So, Fed won his opener before I even got out of bed ... :bigwave:

A-Rod just broke Ljubicic in the third set! 3-1 with Andy to serve to consolidate his break. Go Andy :yahoo:

I bet Nadal was thrilled to be drawn against Blake in the very first match ... though they're both coming off injuries, so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

mightyjeditribble - November 12, 2006 09:23 AM (GMT)
Roddick breaks Ljubo again to make it 5-1 :yahoo:

Now all he needs to do is serve out the set --- and he's got two tries for it. Go A-Rod!

mightyjeditribble - November 12, 2006 09:40 AM (GMT)
GSM A-Rod 6-4 7-6(9) 6-1

:bigwave: :yahoo: :bigwave:

Hey Al :)

Yes, it is. Top 2 players to go through from each group to make up the semi finals.

Right, I wasnt sure .I remember Federer beating Agassi twice a couple of years ago !

JymJilly - November 12, 2006 12:24 PM (GMT)
Looks like Federer is supreme form the way he dismantled Nalbandian in that 1st match. He handed him another embarassing defeat. No way will Nalbandian get the better of Federer this year.
Roddick had a good win against Ljubicic and he looks in good form but I just wish he would cut out the circus clown act and stop showing off. He makes himself look like a prat. No way on this earth could he have got to that serve.
He needs to accept the umpires decision and move on. Afterall he was in a winning position.

ark_28 - November 13, 2006 08:04 AM (GMT)
Well as People have said Federer did look in amazing form after 1 st set yesterday! but I was much more happy with The Roddick win Ivan is a tough customer and the result means Andy now has a great chance I feel of making the semis.

JymJilly - November 14, 2006 12:39 PM (GMT)
I feel I need to comment on Federer's backhand today.
It has been a pleasure and a joy to watch it in action. Poetry in motion. Awesome

tullamoredeuce - November 14, 2006 03:37 PM (GMT)
Watched only the first and the third sets and feel realy gutted for missing the tie-breaker.
Credit to A-Rod for pushing Fed all the way. Top drawer tennis match.

welshboy91 - November 14, 2006 06:41 PM (GMT)
Federer

He dug himself out of a hole day. Alle Roger!

JymJilly - November 14, 2006 08:13 PM (GMT)
Doesn't he always? ;)
He would probably say . What hole? :P
Roddick had match point. He may never ever get that chance again of coming so close to beating Federer.

He had several match points (although only one on his own serve). But then, Roger also had several set points in the tenth game, on Andy's serve. So overall, there was very little in that second set for both players, and I'm not sure it would be fair to say that A-Rod 'choked'.

Big Al - November 14, 2006 09:03 PM (GMT)
Did you hear Rogers interview, how can anyone say he's arrogant.
It was nerve -wracking for us Fed fans, but I never doubted he would find a way to win . :)

scvangils - November 14, 2006 09:22 PM (GMT)
Well, congrats to Roger! I think he will eventually lose a best-of-three to Roddick, but apparently today was not the day. I still feel Roddick will never win a best-of-five. It's impossible for him to go for broke in that kind of match. eventually he'll start making mistakes. Don't forget Roddick's error count was very low today and he still lost.

The Dav - November 14, 2006 11:23 PM (GMT)
Shouldn't this thread be moved into current tournaments? :)

Dinky Jo - November 16, 2006 10:33 AM (GMT)
The Bryans have just lost their match to Hanley/Ullyet. Do they qualify or not? does anyone know.....

scvangils - November 16, 2006 10:50 AM (GMT)
They're out!

Dinky Jo - November 16, 2006 10:52 AM (GMT)
Blimey!!! that's a bit of a shock! They've been beating records and stuff this year as well - but their form more recently doesn't seem to have been so great..... :(

scvangils - November 16, 2006 01:01 PM (GMT)
Roddick is out, Ljubicic must beat Federer to qualify. a win for either player will mean they'll top the group.

scvangils - November 16, 2006 02:43 PM (GMT)
Well, Nalby's done it again and Ljubicic once again fails to qualify due to a straight sets defeat in his last RR match. It's going to be the first time Nalby and Blake meet.

sir matchstickmen - November 16, 2006 04:02 PM (GMT)
I'm very glad for Nalbandian, I don't know if you heard in the match coverage like I did about the family tragedy he is coping with at this moment on top of the tournament... :( http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/6154680.stm

hats off to you David

Indeed, it's a pity. However, they had a good year, and I hope they can build on it next season.

