Alright I need a lil nidge with my story. Okay, so right now, the cat (yes a cat!!) is going to get help for my star, Danielle, but he has to get to America from England and I want it to be a years wait. Danielle has to do what the dude Brown says and all I know is it's gonna be bad. Like stealing or something but I need enough to take up a year's worth of time. I need hardships and stuff and I'm fresh out of ideas...

It sounds interesting. If she steals something, or commites a crime of any sort, then she could end up in prison - that would take up the year you want and provide her with hardships. You could then have the cat sneaking into the prison to keep her company, and perhaps helping her to escape...

If you didn't want to do prison, you could have her and Brown go on the run. Living rough will be hard, and it can give you something to refer back to, such as "I remember when i had to hide in a forest...", etc.
