Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, Memento)
Quentin Tarantino (stereotypical I know, but he just seems to excel in whatever he does - whether it be film or TV)
Bryan Singer (Superman Returns, Usual Suspects)

Steven Spielberg
Alfred Hitchcock and Ridley Scott
Of more recent times I think Peter Jackson is great :D

Quentin Tarantino - now that guy rocks! love his films - have some of the most memorable scenes and quotes ever - and can be very powerful.
True Romance - one of my fav films ever.
