Title: Fed-worship
Description: The thread for Fed lovers!

mightyjeditribble - October 27, 2006 10:12 AM (GMT)
I think Federer worship deserves its own thread. So if you feel you need a quick worship, feel free to do so here!

As a reminder to all of us, here are the 10 commandments of Fed-worship:

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS of the church of Federer

1. Thou shalt have no other #1 before thy Fed.
2. Thou shalt not serve for the match in vain.
3. Remember the Grand Slam dates, to keep them holy.
4. Honor thy Sampras and thy Laver.
5. Thou shalt not double-fault.
6. Thou shalt not commit unforced errors.
7. Thou shalt not break thy Fed's serve.
8. Thou shalt not bear false line-calls against thy Fed.
9. Thou shalt not doubt thy Fed, even at the French.
10. Thou shalt not troll.

Also remember that true Fed-worshippers always have their
Federer masks at the ready!

Now the next step is to get Fed-worship taught as an alternative to evolution in Kansas schools ...

Alright, let's have a bit before I'm back to work ...

No, seeing the continous and repetitive posts by the likes of chetanpv, this would probably generate one of the most exciting threads on the BBC in a long time, which shows just how bad the BBC at the moment.

Oh, really? For some reason I thought it would be open a bit longer. OK, so perhaps it is time to move this to the BBC ... but I've got to do some work first, so perhaps later tonight.

Dinky Jo - October 27, 2006 04:06 PM (GMT)
Ok, i mis-remembered - i remembered reading november but it actually closes end of november i think. we have a bit more time then....can plan more dasterdly deeds

mightyjeditribble - October 27, 2006 05:00 PM (GMT)
Fed won the first set 6-3 against Ferrer.

I'd like to be able to watch this, but have to do some more work, and am then going for dinner with my colleagues. Anyway, a bit of worship is in order.

:bigwave:  :bigwave:

mightyjeditribble - October 27, 2006 05:43 PM (GMT)
I got tricked into watching the end of the match, thinking it would be a quick affair.

Instead, I was treated to a killer of a tiebreaker! Ferrer had about six set points, I think, half of them on his own serve :yikes:. However, Roger finally took it 16:14.

 :bigwave:

Dinky Jo - October 27, 2006 05:44 PM (GMT)
Yaaaay!!! Go Fed!!!!

Though, that's a bit of a mighty tie-break

Absolutely! Will you start it, DinkyJo - but PLEASE send me a PM to let me know when it's starting and then I'll do my best to join it. And ALL of us should join in - SWAMP the board :yahoo:

But what the hell do we do if he doesn't (oh horror) win Basel?!!! And then there's Paris. It should ideally start after Paris - whether he wins it or not.

scolios - October 27, 2006 05:59 PM (GMT)
We need to find out WHEN the beeb is closing down. I got the impression it was at the end of November but it would be just like the b*****s to do it earlier to preempt any kind of action like ours.

drakey01 - October 27, 2006 06:02 PM (GMT)
I think a bit more Fed-worship is needed after he came through that tie break
   :bigwave:

I would love to see the reactions to a worship thread on the beeb, shame they don't have the worshipping smiley!

Dinky Jo - October 27, 2006 06:48 PM (GMT)
I checked up and it says end of november. I think maybe we should start it after paris for sure......

I'd like to point out that i have never really fed the trolls at all on the BBC, and i hate to be seen as the ring leader of this evil plot....but i think i should be allowed to have a little fun with them before the board closes.

Nick Havoc - October 27, 2006 06:51 PM (GMT)
I'm with you, Dinky. I have generally avoided "feeding the trolls", except when I could post some clear data that contradicted them. (Usually got no response to such posts. ;)) But since the board is closing in a month, anyway, it's not like there is anything to try to save, now . . .

