Title: Jana Novotna to answer CC's questions
Description: Whoo-Hoo!
trisco - November 6, 2006 09:37 PM (GMT)
So yeah,
Looks like the 1998 Ladies Wimbledon Singles Champion will be answering our questions!
I gave them a list of players but I guess the other ones are busy at the mo as they are all current players. I'm not sayin Jana isn't busy but I guess she can make a bit of time for us which is GREAT! :lol:2
I secretly wanted it to be Jana as she is my all time fave ladies player. B)2
So guys... I guess you need to put your questions forward as I think they are on a tight timescale and the mail says "hope to have them answered by the end of the week"
so get 'em in. Shall we say by 6pm GMT Wednesday?
B)2

Jana Novotna?! :o
Great work trisco! :D
Maybe I'll ask her what it was like losing against Lindsay at Wimbledon in 1999 ;) roflmao
SerenaW19 - November 6, 2006 09:45 PM (GMT)
Wow Jana
I had no idea it would be anyone that big :D
That's great :yahoo:
She made a controversial comment I believe a while ago about the competition being greater in 1998 than now, so it would be great if she could elaborate on that at all :D
I'll have to come up with a good question.
I am disappointed it's not Serena though, I would've thought that she'd have the most time on her hands roflmao
liam_valid - November 6, 2006 09:47 PM (GMT)

The Dav - November 6, 2006 09:48 PM (GMT)

trisco - November 6, 2006 09:50 PM (GMT)
Anyone a member of WTAworld? Maybe let the guys on there know they need to join up to us and they can ask her a question? lol
SerenaW19 - November 6, 2006 09:52 PM (GMT)
I think we may have a couple of WTAworld closet cases here ;)
The Dav - November 6, 2006 09:52 PM (GMT)
Alright, since I'm going tonight I'll give in my question now :D
From 'Dav', tell her it's me roflmao
Hi Jana! Loving your work :D What do you think of Lindsay Davenport? Did you enjoy playing against her? Was she difficult for you to play? Do you think she could have achieved more? Do you think she can win another Grand Slam?
Thanks Jana! :D
liam_valid - November 6, 2006 10:04 PM (GMT)
Hi Trisco, can i ask 'Jana, you have a 5-1 H2H against Mary Pierce. Did you find it easy to play against her with her slow serving and dramatics, or did her game simply suit yours?'
Thanks :)
Nick Havoc - November 6, 2006 10:10 PM (GMT)
Great! Send her a big Thank You on all our behalf. Here are a couple things I'd be curious to ask her:
The stabbing incident with Monica Seles was a terrible thing and still leaves questions in people's minds about what Monica would have achieved if that had not happened. Was it difficult continuing in that tournament after the incident? How much did it affect you personally and the tour in general from then on?
You partnered a lot of other great champions in doubles. Did you have a favourite partner? What does it take to make a successful doubles pairing?
trisco - November 6, 2006 10:12 PM (GMT)
Cheers Dav, Nick and Liam, that's got the ball rolling.
And Dav, I'm sure she'll refer to you as "The" as I guest you are both on first name terms now movingin the circles you do! lol
C'mon guys get 'em in. We wanna put in a good showing as only got until Wednesday evening to put them forward.
:lol:2

Nick Havoc - November 6, 2006 10:18 PM (GMT)
If she follows mens tennis, you could ask for her take on the great weak era debate. :D

lol. Nice idea Nick! :ok:
SerenaW19 - November 6, 2006 10:21 PM (GMT)
Ok, here's mine :)
Jana, first of all could I say how much I have enjoyed watching you as a player, and how skilled I think you are. Always a joy to watch, plenty of classics :)
But as a huge Serena Williams fan, I note that you have only met once and that Serena won in a tight 3 setter. I would like to ask you, can you remember much about that match? And why was she so difficult to defeat? What parts of your game did she struggle with most? And in what ways has she improved in recent years to become the grand slam champion she now is? Or perhaps more aptly what does she need to do, to get back to the slam champion she once was? Thanks.

roflmao roflmao roflmao you creep ;) I must say, i never liked her play (escpecially with that H2H against Mary  )
The Dav - November 6, 2006 10:32 PM (GMT)
Will Jana get any questions about her own career, or will they all be 'What do you think of Lindsay, Kim, Mary, Maria, Serena, Martina, Venus?' roflmao
chokapova - November 6, 2006 10:33 PM (GMT)
I have one :D
Jana, Russian and East European players seem to be doing really well on the WTA tour now, how have things changed for young players from these countries today than when you started playing tennis for Czechoslovakia? Thanks
I don't think Jana will want to talk much about Lindsay, Dav and LDF, not with that head to head roflmao
The Dav - November 6, 2006 10:35 PM (GMT)
That's a good question choka :ok:

