Title: Anybody else think Murray is a wuss
JymJilly - October 21, 2006 07:56 PM (GMT)
For declaring today he may skip Basle and Paris as he is mentally shot?
After his first year on the main ATP tour. Mentally he is finding it hard to cope he said. He also said he has nothing to gain.
WHAT. Who is he kidding? He has much to gain . And I for one am appalled at his attitude. Its pure laziness. If the old guys can still hack it why cant he. He is 19 for goodness sake . He shoud be able to go all day.
If he want success he will have to work for it I am afraid and that means touring for 11 months of the year.
The latest news however is that he has had a change of heart and now he is going to play Basle.

Is that right Nadal is calling time on the last two tournaments also?

I hope the top 10 stay fit cos we dont want another master cup like last year now, do we? (of course we dont! We want fed to win! ;) )
JymJilly - October 22, 2006 06:29 PM (GMT)
Of course we do
Well I might say Nadal is a wuss if he pulls out of Paris ;)
Of course ideally I would like Tim Henman to win the Masters Cup. But I suppose Federer will do instead  roflmao

He is a bit isn't he.
Look at poor Bjorkman doing a full calendar at age 34. And he is 19. :tsk:
Not good enough.

Check out Guillermo Vilas's stats for 1977. A left-handed baseliner Vilas' best season on tour was 1977 when he not only won two of the four majors but also 16 of the 31 ATP tournaments he entered (absolute record in the Open Era), a record which at the time had only ever been equaled by the legendary Rod Laver. His playing record for that season was an amazing 145 wins against 14 losses (ATP win-loss record was 128-14). The season climax was winning the last US Open played at Forest Hills against Jimmy Connors 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-0 in a match where Vilas surprised his American rival by attacking the net.
He had 46 winning streak in any surfaces (current record) and consecutively won 7 titles - Kitzbuhel (Clay), Washington (Clay), Louisville (Hard), South Orange (Hard), Columbus (Hard), U.S. Open (Clay) and Paris (Clay) after Wimbledon in 1977. He also had 53 winning streak in claycourt (including both ATP and unofficial tournaments, record eventually broken by Rafael Nadal in 2006).
Murray tired, more like lazy.I like him a lot,but he needs a better attitude as Gilbert says he's gonna work him super hard in the off-season.

murray quitting the season
19 and he's tired, give me a break. Sharapova is 19 and playing well into the season. Its not as though Murray has been winning titles all year is it?
Get a grip Murray

I couldnt agree more.
God God I remember Bjorn Borg winning the French Open , Stella artois then Wimbledon. Its pathetic . Where is that last push to end the season on a high. He could so easily. And he is potentially mssing out on an awful lot of prize money.

Now, Now Jill. Leave the poor boy alone.
Unlike in 1977, players have to do a ton of sponsorship work so they can make their $1M+ in non-playing money. That and all the parties they attend just wears them out, leaving little for tennis.
That said, a few things to look at:
- travel between tournaments (is it farther?)
- are they playing more non-tournament tennis (davis cup and such)?
- Does the extra practice needed to deal with the higher speeds take its toll?

Tim I like sarcasm roflmao What a shame the Tennis gets in the way of partying
Travel between tournaments. Is it farther.?
Do you mean the U.S is a lot further away than it used to be roflmao
Sorry couldnt resist ;)

More like - the tournaments aren't closer together in distance than before - you may do one in the US, then to China, then back to the US, then to the Middle East, then the UK, then Australia and so forth.
Before it use to be US, UK, Middle East, China, Australia back to the US. More of a flow then just jetting around.
Or is my memory getting faulty?

According to someone on the BBC site Murray has withdrawn from Basel with a throat infection.
Does anyone know if this is true, and more to the point, does anyone believe him??

This is the guy who limped out of RG this year, everyone wondered whether he would be ok for SW19, and was then promptly playing a doubles match at RG just a couple of days later?
Yip, I would definitely take his comments with a large crate of salt, along with pretty much with most of the stuff that he says..