Dinky Jo - October 27, 2006 06:56 PM (GMT)
ah nick - don't lie - i've seen you prodding 'em a few times..... ;)

I never posted on any troll thread apart from one which mediter said something about "transitional swiss" and "Transitional Federer" just 'cos it made me :giggle:

I figure considering how little i posted on that board i'm not worried if i get banned for spamming or whatever. or i might just do a Pebs and rip in to them..... :)

petalp - October 27, 2006 07:50 PM (GMT)
Ooh.. a fed-worshipping thread?! :o

About time, too!!! roflmao

All hail the champ!! Maybe he continue his winning ways (but of course be challenged (mostly) at the same time to bring out some cracking tennis ;) )

Re: thread on the beeb.. absolutely up for that. I don't feed the pondlife either, but to go after them would be fun... :ok:

For some reason, I pictured you as a Baghdatis fan, Brakkus.

Actually, I'd like to see Baghdatis gain some consistency and challenge a bit more. I really gained a lot of respect for him in that US Open battle with Agassi.

I love my sport Nick and have been watching since Borg&Mac.I like a lot of players, but the disrepect shown to Federer is ignorance.

I would love to see Baggy stay in the top10,he's done well, but has been a little bit poor towards the end of the season.

Nick Havoc - October 27, 2006 09:38 PM (GMT)
Did you get to watch the Agassi v. Baghdatis match at the US Open? You could tell Marcos was really cramping up bad late in the match. A lot of players would have given up at that point. He could barely move for a while. Of course, it wasn't the highest level of tennis, because he was having leg cramps and Agassi was struggling with his back, but both guys showed a lot of heart in battling through it.

Anyway, this was supposed to be a Fed-worship thread . . . . roflmao And I agree with you on that. Fed may not be my favourite player, but it's stupid the way those guys keep hammering on and on about him being rubbish. I think that is part of what lead to the closing of the boards. It wasn't just the tennis board, but the boards in general. I don't think they had the staff to adequately moderate the boards, and probably weren't going to get the budget to hire an adequate staff, so they gave up on it.

Brakkus - October 27, 2006 09:49 PM (GMT)
Yeah Nick, baggy was so humourous about the situation which is what I love about him.He brings great personality to the game(what we need).A finalist at the AO&semi at Wimbledon. How many guys on the tour have done that well in slams this year considering Federer's dominance?

On the BBC board,it just reached ridiculous levels. The common sense got lost as you can still have your own opinions without it descending into a farce. This is the problem, the posts toward Federer became ill-informed.

Anyway like you Agassi is one of my all time favourites,as he kind of has been the player I've grown up with.He now has a family like myself, kind of identify with him a bit,if that makes sense.

Oh, I like Baggy too.. great guy, good personality to have on the tour, and a very good player.. here's hoping that he continues to develop..

Onwards and upwards for baggy!! :D

mightyjeditribble - October 27, 2006 10:18 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I'm up for a Fed-worship thread, naturally ... ;)

I always try to not feed the trolls, except when I can pull their leg about something other than tennis ... they're immune to any reasonable arguments about tennis, but you can make fun of them on so many other levels, without having to be serious about it themselves ...

I particularly like making fun of their poor Grammar / spelling, considering they are supposed to be native speakers and I'm not ...

So how about when/if Fed wins Basel? He'll pass the 8000 points barrier, so that's surely a reason to worship!

I also like Baghdatis. Do you remember that moment in the match against Agassi --- third set, I think --- when I think a netchord went against him, and he just fell to his knees and kissed the cross around his neck? I thought he showed tremendous spirit, and that's when he started coming back into the match ...

I agree. I think we should all, here on Centre Court, go back for a day, and start good posts and all be there, and nopt allow chetanpv etc... to dominate. Give him a taste of his own medicine.

I always like your replies, 'cos you obviously don't take them too seriously.

Maybe all of us could start threads at about the same time saying how amazing Fed is, and then pop up on each other's thread saying "amazing factual analysis" make sure they constantly get bumped to the top, and actually ignore the trolls threads for once.....and any comments they choose to make.....

I think maybe we start after the Paris masters - season ending, fed rules supreme all that stuff....
