ok i know this is a random note, but i wonder if it was illegal for a landlord to be able to make us live in a house with no central heating, do you think we could get our rent back for that week,

Think i found something on office of fair trading website. It says they should keep in working order heating, water etc...

Hmm the weeks rent back would be really nice....
I think we are sending (or have sent) an e-mail to the student union, as our delightful landlord sent round a general handyman, instead of someone who might have been able to sort the problem. Then we were told that a plumber was supposed to come round tonight.
Needless to say that hasn't happened, so we are still cold.
I'm not sure if we've had a reply back from the union yet.
P.S I live in the same house as Lisa, just in case anyone was confused...

yeah an email has been sent to the accommodation officer about it because this isnt the first time he has sent around an untrained man to do something , one of the electric meters was broken and so he sent a handyman round who made a hole with a hammer in and we had to call an electrician , who wasnt impressed at the mess and said it was very dangerous
thankyou for the links

Hmm- is there not a way you could see the accomodation officer- cause think its something that needs to be sorted asap rather than waiting around for e-mail!
Hmm thats not good- is this handyman a friend of his or something?

hiyah stressederica33, we sent the woman an email to let her knwo what was goin on, as we complained about the landlord before , becuase he told one of our friend to f off back to her own country and that he wouldnt have let her move in if he had seen her first !
he finally have heating after a good week, we ended up having to call out a 24hr plumber as the so called plumber our landlord knew wasnt coming to us on thursday or friday

ohh nasty...
don't sound nice person.. surely he should be liable to pay plumber costs?
(soz short and sweet- not well...) :(

We gave the plumber our landlord's address to send the bill to - we're not going to pay for it!
But the good news is that we now have lovely heating and lovely hot water! :D

Does landlord know u called plumber out? Can't see he's got any comeback cause think he's meant to make sure all that sort of thing is in working order!!
Did the plumber say what was wrong?
