Title: Why do you write?
Description: And be honest!

The Thought Fox - December 7, 2005 11:58 AM (GMT)
We've had variations of what do you write and how do you write, but how about this: Why do you write?

I write because i want to come up with a world or story that I can share with everyone. I want to create some sort of memorable adventure. Plus, I'd like to be published and get rich, but it's mainly the world-sharing thing. If i make it as a writer, I want to offer my world to other writers so that they can write stories set in my universe because I know how annoying it can be to come up with one.

linguaXmachina - December 7, 2005 04:43 PM (GMT)
*scoffs* Because the voices TELL me to, obviously...gosh...

No actually its because I get all these ideas from watching anime and movies and such. I end up having all these storylines and fightscenes playing over and over in my head and I just need to get them out, and that's the honest truth -_- .

(LAST TWO FINALS TODAY!! THEN I'M FREE!! I'm effing selling my books, which should get me like...$70 bucks at least, AND BUYING CD's!)
:P :D ;) ^_^

i write when i feel there is too much emotion building up inside of me, theres days when i feel like really "depressed" and write a really heartfelt piece,

but mainly i write fanfic, because im a fan of that particular tv programme, film, book, etc.

im not good enough to have my own book published, btu maybe one on animals when i graduate and work with orangutans and pandas, and be liek cahrlotte uhlenbroek!!!!

aleana15 - December 10, 2005 06:39 PM (GMT)
I like creating characters (the plot is a lot more difficult)and in a way writing is similar to reading - it allows you to escape into another world.

If someone wanted to publish my stories then that would be great, but I'm not planning on writing as a career. Its just fun ^_^

DragonLady4 - December 12, 2005 09:20 PM (GMT)
the characters in my head want their stories to be told

no joke.

linguaXmachina - December 13, 2005 01:16 AM (GMT)
lol amen.

The Thought Fox - December 14, 2005 01:09 PM (GMT)
The worrying thing is, she really isn't joking.

The voices....speak...

I have at least 5 lots of characters with stories going on IN my head.

ACK!

The Thought Fox - December 15, 2005 10:36 AM (GMT)
Do they intermingle like love actually, or are they five separate stories?

I wonder if anyone has written a story about a character who realises they're just a voice in someone's head...

DragonLady4 - December 15, 2005 05:14 PM (GMT)
no, they don't.

But I wanted to write one with all the older mages from Star in it.

Never really got a storyline though, just thought I would follow Diozar around. Its a bunny, as they say.

RaptureTaylore - December 15, 2005 05:28 PM (GMT)
a bunny?

The Thought Fox - December 16, 2005 09:33 AM (GMT)
Do we really want to know what a bunny is?

RaptureTaylore - December 17, 2005 06:56 PM (GMT)
possibly....Im getting worried now...

DragonLady4 - December 19, 2005 08:44 PM (GMT)
a bunny is an idea for a story! Geez!

The Thought Fox - December 21, 2005 01:13 PM (GMT)
So who exactly is this 'they' that say it?

RaptureTaylore - December 22, 2005 04:37 PM (GMT)
Ive never heard it before

DL4 are you making this up?

aleana15 - February 21, 2006 09:56 PM (GMT)
I've been stuggerling lately to come up with inpsiration for stories...or the inspiration at write at all quite frankly. Its really annoying. I'm hoping that soon I'll get a sudden drive and will write solid for a week...then I might actually get some stuff comepleted and posted up here!!

The Thought Fox - February 23, 2006 06:11 PM (GMT)
Aw. We need some sort of inspiration generator on the forum. Like those random name generators, but not.

aleana15 - February 25, 2006 03:29 PM (GMT)
Now there's an idea...

There probably is one somewhere, but probably not any good. -_-

I have managed to write 2 sides of A4 in the past week - and at the moment thats alot for me!!

RaptureTaylore - March 3, 2006 06:37 PM (GMT)
I wrote about a page of mystory I feel so happy that means that when Aine does her bit all the gaps are filled up

DragonLady4 - April 12, 2006 09:50 PM (GMT)
...bit late, but. 'They' that say bunny for an idea is most of the internet forums. Get with the lingo :P

luciddream - April 13, 2006 12:57 AM (GMT)
Bit late on this thread I guess, but thought I would give my input. To take a quote from Writing the Short Film by Pat Cooper and Ken Dancyger:

"Anyone who has ever been confronted by a small child's searching gaze or seen an infant gulp down its surroundings with its eyes (Where am I? Who are you? What's going on here?) will recognise that from early in their lives, human beings have an intense need to understand the world around them, to make sense of things. Inventing and embellishing stories are ways to satisfy that need; the first stories human beings told themselves and each other were about how everything in the world came into being, how things came to be the way they are."

