Does anyone have any ideas on how to market a book?

If you do, please write them here!

I'm afraid i'm nowhere near that stage yet. If you google for Writing Magazine, there's a forum there that might help - i once interviewed a few published authors there.

Thank you! I'm fixing to go check that out.

I googled "writer magazine", and I didn't find it. Could you give me the name of the web site?

I'm a newbie to this site, trying to market some of my self-published books. Here are some tips:

Get a website and market it there

Get myspace and market it there

Send an email to all your friends

If you think your book can add to a greater good, then send letters or emails to well known authors or figures in the field that is relevant to your book, and ask them to write reviews, recommendations, forewords. Then put the reviews and recommendations on your cover.

Network, network. Get to know the influential people first. If you can get them to suggest the book, then you're up for success.

Keep trying. If you get negative feedback, try to think if it can be useful to you. If so, use it. If not, move on. keep going. Persistance is the key.

I'm sure there are plenty of other steps you can take. I am still in the planning phase and am far from a bestseller. But one thing I do know: stay at it. Even if you have to beg your parents to be the first to buy your book, so be it. Good luck! I'm curious to see what kind of other tips people come up with!
