Some General Information, for starters.

Please include a link to youtube (or another site if possible) for the song that you wish to include on this thread, to enable people to hear the song/ see the video.

When posting your link, please include the title of the song and the name of the artist along with your link.

It would be great if you could also write a bit about why you love a particular song, or perhaps there is a funny story to tell about it, or maybe it brings back other good memories?

Also, if you wish to include a link to a great site relating to this style of music, then please add it to this thread!

I shall write a little about this section, and also post an example to start this off :)

Well, get those tuxedos, tiaras and feather boas, and cocktails for those easy listening classics! Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin..

For those classy folk, there's Jazz.. Billie Holiday, Nina Simone...

And for those liking that big band sound, there's the likes of Glenn Miller and Louis Prima to consider..

I currently have Blues in the heaader of this subject, but shall include this in the section 'Guitar Legends'.

Hopefully there will be some of those on youtube to dig out, as they would be asbolute gems :D

SB and I spoke about this song ages ago, but it might have been lost on another thread somewhere! So I thought i'd post it again.

Here is an absolute classic from the 50s from Perry Como:

Papa Loves Mambo - Perry Como

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_e7SLud96U

I went travelling in 2002 with a few friends, and one of the tapes that we had was of easy listening songs. This was one of the big favourites on the tape, and when we were driving around there was lots of singing going on to this one!!

Maybe the song sounds familiar to you? Well, if you have seen the remake of Ocean's 11, then you will have heard it played in that film ;)

 Petalp ... I think I have to make a case for a Rythm and Blues
category too or maybe even soul and that neo- soul jazzy type thing....

I am sure there must be people on the board who enjoy that genre of music as well ..... from Mariah , toni Braxton, Boyz II Men .. to the the new acts on the block Beyonce and Joss Stone and all..

And Acid , Funk, Smooth Jazz..... My favourites include Acoustic Alchemy, Peter white, Marc Antoine, BraND new heavies and Incognito..... great weekend music.. or :) that long plane or train journey....

Hello Suzi..

There should be categories for all of those styles of music that you mentioned. The thing is, they are just not used as much as the others, and therefore often sink to the bottom of the pile.. :(

This thread is good for jazz and blues.. but the likes of Beyonce, Mariah could also go into pop I guess..

I'd put the likes of the Brand New Heavies, Incognito and Marc Antoine in this thread.

If you are unsure as to which songs to put into which thread, then there is also a music forum holding bay. You can post them there and I can move them to a suitable thread. :)

I'll start off with

Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine

it's a swing version of Depeche Mode's My Personal Jesus, it takes a bit to get to it..

I like that too, some of the jazz singers do big bands, like Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald.

I love swing dancing though, along with Rock'n'roll dancing grease style. So much fun :D

petalp - May 13, 2008 09:45 PM (GMT)
Was at a burlesque-style cabaret at the weekend..

There was a lot of dancing to classic songs from a bygone era and this was one of the songs that was played:

Boum - Charles Trenet

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0KWyWwVp0E

Im sure that I've heard it in several films. I just think that it's one of those cosy happy fun songs :)
