Title: Mauresmo/Sharapova out of Rome

The Dav - May 14, 2006 06:44 PM (GMT)
I've just seen this over on ESPN, Amelie is out with a sore throat, and Maria is out with a foot injury, can anyone confirm this?

This means that Sharpie will be going to Istanbul :(

LDF - May 14, 2006 06:47 PM (GMT)
Damn...

LDF - May 14, 2006 06:48 PM (GMT)
I had a feeling Maria would withdraw after the foot injury reports came through in April. And yeh, she probably will play Istanbul now...otherwise she'd go into RG with no preparation :o

Kiestce - May 14, 2006 07:08 PM (GMT)
Sore throat roflmao

dl04 - May 14, 2006 07:15 PM (GMT)
Maybe Sharapova wont play any warm-ups, i mean has she actually stated that she'd play Istanbul if she couldnt compete in Rome? I dont think we'll see Sharapova in Istanbul to be honest.

If so, it means her next scheduled tournaments are RG and Wimbledon :o

I mean if she has a foot injury, wouldnt it be best to rest it for 100% fitness come RG?

The Dav - May 14, 2006 07:28 PM (GMT)
Yeah, it's been made official...

http://www.sportsline.com/tennis/story/9439070

Amelie's lead at the top has been cut quite considerably I'd imagine, and Sharapova won't be able to compensate for her loss this week, so Nadia will be the third seed at RG!

dl04 - May 14, 2006 07:32 PM (GMT)
Could Nadia be number 1 this year :o :o :o

Sway - May 14, 2006 07:34 PM (GMT)
damn! no hat trick for amelie! sore throat?? how random! lol!

LDF - May 14, 2006 07:34 PM (GMT)
Amelie will lose 300 points as the champion.

Which means if Kim reaches the semis (she isn't defending anything), she'll be the number 1 seed! :o

Yes, if she improved her results at this year's Slams by one round then I'd say she be put into contention, the only thing is that Kim can gain a lot at the upcoming Slams, but she has a lot to defend during the summer, and I don't think Nadia has much...

Can you imagine if Nadia was the #1 seed in NY?! :o

Sway - May 14, 2006 07:37 PM (GMT)
didn't the points come off already LDF?

Can Kim get back to #1 next week? She seemed to be extremely far behind the last time I checked out the rankings...

LDF - May 14, 2006 07:39 PM (GMT)
Sorry guys, my bad - Kim can get close to Amelie if she was to win the event, but would still be a good 90 points behind.

The Dav - May 14, 2006 07:39 PM (GMT)
Well the most important thing is for them to be all quite low in points totals, and for them to all share wins, because that means that Lindsay can sneak back up to #1 ;)

The Dav - May 14, 2006 07:40 PM (GMT)
Wow, so Amelie will be the top seed in Paris - pressure!

She might still sneak a top 4 seeding at Wimbledon!

Firstly, she must defend her RG QF points and win Istanbul. Then we have to hope for one of the following:

- Kim loses very early in Paris. Because it's a week later this year, her Eastbourne points will come off before the seedings are made.

- Maria loses very early in Paris. She isn't down to defend Birmingham, so she'll lose some points there. Even if she does play Eastbourne, it won't be used for the seedings.

- Nadia has to lose before the 4th round at RG.

Amelie's safe.

The end of the year is not same without Lindsay as #1 roflmao

Top 4 by Wimbledon, with a free summer (virtually) ahead of her, that sounds good, to be honest I just want her to get back up for 3 more weeks so she can pass the 100-week mark, then anyone can have it, I don't care :D

I think so too...after RG, she's only got the Toronto final and US Open 4th round to defend...

I'd much prefer it to be Amelie at the end of the year!lol!
but i won't be overly dissapointed if Lindsey is! But what i really want for Linds is to get that slam! It is due! they owe it to her!

dl04 - May 14, 2006 07:49 PM (GMT)
I think the YER will be:

1. Justine
2. Kim
3. Mauresmo
4. Petrova
5. Davenport
6. Sharapova( just have a feeling)
7. Venus
8. Dementieva
9. kuznetsova
10. Hingis( may be even higher)

Yeah, JuJu will definitely get back to #1, I'd sort of agree with your ranking dl, I think Dementieva is a candidate to fall out though...
