Title: Hopman Cup

The Dav - October 19, 2006 03:13 PM (GMT)
Just so this forum isn't empty, we can talk about the Hopman Cup in here :D

Venus Williams and Nadia Petrova lead the way, go USA ;)

SerenaW19 - October 19, 2006 03:24 PM (GMT)
Ye go Venus

If she could beat Nadia that would be excellent for her confidence. I hope she gets injuries out the way in the off season to get ready to jump into form

Russiafan - October 19, 2006 03:27 PM (GMT)
I wonder which nation I'll be rooting for :P

SerenaW19 - October 19, 2006 03:33 PM (GMT)

dl04 - October 24, 2006 01:35 PM (GMT)

vivahate - October 24, 2006 02:45 PM (GMT)

ObL!v!0N - November 2, 2006 03:02 PM (GMT)
I wanted GB to do Henman/Keothavong, they so would have won :(
I'll support the aussies

GS2 - December 21, 2006 08:42 AM (GMT)
Bad news for DL - Venus has pulled out of the Hopman Cup. Replaced by Ashley Harkleroad so the USA won't be winning then!

Ongoing wrist problem apparently.

Germany have also pulled out to be replaced by France. Golovin will be playing - it will be interesting to see if she can put her injuries behind her and show some of her great (if inconsistent) 2006 form.

Sportsrep - December 21, 2006 10:29 AM (GMT)
Shame for Venus, does this make her doubtful for the AO?

Tursunov and Petrova should be favourites for Hopman, I’d have thought.

SerenaW19 - December 21, 2006 12:55 PM (GMT)
I think Venus' entire career is looking a little doubtful at the moment Sportsrep :(

However, as a fan I can only be optomistic and hope that she has withdrawn as more of a precautionary measure so that she will have enough time to heal in time for the AO; although to be honest I would rather she didn't play it at all if she wasn't fully fit, rather than go there and aggravate something else. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. A real shame though :(

I think we saw this coming, didn't we :( That wrist didn't appear to have healed during the McDonald's tour (Even if she managed to beat Serena twice roflmao ), I hope she makes Melbourne, but it's looking doubtful :(

India suprisingly got the better of Czech Republic (what's happening with Safarova!?)

Ancic should really have beaten Robredo but otherwise pretty easy for Spain.

Another loss for Tursanov but Petrova keeps the Russian's heads above water.

France vs Australia currently ongoing. Golovin has just taken the first set 7-5 against Molik. France really needs to win this opening match in order to have a chance of taking the tie I would have thought.

GS2 - January 2, 2007 12:22 PM (GMT)
Golovin wins 7-5, 6-2.

Philippoussis retires with a knee injury (again!) while 1-4 down in his singles match which puts the Aussie's out of this I assume.

All goes down to the France v Russia match!

The Dav - January 6, 2007 06:01 PM (GMT)
Russia won this btw :D

SerenaW19 - January 6, 2007 06:05 PM (GMT)
