Title: Nadal v Robredo

mightyjeditribble - November 15, 2006 02:07 PM (GMT)
If Nadal doesn't win this one, then I will really get concerned about his chances next year ...

Go Nads  :yahoo:

Go Nads  :yahoo:

I'd like to see Nadal go through, and play Fed, either in the semis or the final, for some real tension ...

mightyjeditribble - November 15, 2006 02:18 PM (GMT)
Robredo holds to 15 in the opening game.

mightyjeditribble - November 15, 2006 02:26 PM (GMT)
Nadal faced break point in that game, but then picked up his game and holds.

He got warned for taking too much time to serve, though.

mightyjeditribble - November 15, 2006 02:29 PM (GMT)
Another reasonably comfortable hold by Robredo there.

But then, Nadal is a slow starter.

Gav - November 15, 2006 02:29 PM (GMT)
I need Nadal to win this. I want to see how he copes against Federer if they get to play each other.....

Agreed. After Wimbledon, everyone wanted to see how Nadal and Federer would fare when they're up against each other on hardcourt; on neutral ground, as it were. That hasn't happened yet.

Robredo is playing well at the moment, though. 0-40 on Nadal's serve. :yikes:

mightyjeditribble - November 15, 2006 02:45 PM (GMT)
Robredo breaks. 4-2. :yikes:

Robredo breaks. 4-2. :yikes:

And Nadal bounces right back. 4-3, on serve.

Dinky Jo - November 15, 2006 03:00 PM (GMT)
ooooh - i'm torn on this one as well. I'd like to see nadal win so he can meet Fed at some point in this tournie, but i'd love Robredo to manage to pull off this win.....ooooh.......

mightyjeditribble - November 15, 2006 03:01 PM (GMT)
Nadal wastes two break points, and now has to hold to stay in the set.

Hmm ... don't care too much about Robredo. If Nadal loses to him, he'll really have me worried ...

sir matchstickmen - November 15, 2006 03:04 PM (GMT)
Come on Tommy - gun him down!

mightyjeditribble - November 15, 2006 03:07 PM (GMT)
Nadal holds for 5 all.

mightyjeditribble - November 15, 2006 03:09 PM (GMT)
Robredo holds: 6-5.

Looks like it's heading for a 'breaker.

mightyjeditribble - November 15, 2006 03:13 PM (GMT)
And we've got a tiebreak on our hands! Nadal gets an early mini-break. 3-0.

Gav - November 15, 2006 03:19 PM (GMT)
Come on Nadal. You could destroy this guy on clay.....!!!!

mightyjeditribble - November 15, 2006 03:21 PM (GMT)
Nadal takes the first set. :yahoo:

I don't see him losing this match now.

mightyjeditribble - November 15, 2006 03:28 PM (GMT)
Nadal breaks to love in the opening game of the second. :yahoo:

sir matchstickmen - November 15, 2006 03:30 PM (GMT)
looks like we have a davydenko-Nadal eliminator on our hands...

what a boring match that promises to be! roflmao

Sorry, I was talking nonsense. It was the second game --- so it's 2-0 to Nadal now.

My stream had frozen up, and Nadal must have whipped through his service during that time ... :badpc:

Hey, I like both Nadal and Davydenko.

mightyjeditribble - November 15, 2006 03:36 PM (GMT)
3-0 Nadal. And my livestream has died again. Perhaps I should do some work after all ...

greasepipe - November 15, 2006 03:36 PM (GMT)
It seems like Robredo is the perfect sparring partner for Nadal at this stage. Tommy was in total control till 4-2 but then suddenly he hitting UE's all over the place. Raffa is very lucky his second match isn't against Davy, now this turns out to be a confidence boost for him.
So i'm now looking at a lot of "most muscular poses" of Nadal :yikes:

mightyjeditribble - November 15, 2006 03:42 PM (GMT)
Robredo wastes three break points. The smash he missed on the first of these might haunt him if he loses ...

sir matchstickmen - November 15, 2006 03:50 PM (GMT)
Fantastic rally on the first point with it 4-2 to Nadal, Tommy threw the kitchen sink and all appliances going at him there and still lost!

mightyjeditribble - November 15, 2006 03:58 PM (GMT)
Nadal wasted to match points on Robredo's serve there. However, Nadal finally takes it on the fourth.

GSM Nadal!

sir matchstickmen - November 15, 2006 03:58 PM (GMT)
7-6 6-2 rafa wins

sir matchstickmen - November 15, 2006 03:59 PM (GMT)
it was three MP's actually, Robredo put in a sensational point at 15-40, he literally was going like a tommy gun and Nadal was still repelling the bullets!

Gav - November 15, 2006 04:06 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the updates on this guys. Nadal wins and I hope he goes on to beat Davydenko as well and get to face Roger in the semi (assuming Roger wins his group).

Gav

sir matchstickmen - November 15, 2006 04:08 PM (GMT)
Rafa should beat dour Davy

greasepipe - November 15, 2006 04:08 PM (GMT)
Stupid play of Robredo. He totally did everything to please Nadal. :tsk:
Otoh; Robredo doesn't have the ability to flatten out his shots (like Ferrero can).
And for those who've seen the match; did anyone noticed the stadium was almost empty at the end of the match? I guess the chinese do have some knowlegde bout tennis. Because this was not good at all

Robredo doesn't really have the power through the court to trouble rafa in all honesty. Davydenko makes up for that by taking the ball really early, but I don't know if he'll dare do that against Rafa's topspin

that was an exeption. Robredo played with loads of spin during the match. And he couldn't figure out Raffa started to like that. It was obvious Raffa began to realize;
"hey, this is a good old clay court match", and that gave Raffa the edge

Bout Davydenko; you can say anything you want bout this guy but he will never hold back. I'm sure his feet will be on the baseline throughout the match. But it's also clear Davydenko is not as good as he was in Paris...

He's not much fun to watch is Dour Davy - he has little chance against rafa

Davy has the charisma of a pancake, but his game is quite good. Great returns.
I agree Raffa is slight favourite, specially after todays "practice match", which brought him back on track
