can get back to my Hamlet essay xD

mightyjeditribble - December 3, 2006 10:52 AM (GMT)
Davydenko manages to hold serve for 1-1. Still a bit too shaky for my taste ...

petalp - December 3, 2006 10:53 AM (GMT)
Both players hold serve.. 1:1

Nalby seems to challenge an awful lot of decisions in all of the matches of his that I've followed..

Well, I'm not surprised - they have unlimited challenges, after all. I don't think Nalbandian is a guy who would hold back when in doubt ...

This is true.. ;)

Uh-oh.. bp on Davydenko's serve.. but saved..

Davai Nickolai!

mightyjeditribble - December 3, 2006 11:00 AM (GMT)
Davydenko saves bp, but is still in trouble, at deuce on his own serve.

God, he really needs to get his first serves in!!!

mightyjeditribble - December 3, 2006 11:02 AM (GMT)
Nalbandian is challenging another ace --- and this time, it was out!

(And that's why he uses his the challenges ...)

mightyjeditribble - December 3, 2006 11:03 AM (GMT)
Another break point :yikes:

mightyjeditribble - December 3, 2006 11:04 AM (GMT)
Nalbandian breaks. :( :(

Looks like Davy needs to keep the rallies short.

mightyjeditribble - December 3, 2006 11:07 AM (GMT)
4-1 Nalbandian :yikes:

Get your act together, for god's sake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I haven't tried it, I can't say whether it will work, but for those more IT literate folk, maybe worth a try?? Maybe it will work for the 5th rubber too??

mightyjeditribble - December 3, 2006 11:13 AM (GMT)
15-30 to Davydenko now on Nalbandian's serve. A bit of a chance for the Russian?

mightyjeditribble - December 3, 2006 11:13 AM (GMT)
TWO BREAK POINTS!

Come on, Davy!

Something is rotten in the state of Russia ...

Oh dear 6-2 6-2. :(

Will he win to love, or not to love, that now seems to be the question ...
