Mkkreuk - September 2, 2006 09:21 PM (GMT)
I thought there was already one of these threads but at the moment im listening to a lot of Cherish, Megan Rochell, Aaliyah (obviously) and Letoya Luckett (she used to be in Destiny's Child when they started and there were 4 of them Beyonce, KR, Letoya and Le Tania i think).

The ONLY Megan Rochell track i can find on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fu0cuiFPaUk

I'm sure ive posted some aaliyah stuff elsewhere. i might dig it up...

Just checking out Megan Rochell... R n B, very polished :)

With RnB, there's just the odd song now and again that sticks out, for me at least..

Like this one (Family Affair - Mary J Blige)

Some General Information, for starters.

Please include a link to youtube (or another site if possible) for the song that you wish to include on this thread, to enable people to hear the song/ see the video.

When posting your link, please include the title of the song and the name of the artist along with your link.

It would be great if you could also write a bit about why you love a particular song, or perhaps there is a funny story to tell about it, or maybe it brings back other good memories?

Also, if you wish to include a link to a great site relating to this style of music, then please add it to this thread!

I shall write a little about this section, and also post an example to start this off :)

petalp - November 23, 2006 09:51 PM (GMT)
Ok, current chart music.. Well, hopefully this is relatively self-explanatory. As the most popular music in the charts these days tends to be RnB and Hip Hop, I wouold anticipate much of this type of music to be on this thread.. so, Black Eyed Peas, Beyonce, etc, etc..

There is also a current indie section, which might be a better place for some of the indie hits that make the charts, such as the Arctic Monkeys, Rzorlight etc. It could get confusing, and I may move a few songs around until we get some sort of consensus for sections.. kind of making it up as we go along!

petalp - November 23, 2006 09:54 PM (GMT)
Ok, I want to kick things off with the following:

Crazy - Gnarls Barkley

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86C4RNuAj6A

I know that this has been played to death in the UK, but I really think that this is a classic song.. To me, it sounds timeless already, and will be one of those songs that I will hear now and again and really enjoy. I first heard it on the indie station on XFM where they played it relentlessly.. and then it just took off... :)

I really didn't like it at first, and the constant playing of it didn't help, but I have warmed to it a little. :)

Oh i hated it at first  roflmao

Now i've kinda grown to tolerate it now, but Hip-hop doesnt really work for me unless the lyrics are more orginal and constructed better, eg ' Gangster's Paradise ', which is the benchmark IMO :D

SuperBRAT - November 23, 2006 10:08 PM (GMT)
I liked Crazy immediately, great beat and lyrics and a really good soul vocal. Sadly it was played to death and I have goen off it a little but it is a good song. I liked th efollow up song cos it sounds exactly like old Northern Soul.

petalp - December 2, 2006 12:05 PM (GMT)
I'd say that it is pop Jo :ok:

Petalp - just apoint.

It's very hard to post chart songs on here as very few (well that i look for) have made you tube. It probably takes time fo rthe copywright to be relasxd (or flouted roflmao ) Mayeb that is why there are a lack fo posts?

And hwo far back shoudl this thread go?

Maybe I was wrong as I found this eventually

The Feeling - Fill My Little World Right Up

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRpgzHbDGQQ

I quite liek this band. Not the greatest on earth by any stretch of the imagination, but they do sound rather nsotalgic with a 70s pop/rock feel. I find this song quite jolly and catchy. :)

Hey SB

I didn't realise that new chart songs took a while to be posted to youtube..

In terms of how far this thread should go back? Well, I still plan to break up the original music thread and allocate the songs to categories..

It's actually a little more difficult than I thought as a few posts list 5-10 songs from all different categories!! I will get it sorted though as I think that it will make life a whole lot easier for people with more examples :)

SuperBRAT - December 2, 2006 01:20 PM (GMT)
Oh it is hard job alright. I don't envy you. There is bound to be some cross over, that's what music is about. And even with all the categories there are some things that don't really fit confortably into any thread, ro coudl go in 5 threads. So dont; worry. :) I think ti si early days yet. Some posters do need to think more carefulyl abotu where they post stuff though. :)

I was thinkiing - maybe you should give people a thread to discuss their favourite song or band, singer? As long as they dont; spam it up of course. That way those who don't want to wade through every thread may be happier. It woudl also be nice to get a profile of what everyoen likes. Do you knwo what i mean? How abotu a thread where we just put in apost that says what we like and gives examples of our fave bands, etc? And any dislikes. I tmight help to see where peopel ar emor elikely to post too, then if you were going to rejuggle the threads you;d have an idea fo where peopel were most likely to post. Just a thought. :)

Pebs - December 3, 2006 12:01 PM (GMT)
not sure this is quite the right thread, but it seemed the most likely. Just a few funky tracks that I find quite sexy...

Justin Timberlake - Sexy Back

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgtmETjMT7Y

50 Cent - Candy Shop

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYQN6zwo4sY

Beyonce - Naughty Girl

Kelis - Milkshake

Jamiroquai-Runaway

One of my favourite bands ever.I know JK has been basically been producing the same sound for fifteen years, but what A sound.
This is the music that would persuade me to pretend I was still a great mover.I have every album of his and this is just a great dance track.

Pebs - December 18, 2006 06:44 PM (GMT)
this is fairly recent so I guess it goes in here... best played at top volume throughout the house when you cant ignore the housecleaning any more

Agree. Jamiroquai have grown on me over the years becasue although their music is similar, it's a classic style with a great groove and a great voice. Qulaity band :)

Not into much chart stuff, but this woman is the best singer we've prodiced for years. Such attitude and truly great voice.

Amy Winehouse - I'm No Good

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFVM5pVTwkM

And this one is very retro and I love singing it to the nieghbour's cat for some reason! roflmao

Rehab
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LD5sahXoj0U

Btw I'm NOT going! :D How many singers coudl get away with it? It's very Nancy Sinatra.

I've got to buy that album Back to Black.

petalp - January 29, 2007 10:25 PM (GMT)
I have the AW CD.. only bought it recently, but seemed good on first impression.. I'll pa more attention to it over the next few days and post some thoughts on it :)

I do like Amy Winehouse, partly because she has an astonishing voice for someone who is 'size zero'. You look at her and think: 'just how can she sing like that?!'. I also quite like her because she's a complete character. She's not backawrds in coming forwards with her opinions, and ever so slightly neurotic/ eccentric.. my kind of singer ;)

Oh her voice is great. I saw her do some old Jazz on Jools Holland - I'm not easily impressed wioth Jazz and soul singers and she blew me away. Pure talent. And I love the way she is so anti-Beyonce and co if you know what I mean. Has her own style and doesnt; really give shit does she? :D

 good choices SB, I keep meaning to get Mr Pebs to download her stuff for me - think she is most unique.

saw her on Nevermind the Buzzcocks and she was just fantastic - great sense of humour, completely bladdered, and completely lacking in vanity.
