Title: A Brief Note About New Members
Nick Havoc - November 30, 2006 03:23 PM (GMT)
With the shut-down of the BBC FiveLive boards, we have a bit of an influx of new members. I'd like to ask all the members here to remember that the main thing I ask is that you treat others with respect. So, regardless of what fights or run-ins you had with someone on the Beeb, if they choose to come post over here, please give them a reasonable chance.
If you see posts that are inappropriate, report and ignore, rather than getting into a fight. It won't take long for the mods to weed out who just wants to stir and cause trouble from who want to have a place to chat and discuss.
But we won't be kicking anyone out JUST because of how they might feel about any given player or era, etc. If they can discuss it in a reasonable manner, the more opinions the better.
:ok:

She's probably quite confused - she's not used to a messageboard where she's allowed to post something other than "Great message" or "Fantastic analysis"

Hey plenty of good members on this board. One problem - I can't get the hang of its format. I find it difficult to navigate within topics. Can someone send me the link with all the hot tennis topics discussed? Is there a main "Tennis" page like the Beeb used to have? There are too many boards and sub boards....
Help!!!I am lost!!!!
Sorry Nick, your thing is too good for a simple mind like me!

Salut Tenez,
Ive been having a few problems myself, but someone suggested clicking on 'portal' at top of home page and then going on today's active topics. My son helped me out a bit too.Not too much tennis discussion on here at the moment, but there seem to be quite a few former BBC people on here.I've also tried 606,but can't seem to get anywhere on thatWhat's happened to sportsrep?Your discussions were great to read on the old board. You were right about there being less traffic on this board.

Hi Tenez...
There isn't a main tennis board as such. There are various different threads with lots of things going off in them. On the home page on the right hand side, you can see the latest post within that forum, within that forum though there may also be other threads so remember to check them.
It is a better format as you are not restricetd to one page and your posts will not get lost after a couple of hours.
Takes a bit of getting used to but once you find your way around you should be fine!
:D

Good point Fedrules about the Active Topics.
That can also be accessed from the home page near the bottom above where it says who is online. :D
If you look into the forum you should find conversation to keep you occupied.

Thanks Fedrule. I'll try it. Sure, would be great to have SportRep in the mix as well. We will make a better Beeb out of this one (sorry many of you believe it is already, but let me/us get used to it) . We just need to create more tennis discussions.
Cheers.

Thanks Trisco as well. I am sure i'll get used to it.
It just gives me too many options. Even posting or quoting is tricky (tells you how bad I am
:( )

Hi Fedrules..
A similar option on here is to use the My Assistant window.. On any page in the top right hand corner, below where you see "Calendar" there is a link "My Assistant" if you have this window open, it tells you of new topics and new replies in your topics.. unsure at the mo as to whether it tells you of new replies to your posts but if you keep this window open and refresh (Just press F5 on that window) it should at least keep you up to date of new threads.
:D
*EDIT* Within that window, you also have an option for "My last Posts" that may also be of use.
*EDIT AGAIN* Top right also has an option for view new posts. :D

Trisco, thanks for the navigation tips! :ok: I wasn't aware of any of them, shows how little I know as well!
I like the option of checking 'today's active topics'. This is just above the list of members online towards the bottom of the main menu.
I would also think that it would be good to be able to filter the topics that the poster has contributed towards, just like on the five live board.
Re: your Opening Post Nick, I guess the key thing is the level of spamming that might occur. This might be an issue for new members to consider too, who are also aware of the posting histories of those more likely to spam, and might be thinking: 'here we go again'. Hopefully they won't be deterred, as it might also be a new experience for them to post on a board that is actually moderated.. :)
Dinky Jo - December 2, 2006 10:23 AM (GMT)
Actually petalp, I think that, so far, most people have been able to just discuss the opinions of members of the BBC, rather than have arguments with them. Nick said in one thread, that he doesn't mind those opinions, so long as there's no spamming! Look at the thread that chetanpv started for example - it actually started an interesting discussion about the Oz open, whcih can only be a good thing!!! I just think the answer is - don't rise to the bait :D

Agreed Jo! :)
I think that picking fights with anyone deemed to be a troublemaker will just make things worse. As long as the threads don't descend into mindless rhetoric (as happened at the beeb) then all should be ok. :ok: And you're right, the Oz open discussion was quite an interesting one.