On the other hand, I also like to see Jonas Bjorkman do well --- go Jonas!

greasepipe - November 16, 2006 04:29 PM (GMT)
i have just listened to the interview with Davydenko:
It seems like Nadal won't have any problems with Davy. Davy said he is physically not ready for Shanghai.. :yikes:

hats off to you David

That is very sad. My heart goes out to his family at this time.

And as you say Sam, hats off to him to play so well at this time.

Right, I am now firmly behind Nalby to win this tournament.... Sorry Feds I think you are great, but sometimes things like this are the things that really matter.

Come on Nalby!!!

Elephants can fly - November 17, 2006 10:11 AM (GMT)
I'd love a Nalby - Fed final again - two players with fantastic shotmaking ability and feel for the court :D

Nick Havoc - November 17, 2006 03:49 PM (GMT)
Pretty quiet on here this morning . . .

Of course, the Nadal match is over and the Blake/Robredo match has very little meaning (except in prize money and points), so I suppose it's not surprising. Anybody following that match, though? Last I saw it was a set each.

Dinky Jo - November 17, 2006 04:25 PM (GMT)
well - robredo won.......but i'd guess that Blake wasn't overly bothered about putting too much effort in.

This is my biggest issue with the RR format - that match was pointless, and thus didn't actually generate any interest - which i thought was supposed to be the point of the new format. I mean, if Robredo had really wanted to he could have just pulled out of that match surely - claiming fatigue????

Plus there was the issue yesterday of whether federer would throw the match to avoid nadal.....

i can see there being numerous problems with this new format

liam_valid - November 18, 2006 02:58 PM (GMT)
Blake takes the first set off Nal-baddie-un :P GO BLAKE :yahoo:

liam_valid - November 18, 2006 03:06 PM (GMT)
A set and a break up for Blake. Bring it on Fed :P

LDF - November 18, 2006 03:09 PM (GMT)
I can't see Federer losing to Blake though

6-4, 6-1 Great stuff from the great man

JymJilly - November 18, 2006 03:51 PM (GMT)
Great Tennis from Blake.
I can't see him beating Federer though. Especially on Federers form .
Nalbandian has a serious perspiration problem hasn't he
In some of his matches he looks positively unfit

I agree Jill, but ive become a huge Blake fan recently and i want him to avenge Tims GS defeats to Fed this year (seeing as the USA and GB seem to stick up for each other a lot nowadays). GO BLAKE :yahoo:

JymJilly - November 18, 2006 04:04 PM (GMT)
Yep.
I am torn here. I really like Blake and I think his game is fantastic and he has improved an awful lot this year or so.
It would be nice to see the under dog win. On the other hand it is even better to see history being made and records being broken. It would be a fitting end to Federers fantastic year if he won on Sunday. I also reckon Blake is in awe of Federer . Too much so that even if he played his very best Tennis it will probabaly cost him the match.
Federer in 4 I think.
And next year I expect Federer to dominate even more. I think he has Nadals number now and I think he will really challenge him on the clay. He will probabaly win the F.O next year I think.

welshboy91 - November 18, 2006 04:09 PM (GMT)
Blake

I just can't see him beting Fed though

mightyjeditribble - November 18, 2006 04:19 PM (GMT)
I'm glad for Blake, though I do feel sorry for Nalbandian after the tragedy of his cousin dying a few days ago.

I only saw the second set, and Nalbandian really didn't look like he had a chance. Compared to the quality of the previous match, I can't see Federer losing. I hope Blake takes it to him though, as he did in the USO, and makes it a bit exciting by taking at least a set off him. I can't really picture this going to five though, let alone Blake winning.

scolios - November 18, 2006 04:25 PM (GMT)
God, how I wish I could SEE these matches :( Will anyone be doing comments on the final tomorrow? I believe it's at 8 a.m. BST so probably not!!

JymJilly - November 18, 2006 04:31 PM (GMT)
I will probabaly be up. I don't usually lie in unless its a heavy night out the night before. ;)
