Title: Roddick V Monflis
ark_28 - May 11, 2006 09:28 PM (GMT)
I think this is tough to call Roddick seems to be finding some form and has won their previous match but this is on Clay where Monflis is comfortable because Im a huge A Rod fan Im going to say A Rod in two tight sets but I have a horrible feeling it maybe be the other way around!
timmadigan - May 11, 2006 09:31 PM (GMT)
Although I'd prefer to see Andy win, I suspect Monfils will take it in 3 sets.

Ark, Roddick seems to be recovering his form (judging by this week's results), but so does Monfils. I think I'm going to go with him (I'm thinking of the predictions contest on the Beeb!)
manojavm - May 12, 2006 09:46 AM (GMT)
Monfils will win easily in two sets...
Nick Havoc - May 12, 2006 07:04 PM (GMT)
This one's about to start!! Any last-minute predictions??
Nick Havoc - May 12, 2006 07:13 PM (GMT)
Roddick holds to 30 to start the match.
welshboy91 - May 12, 2006 07:16 PM (GMT)
i think Gael will win on clay
LDF - May 12, 2006 07:17 PM (GMT)
3 break points for Monfils!
LDF - May 12, 2006 07:18 PM (GMT)
And he breaks, thanks to a backhand error by Roddick. 2-1 to Monfils.

3-1 to Monfils (saving a break point), and now he's 30-15 up on Andy's serve.
I'm finding it very difficult to get into this match...
LDF - May 12, 2006 07:27 PM (GMT)
Roddick sends a forehand long, and Monfils has a 4-1 lead (double break!).
Nick Havoc - May 12, 2006 07:29 PM (GMT)
Monfils certainly seems to be dominating in the early going.
LDF - May 12, 2006 07:29 PM (GMT)
Trainer on for Roddick...he said something's hurting on his serve and forehands. Somewhere near his shoulder.
Nick Havoc - May 12, 2006 07:44 PM (GMT)
Roddick got one break back, but then quickly found him self 0-40 down on his serve. Clawed back to deuce, but ultimately got broken again . . .
5-2

'Evening all,
I thought that A-Rod might shade this, but it looks like Gael is prevaling..
All ok with Roddick?
petalp - May 12, 2006 07:56 PM (GMT)
It's oh so quiet in here..?
Has the game ground to a halt? Is A-Rod taking a break getting some treatment or something??
Nick Havoc - May 12, 2006 07:58 PM (GMT)
It's 6-2, 2-0 at the moment. Looking good for Monfils, not so for Andy.

Nope, Monfils is 2-0 up in the 2nd set, and it's Ad-Roddick on Andy's serve...
petalp - May 12, 2006 08:03 PM (GMT)
Cheers.. :) also accessed the Masters site to check out the score.
Is Gael playing well? Or Andy remembering that he doesn't like clay..?
petalp - May 12, 2006 08:07 PM (GMT)
Just checking out the stats. Wow, Roddick being broken 4 times out of 6 service games?? Wow, that must be a bit of a rarity, surely?
Nick Havoc - May 12, 2006 08:15 PM (GMT)
It's pretty much been a slaughter . . . :hide:
LDF - May 12, 2006 08:16 PM (GMT)
Monfils failed to serve it out at 5-2, so it's Roddick serving at 3-5...
Nick Havoc - May 12, 2006 08:16 PM (GMT)
But I see Roddick just broke to stay in the match. Serving at 3-5.
LDF - May 12, 2006 08:19 PM (GMT)

GSM Monfils, 6-2 6-3.
What a horrible backhand slice to end it - right in the bottom of the net...
petalp - May 12, 2006 08:21 PM (GMT)
Wow! GSM Monfils! And it did'nt even look close, judging by the scoreboard..
petalp - May 12, 2006 08:22 PM (GMT)
So, 3 of the 4 players that most people would have picked for the semis have made it..
petalp - May 12, 2006 08:23 PM (GMT)
Based on what you saw of Monfils in this match, do you think that the semi with Rafa might be a good match up? They are peers, and may have some history, maybe..

Definitely - Monfils was moving extremely well, and hitting the ball sweetly off both wings tonight (particularly the forehand, his main weapon). If he can reproduce this from he should prove to be a good test for Nadal - I wonder if he can stay patient during the inevitable long rallies though...

welshboy91 - May 13, 2006 10:24 AM (GMT)
Congratulations Gael for breaking Rod's serve 5 times
welshboy91 - May 13, 2006 10:24 AM (GMT)
the serve didnt seem to have as much penetration as normal
