Title: Fed cup should be played like the Davis cup
Hiromiku - May 1, 2006 03:24 PM (GMT)
You know like this:
Day 1: 2 singles rubbers
Day 2: Doubles rubber
Day 3: 2 singles rubbers
Instead of...
Day 1: 2 singles rubbers
Day 2: 2 singles and 1 doubles rubbers.
Any thoughts?

I agree to be honest. The thing I don't like about the Fed Cup format is that the doubles can actually be the deciding rubber (rather than a huge influence on the result). I'd rather see two singles players cope with the enormous pressure on them. Also, it just seems less cluttered to spread it out over 3 days rather than 2.

...And it can also be a dead rubber :(

True, but then again so can both singles matches in the Davis Cup.

Yeah, but at least two of them can be alive.

It's the same in Fed Cup - in fact, at least 3 are guaranteed to be live rubbers

Yeah but it's good to have a doubles tie that is alive.

I prefer the Fed Cup format to the Davis Cup one .... it has more drama
