Rusedski to play on next season

Rusedski does not know if he will play another Wimbledon
Ex-British number one Greg Rusedski says he will play on next season and wants to represent Great Britain in the Davis Cup in April.
The 33-year-old has a long-term hip injury and has slipped to 193rd in the world, leading him to previously hint he might retire at the end of 2006.

But he told the Sun on Saturday: "I'm definitely going to play next year, I don't know how much.

"If I have to, I'll play a few smaller events, maybe some Challengers."

Britain face Holland in Birmingham in April and Rusedski has made no secret of his desire to play at least one more Davis Cup tie on home soil.

"I've spoken to (Davis Cup coach) John Lloyd and if selected, I'd love to play in Birmingham," he said.

"To maintain my fitness, I will try to get a few wildcards to events," added Rusedski, who will not be heading to Australia for the start of the season.

British number four Rusedski said he did not know if he would be competing at Wimbledon in June.

"I cannot look that far ahead," he said. "I enjoy my tennis and it's difficult to know when to call it a day. I am closer to the end, I know that."

This weekend Rusedski is playing for an England side against Scotland in the Aberdeen Cup, an exhibition event which also features British number one Andy Murray.

I just cant believe he's going ahead for another year- give me strength

When players like Agassi, Martin, Costa retired, they at least had a bit more dignity to know their time was up, unlike Over-the hill greg and his cliched ' i still have a chance at Wimbledon '.

Frankly, if he still enjoys competing and he's still earning money from it, then who are we to judge?

If he's willing to play for the Davis Cup next year, shouldn't we support rather than barrack him? This, IMO, is what is wrong with the majority of British tennis supporters.

If he wants to continue enjoy playing he can but I personally would quit if I were in his shoes.

Completely agree. Greg himself knows he is no longer a major player (hence him not going to Australia and admitting challenger events will be part of his schedule) but we should respect his desicion and let him play one last Davis Cup tie

I mean consider the end of 2005, Greg was having a mini-renaissance whilst Tim was slumping, it was understandable for Greg to play on in 2006, it didn't go well for him, but there is no shame in having a poor season. I'll happily keep supporting him until HE decides to call it a day (which will probably be in April, or if he isn't selected then after that). I don't expect to see him at Wimbledon on court.

Normally I would criticize this decision, but I'm a couple of years older than Greg, and there's just something about hitting that yellow fuzzy coated rubber thing that's strangely addictive.

He's still a pro-tennis player, and loves it,continue if you love it,but have a tough skin mate because the viewing public thinks winning or nothing.

How impressive: Rusedski took a set off Murray(!)

Whats dignity got to do with it?
He knows he is never going to win a Slam or probabaly even any other tournament.
But if he still enjoys playing Tennis why not. He could still enjoy the odd good win every now and then.
He is still young if he retires what else would he do?
