SuperBRAT - November 23, 2006 06:21 PM (GMT)
Oh love a bit of MGM escapism :D Wizard of Oz is just brilliant, I saw it when I was abotu 5 and it looked great despite being about 20 years old. Looks great and such fun. :D Singing in the Rain i svery clever and funny and the dnacing is fab. Shame we dont; have muscials now, but I doubt they woudl work. teh last one, Moulin rougue, was truly diabolical. There werent; even any decent songs in it, all silly badly sung pop songs. Utter rubbish.
Not a musical as such, but a music film - Saturday night Fever. I love it. It's quite gritty and realistic and travolta is fab. :D

oooo, always loved Oliver - makes me cry everytime - poor old Nancy...
love all the songs in the original (and new) Charlie and Choc Factory
and Moulin Rouge.... (sorry SB!)
SerenaW19 - November 23, 2006 06:50 PM (GMT)
O ye Oliver was great, I preferred the stage show though :D - the one I was in that is :D
Never seen Moulin Rouge...
And Greece is a classic B)

Moulin rouge pebs? Oooh how camp! roflmao
Grease- it's Ok but cheesy and I prefer SNF and the disco stuff. My dad embarrassed me in the cinmea when I was forced to go and see Grease with him by singing along to Travolta's 'Sandy' and everyone laughed! roflmao Must have scarred me. :D
Oliver was good, interestign choice of musical given the misery of the story. I loved Nancy and forget who played her. Ron Moody was great as Fagin, "I am re-view-ing the si-tu-a-tion" :D We need emoticons that are music notes! roflmao
Pebs - November 23, 2006 09:58 PM (GMT)
roflmao I have that in my head now SB! The only song I cant stand in Oliver is that 'who will take this beautiful morning' one - makes me feel slightly queasy each time!
Ron Moody as Fagin was simply marvellous! The Artful Dodger was sooo cool as well - when he's singing to Nancy 'I'd do anything, for you dear, anything... I'd do anything for you....' my heart just melts!

ooooh....I went to see a stage version of grease recently - it was very good, really made me laugh, and they managed to do a few innovative things with it so it wasn't just like seeing an exact replica of the film...
My favourite musicals are probably:
Evita
My Fair lady
Moulin Rouge (yep, me too :))
Mo aka Mz O'Hara - November 24, 2006 05:03 PM (GMT)
ooo ooo oooo My fave musicals are
On the Town - Gene Kelly looking for love in New York whilst on a 24 hour pass with 2 of his shipmates. ...New York New York is a wonderful town.......
Oliver....oooooo just love the songs and the characters are so great with fab performances all round.
West Side Story...I love the dancing and the music - the opening scene is one of my faves ever ever in any movie, the whistling and the finger clicking from the guys as they dance around in the shadows..... :D hate the ending though, of course. :(
SerenaW19 - November 24, 2006 05:05 PM (GMT)
Gene Kelly is such an amazing dancer :D
Mo aka Mz O'Hara - November 24, 2006 05:06 PM (GMT)
ooo sorry couldn't resist...
West Side Story - Maria Lyrics
The most beautiful sound I ever heard:Maria, Maria, Maria,
Maria. All the beautiful sounds of the world in a single
word:Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria.Maria, I've just met a girl named Maria, and
suddenly the name will never be the same to me.Maria!
I've just kissed a girl named Maria. And suddenly
I've found how wonderful a sound can be.Maria, say it
loud and there's music playing.Say it soft and
it's almost like praying,Maria, I never stop saying:
"Maria!"
*sighs*

I agree.
And thes emodern so called musicals dont; have any really good dancing in them (nto to mention songs or singers! roflmao ) That scene is just so sublime and perfect, they do indeed glide.
It does annoy me when people always cite Kelly and Astaire as the greatest and overlook their partners like the legendary Ginger Roders. As she said herself "I did everything they did, only wearing heels". Wya to go girl.

The Dav - November 25, 2006 03:54 PM (GMT)
This isn't a musical per se, but it did win the Golden Globe for Best Musical so I'll include it
Walk The Line!!!

:yahoo:
dl04 - November 25, 2006 04:08 PM (GMT)
West side Story- immense
And i love Walk the Line Dav
remigro-are - November 25, 2006 08:34 PM (GMT)
Muppets' Christmas Carol! Underrated masterpiece.
timmadigan - November 27, 2006 03:32 PM (GMT)
Singing in the Rain - greatest musical!!!
Brigadoon - because I too want to go home with Bonnie Jean ;)
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers - The barn dance scene is the best ever.
Grease - just because it's the word.
High Society - Bing, Frank, Grace... hard to get better than that.
I also saw the press release of Dreamgirls - GREAT MOVIE!! I'd recommend it to anyone. Definately an Oscar contender and an award for Eddie Murphy for the James "Thunder" Early (loosely based on James Brown). He does it better than James ever could.
styeffo - November 27, 2006 03:38 PM (GMT)

styeffo - November 27, 2006 03:39 PM (GMT)

Hi :D
I forgot about Rocky Horror - I love that film!!!
timmadigan - November 27, 2006 04:20 PM (GMT)
I Love Rocky Horror but I always think of it as a SciFi movie with singing instead of a musical.
Even though I can still sing most of Riff-Raff songs/lines in time with the movie.
