is expected to have an easy run in the opening round of a Hong Kong Invitational after being paired with Chinese doubles star Yan Zi, organisers announced on Tuesday.

If she wins, she will play the winner of a tough fight between Czech Nicole Vaidizova, ranked 10th, and world No 8 Russian Elena Dementieva in the four day event beginning January 3 next year.

In the other first-round matches, world No 5 Kim Clijsters of Belgium will face China's Zheng Jie, and American Lindsay Davenport will take on fourth-ranked Russian Svetlana Kutzezova.

The friendly tournament is considered an important part of players build up to the Australian Open, which begins on January 15.

Go Linds! :D  :yahoo:

No jUstine or Amelie in the mix, which has been a rarity for Lindsay this year

There's still the dreaded 'scream queen of mean ' there though

Well, I'm happy to see her play there, and I'll follow her matches, but it's not a real tournament, so I can't get too excited...

I mean, had she beaten Venus 6-1 6-3 in a real event I'd have gone off my rocker! roflmao

Still, it'll be nice to have some Lindsay news to talk about

Can't get too excited about these sort of tournaments, but I suppose it'll be a chance for the girls to top up their bank accounts before Christmas.Would support anyone against Sharapova , and whose screaming irritates and whose tennis bores me

:D Indeed it was just an exhibiton match and the Williams sisters are notorious at tanking such matches ;)

Still Serena did have to endure a humiliating defeat for her money, whether she cared on not :P