For me the joy of losing yourself to a good story gives a chance to experience life from another perspective, to see things in a new way, or to go on crazy, fun or scary adventures outside the scope of the "real world". In creating stories for other people, I hope that maybe I can give some of that joy to them. I also feel I have an unusual PoV in general and people who have read my work tell me it makes them look at things differently after (although I'm not sure exactly what they mean lol).

That was a little longer than I meant it to be  ah well.. :P

Three - April 15, 2006 08:49 PM (GMT)
My turn to be the late one!... grr... I forgot what I was going to say... My muse has left me, too, lately.

The Thought Fox - April 16, 2006 06:45 PM (GMT)
Lol, do you think these muses have a shared hiding place? Do they congregate under library floorboards or something?

Three - April 16, 2006 07:39 PM (GMT)
I don't know... but if mine doesn't return I'm launching a formal search and rescue. (or finding a replacement). lol. :D

The Thought Fox - April 19, 2006 09:38 AM (GMT)

red lantern - May 29, 2006 12:17 PM (GMT)
I write because I enjoy it, I get an idea or scene in my head and if it sticks I write about it. Sure I would like to be rich and famous from my writing, but its not necessary to make me happy in doing it. I just do it because I enjoy it and because through my writing I can share my ideas: and hence share me.

barokoshun - June 1, 2006 01:47 AM (GMT)
I write because... I can't not write. even when its not getting written down the stories are still going on in my head. Sometimes I wonder if when I'm not thinking about them or writing them, they aren't still going on their merry way without me. And then sometimes when I'm working on one and I'm going in one direction, the story or the character starts dragging me off in some other direction. That is so fascinating. It's like they have a life of their own and start dictating terms. Sometimes I let them have their way if it looks good and other times I have to put my foot down. And then of course there's the weird thing that happens when a character from one story starts trying to muscle in on another story. So I guess another reason I write is for one of the reasons I read, or watch movies, or pay attention to dreams: I want to know what's going to happen next.

DragonLady4 - June 3, 2006 01:10 PM (GMT)
ooh! Your characters dictate things too? *kindred spirit* Mine have long and pointless conversations a lot of the time, that amuse me but probably no one else.

Three - June 3, 2006 10:42 PM (GMT)
Mine are like spoilt children... Exactly.

DeVane_Novelist - June 20, 2006 05:15 AM (GMT)
Well, initially I got started writing really REALLY bad poetry. There was one in particular that some people like and made the suggestion that it needed to be lengthened into maybe a short story.

I filed the comment away, never thinking more about it.

I love slash fic...particularly C/P slash fic. (For those of you that don't know what that is, it's fanfic from Star Trek: Voyager featuring Commander Chakotay [the 'C'] and Lt. Tom Paris [the 'P'].

Well, I was surfing around and came across a challenge for C/P writers, thought I'd take a stab at it...and been working on various slash pieces ever since.

Now, the tale of how I started in with novel writing is a completely different tale.

I promise I'll keep this short and sweet. LOL

I had my protagonist "introduce" himself to me one night and I've been "working" with him ever since.

The Thought Fox - June 20, 2006 03:05 PM (GMT)
lol. Sounds "interesting"

lil_aber_lisa - June 20, 2006 07:53 PM (GMT)
yay for slash writers , sorry for the insanity not sure if thats the reaction to the injection for a filling today or what

i to like slash writing, as can be seen in the fanfiction section of this forum, i started with harry and draco from hp , and have since been writing mcbeck (McKay and Beckett) of stargate atlantis

that pairing of tom and chakotay , is one i never heard of , although my brain seems to like that idea

I found i prefer writing fanfiction than fiction in itself, and the recent comments i received off a community in lj about 'the rape' which is on here, i was flammed beyond recognition , crisp as coal , except they didnt even bother to give constructive ideas to help me correct the probs - oh well

any how im babbling , sorry

= )

hope everyone is well on here

lisa

Gemsykins - August 12, 2006 12:25 AM (GMT)
I write because something will happen and it will trigger off a plot bunny in my head that runs it's course, whether I want it to or not. Of course, my characters generally tend to show me only the beginning and the end of the story, and I'm left to make up the middle. Or they'll show me the beginning and middle, and not the end. Gits.

Plus I write slash. And seem to be kinda good at it too, which shocks me. Well, being vaguely good at anything shocks me, but still...