I really wanted to ask her what she thinks of that b***h Maria but I don't think Trisco would ask that? roflmao
Selesfan - November 6, 2006 11:53 PM (GMT)
I like Dav's question, but I'll ask this.
Jana, after losing that 1993 final to Graf, how releieved did you feel to win the 1998 Championship? In regards to Monica, the two of you have an even head to head record. What ws it about the both of your games that made this so even, and do you think that Monica will ever be back on tour?
Queen Justine - November 7, 2006 12:48 AM (GMT)
I've got a question for Jana!
Jana
What current player(s) on the tour at the moment do you think plays most like you when you won Wimbledon and were in the main tour? I think Justine Henin-Hardenne, but who do you think?
Love watching you play doubles at Wimbledon Jana ... I also cried when you finally won Wimbledon!
Russiafan - November 7, 2006 03:10 AM (GMT)
Jana! No way!
I would ask her how she feels about Martina after all those bitchy comments Martina made after ending their tennis relationship. And if she has considered doing a Navratilova and returning to doubles as she was such a skilfull doubles player.
PierceCheng - November 7, 2006 04:59 AM (GMT)
Jana, can you tell me how to contact with you please?
ObL!v!0N - November 7, 2006 08:16 AM (GMT)
I'm gonna ask her 'Who is the best one-slam wonder?' roflmao
welshboy91 - November 7, 2006 08:18 AM (GMT)
When I saw Novotna at Wimbledon, she looked very good
Great work Trisco
Dinky Jo - November 7, 2006 09:08 AM (GMT)
well done trisco- that's amazing!!!!!!!
I don't think i really have a question 'cos i don't follow women's tennis much, and wasn't much of a tennis fan when she was playing.....
but it's still amazing
styeffo - November 7, 2006 09:31 AM (GMT)
Hows about:
"Jana seeing as how you have such a close H2H with Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, who i thought was a great competitor , how much did you enjoy playing her?"
OR
"Who are you glad that you have never played or are happy not to have to play again?"
9mmSuzi - November 7, 2006 10:03 AM (GMT)
Good job Trisco.... :)
I want to ask Jana her opinion on the fact that some people think she chokes up inexplicably when it would have been so much easier to win ( :) I still think she is a wonderful player) ..and if there is any match-up or tourney she regrets not winning or feels she should have won but it ended being one of those forgetful days :) .. Did the wimbledon win lay any ghosts to rest for her personally???
Please...please please Trisco ask her !!!!
RT. - November 7, 2006 12:20 PM (GMT)
I've got a couple of questions :
"What do you think are the reasons for the lack of serve&volley players in both mens and womens tennis today ?"
"Considering her over-reliance on the slice backhand, I would have thought that Steffi Graf would have had a lot of trouble playing against a great serve&volley player like you. What was it about her game that made it so difficult for you to beat her ?"
dl04 - November 7, 2006 03:15 PM (GMT)
Trisc, you legend, Jana was such an amazing talent and the most hillarious tennis personality  :D
Could i ask her a question?
Jana, how do you feel your game would match up now against this huge brand of hitters, eg Venus, Sharapova, Vaidisova etc and who would you most like to play in this particular era?
thanks dl04 :D
welshboy91 - November 7, 2006 05:43 PM (GMT)
Questions for her:
Who were her best friends on tour?
Why does she think Eastern European countries are produceing masses of fine players? [abit similar to chokas ]
Who would be here ideal doubles partner?
SuperBRAT - November 7, 2006 06:02 PM (GMT)
Here's mine if it's nto too late
Jana - Women tennis has changed a lot, and we hardly have any great serve volleyers in the game like yourself and Martina anymore, which is sad. :( It seems to be dominated by baseline power hitters. What are your views about the styles of play in women's tennis at the moment in this respect and are there any changes that you would like to see? And which current players' game styles do you you like?
And/or
Injury is much more prolific on the WTA tour than it used to be. What do you think the reasons for this are and what should be done about it if anything?
Thanks :)
Btw Trisco please tell Jana that her Wimbeldon victory was one fo my fave tennis moments ever, so glad she finally got what she deserved and I am a huge fan :D
petalp - November 7, 2006 07:55 PM (GMT)
A few questions for Jana:
During your singles career, who did you enjoy playing against the most, in terms of pushing you to bring out your best game?
It was good to see you picking up another wimbledon title this year in the doubles! What aspects do you enjoy most about playing in the more senior events? Are there things that the main tour could learn from the way that this is run?
Many Thanks!
trisco - November 7, 2006 08:47 PM (GMT)
Thanks for all the questions so far guys. One more day to get them so anyone who hasn't do so quickly!
:D2:
Big Al - November 7, 2006 10:44 PM (GMT)
Heres mine :
Jana, do you think that a longer grass court season would be good for the game ,with a bigger gap between the French and Wimbledon?
TennisMenace - November 8, 2006 03:59 AM (GMT)
Perhaps a bit predictable, but...
With a career clashing with great players like Graf and Navratilova, who do you consider to be the best you ever faced and why? Doubles and singles if different...
Also, What shot would you most like to have stolen from an opponent and made your own?
sir matchstickmen - November 8, 2006 09:43 AM (GMT)
What did it feel like when you finally won wimbledon?
