Title: "For Those about to Rock, we salute you!"
Description: Monsters of Rock!!

Not a fan of this band at all, but this is a mean solo by Slash in the middle :ok: :

Sweet Child O' Mine : Guns n Roses

Decided to stick with some glam bands of my youth....

Firstly we have Motley Crue - from the early days with Livewire:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gjh562Kwul4

And then more recently with Kickstart My Heart:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDAGa3JLwIQ

Then a very early one from Faster Pussycat - Bathroom wall.... ah, you cant beat an early FP song!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MLV021av3Y

Then something a little more mellow from the the lovely Dogs D'Amour - I nearly got to see this band live, but due to a rather large intake of vodka and orange, spent my time in the next room instead, wishing I hadnt indulged... oh, and then practising my age (upgraded from 15 to 18) when the place got raided.... happy days! The song is I dont Want you to Go

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89mmhujRXk0

Next, I had to slip in this song from Danielle Dax - I know Petal already put one of his up, but Cathouse is a classic you must hear!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GU6dIBK7_ig

And lastly, you have to have something from those old rockers, Aerosmith! Dream On is an earlier one, and one of my all time favs...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6SxW_rT9uE

Ah, another joyful delve into my past! Tomorrow I might indulge in some 80s cheese!

:yahoo:

these look interesting as I've read about a few of them, but hadn't heard much of them.. if they are the early 80s, then I was busy reading Smash Hits and Number 1!

And yes, Cathouse is a classic!! She ended up with the same sound though.. there was 'White Knuckle Ride, which was kind of like the other two weren't they! But great songs nonetheless :ok:

Used to drum along to this one..

Free - Alright Now

OMG! I have been transported back to the school bus run circa 1972  I met Phil Lynnot in London the year before he od'd, great bloke.

Thin Lizzy - Whisky in the Jar

Still on that school bus...get those heads banging

Focus - Hocus Pocus

Damn! I'm on a real 70's kick at the moment...

Golden Earring - Radar Love

Not usually too keen on vids of live music, but for drumming it don't get much better...

Cozy Powell - Dance with the Devil

SuperBRAT - November 1, 2006 07:06 PM (GMT)
Wow that is a real 70s rock selection there. I love Magie Ma by Rod. And Thin Lizzy i soen I recall my dad singing along to down a milkbottle for a mike! roflmao

ah, Poison... when Alice got involved with Desmond Child... he of the big rock ballad type stuff - Bon Jungle and Aerosmith also being ones to benefit!

I love reading interviews of his... all that chopping peoples heads off on stage and such like and underneath it all, hes very much a god fearing man!

Some General Information, for starters.

Please include a link to youtube (or another site if possible) for the song that you wish to include on this thread, to enable people to hear the song/ see the video.

When posting your link, please include the title of the song and the name of the artist along with your link.

It would be great if you could also write a bit about why you love a particular song, or perhaps there is a funny story to tell about it, or maybe it brings back other good memories?

Also, if you wish to include a link to a great site relating to this style of music, then please add it to this thread!

I shall write a little about this section, and also post an example to start this off :)

petalp - November 23, 2006 11:52 PM (GMT)
Now then.. This includes those legends such as Led Zep, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Alice Cooper.. so no surprise there.. :)

But it also includes those power Rock ballads too (if you so wish).. so, lighters at the ready!!

But some those classic 'Rock Tracks' would definitely be great.. get those air guitars playing!! :ok:

petalp - November 25, 2006 12:13 PM (GMT)
Do remember Heart? My recollection of them was those big power ballads of the 80s, Big hair, always featured on those 'Leather and Lace' Soft Metal compilations!!

Little did I know that they were actually a pretty good rock band in the 70s prior to all of the AOR stuff that they did. I think that they were much bigger in the USA than in the UK. I was played some of their records when in the USA recently, and was surprised to hear that they were actually a classic rock band.. Anyway, here are a few songs of theirs:

Magic Man - Heart

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MH1iLR_It38

Barracuda - Heart

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpkitLUbeEg

Crazy on You - Heart

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qzTHtq0Jlo

Now I wouldn't say that I know my classic rock that well, but I think that these are great songs. I would always argue that there are good songs in almost every genre, and was very impressed with these ones!! From reading about the band at around that era (1974-77 I think), it seems that they were real trailblazers in terms of women in rock.. The band is fronted by Ann and Nancy Wilson (sisters). Ann is a fine singer and Nancy a very good guitarist (especially good in the opening part of Crazy on You).

It's quite refreshing to see one's prejudices challenged (Heart meant 'These Dreams' and 'Alone' for me!).. I see them in a very different light now.. :)

Heres one that needs no introduction,

We will rock you/ We are the champions - Queen & anastacia

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wESYBII0Jdg

I think I prefer this version over the original, just might have something to do with the lead singer !!!

SerenaW19 - November 25, 2006 07:03 PM (GMT)
I still prefer this one :D

We are the champions/We will rock you - Queen

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rXaoATtwUw

sir matchstickmen - November 27, 2006 07:55 PM (GMT)
We are the champions is fabulous! :D

I've been lucky enough over the years to have it play at big grounds when my teams have won - i.e. Leicester Tigers at Twickenham AND Millenium stadium, Leicester City at Wembley. What a feeling! :D

Big Al - November 27, 2006 09:10 PM (GMT)
I suppose most of you are too young to remember this band :
They deserve their own category really ,not really 'Monsters' of Rock or 'Glam rock' but pretty unique and timeless :

Good lovin' gone bad by Bad Company

Wishing Well is one of my fave all tiem rock songs. My mate's band say it is one of their most requested songs, funny hwo it appeals to so many different people of all ages. Not played much though, i onyl head it through mate's band. In fact he played a couple of years back at the local pub street party on the Jubileee day (no I am NOT a Royalist I went for the piss up :D ) and no one had dance dup until that point, then suddenyl the street was heavign with dancers inc myself! roflmao I lot of very respectable middle class hippies suddenly emerged and I have not seem them since! It was a great day actually, ruined only by the guy who is a great singer BUT decided to do a full set of Elvis stuff, so I went roudn the corner to avoid that but i coudl still hear it, in fact my mate heard it in his house! :D

Now we are talking! The Who as you may have guessed on oen fo my all time faves.   Interesting how they can be called mods and rockers, as they changed their style as time moved on. I beleive they started punk - look at my Gen adn the smashing it up antics, and mayeb even stadium rock before it went crap. Quad is one of the best albums ever made. Stunning. And there is never a time when it doesnt; appeal, unliek some albums that onyl appeal if you are chilling, partying or in an altered state of mind. ;) :D
