Title: The one that got away.

Selesfan - October 20, 2006 10:06 AM (GMT)
Many players have three Slams, where, obviously, there is one Slam that eludes them.

French Open:
Martina Hingis
Lindsay Davenport

Wimbledon:
Monica Seles
Justine Henin-Hardenne
Hana Mandlikova

U.S Open:
Evonne Goolagong

Out of these, obviously, except Evonne and Hanna, is the most likely to win that elusive fourth Slam they need to complete their "Career Slam"?

I have to say martina. Are there any of note that I left off the list

Australian Open- venus!!!

Could've won in both 02 and 03 but admittedly lost to an inspired Seles in 02, but could've put Serena way in 03 :(

I agree, but this is only for players that have already won 3. Venus could have definitely won that 2003 Australian open final. :)

I agree with Oblivion here. I think that Martina wuill defintely win the French Open next year.

SuperBRAT - October 21, 2006 05:06 PM (GMT)
I'd say JHH. She is perfectly capable of winning on any surface, and is good on grass. Just depend son the competition and her health really, but definitely the best chance of that lot. Most fo them are finished anyway, and Hingis - well I dont; think she will win a slam again, not based on what i saw this year anyway. If she can keep her focus and improve her ability to cope with power, then why not. :)

iconalex - October 22, 2006 02:20 PM (GMT)
I'd say JHH is the most likely to get the one that got away, but Hingis has a chance at winning the French, if she improves her game some more.

SerenaW19 - October 22, 2006 03:39 PM (GMT)
Id say Justine is most likely. Especially if the Williams sister vacate the tour and with Dav's retirement looming she will be one of the favs.

Hingis at the French. I don't see why not; she's more likely to win the FO than Seles win Wimbeldon.

ObL!v!0N - October 22, 2006 03:57 PM (GMT)
why is seles on that list?

I'd probably say Hingis, coz I think she can win on clay in this era, as she won a Tier I title, and she had a great chance this year, but illness and bad scheduling ruined her chance. I think Henin's best chance for Wimbledon was this year, because if the bigger hitters find consistency by Wimbledon, they will be very tough to beat, and with Henin struggling with injuries a lot, it could scupper her chances.

Monica ison the list because I wrote it, andshe is my favourite player of all time, and I am still clinging to the hope she can return.
