Title: Which do you prefer to write in...?
Description: 1st, 2nd, 3rd person?

DragonLady4 - March 18, 2005 01:00 PM (GMT)
I don't suppose many people will write in second, but ah well.

3rd person for me ^_^

stressederica33 - March 18, 2005 09:31 PM (GMT)
Hmm... i chose what i tend to write in.. but it was between 1st and 3rd... but generally 3rd!

Gemsykins - March 18, 2005 11:31 PM (GMT)
1st and 3rd. Usually 3rd. I don't think I've ever seen something written in 2nd. (Although I probably have, and am just being very dumb today)

aleana15 - March 19, 2005 10:03 AM (GMT)
It depends what I'm writing, but its usally 3rd with some 1st every now and then for variety. I think I have seen some writing in the 2nd person, but at the moment I can't remember where.

The Thought Fox - March 19, 2005 10:07 PM (GMT)
I tend to write in the third person, cos it means you can easily switch to other people without being to confusing. that said, the farseer trilogy showed me how powerful first person can be, so i might give that a go

Kaithar - March 20, 2005 04:14 PM (GMT)
Third person, for the simpicity of it.

DragonLady4 - March 21, 2005 09:31 AM (GMT)
Second person writing would probably be in those game books where you skip from page to page. Thats the best example I can think of.

THIRD all the way!

Goose - March 23, 2005 05:19 AM (GMT)
There are different types of first second and theird person as well. I was studying them yesterday, bubt i forgot what they were called. Somthing like seiatric second, very confusing.

I use third most of the time, but i love first

aleana15 - March 30, 2005 09:27 AM (GMT)
I find first person good for short pieces where you want to quikly get someone's views and feelings across, but I don't think I could write a long piece in it entirely.

Green Child - March 30, 2005 09:31 PM (GMT)
I was taught they were called persepective (the diffent branches of each style that is) my The Thing story for example is wriiten (generally) in third person first perspective

The Thought Fox - March 31, 2005 06:43 PM (GMT)
alright, cocky :P

We know they're called perspectives, but we say view cos it's quicker!

Rapture_Taylore - April 3, 2005 01:23 PM (GMT)
3rd persons good with lots of character but I think 1st is good if you focus on just one as then its easier to get their thoughts and feeling across

Grogdon - April 4, 2005 12:15 PM (GMT)
I'm both 3rd and 1st. But since everyone voted for 3rd I decided a change of pace was in order and voted for 1st. ^^

Rapture_Taylore - April 10, 2005 02:00 PM (GMT)
I like both 1st and 3rd so............ I dunno which is best depends on what you want to write I guess

writergurl - August 16, 2005 12:54 AM (GMT)
I just started writing third but I voted for 1st because when I first started writing stories in the third grade I used first person and found it very simple. I still use 1st person more then third; it shows my charcters actions better!

The Thought Fox - August 16, 2005 11:32 AM (GMT)
I really should try first person, i think it would give my characters more depth. My characters are my failing - i'm all about the plot

aleana15 - August 16, 2005 06:41 PM (GMT)
I find the opposite. Characters are really easy to create, but finding a decent plot to fit them in is a really challenge. Thats why I like writing short clippits, were very little storyline is actually needed!

Actually, I've just finished reading a novel that was written in the present text. Not excatly what we're talking about I know, but I haven't seen books using the present text.

Rapture_Taylore - August 21, 2005 02:30 PM (GMT)
I agree I find characters easy to make up its mainly hard for me to find an interesting plot

stressederica33 - August 21, 2005 07:29 PM (GMT)
Hmm i find characters hard... i always end up basing them on people i know but try to tweak them a bit so that they're not completely like them. Inventingness in characters is my downfall!

DragonLady4 - August 21, 2005 07:51 PM (GMT)
lol I just jump from character to character. i love them! ^_^

Rapture_Taylore - August 21, 2005 08:01 PM (GMT)
My characters usually have some mad qualities though for example one of them throws a cheese grater at a werewolf - it was silver but its still weird!

DragonLady4 - August 22, 2005 04:59 PM (GMT)
my characters are my LIFE I tell you. LIFE. I would DIE without them! yes.

Rapture_Taylore - August 22, 2005 07:07 PM (GMT)
*cough* right........

The Thought Fox - August 23, 2005 02:59 PM (GMT)
*aside* Can we have a straight jacket on standby?

Anyway, DL, i think you need to teach me how to do characters!

DragonLady4 - August 24, 2005 04:26 PM (GMT)
its a love thing  you have to love and understand them completely!

The Thought Fox - August 24, 2005 08:32 PM (GMT)
Kinda hard to love people who don't exist.

Not for you, obviously, but for me...

stressederica33 - August 24, 2005 08:41 PM (GMT)
lol...

aleana15 - August 25, 2005 06:48 PM (GMT)
Well you have to try and imagine that they do exsit and are real people (to a certain point at least). That way you can think about how they would recact to situations etc etc.

DragonLady4 - August 27, 2005 01:21 PM (GMT)
indeed

and how dare you say they are not real? the voices in my head say otherwise!!

aine - September 1, 2005 07:59 PM (GMT)
the people in my shoe box agree with the voices in your head DL
isnt that right jimmy?
*jimmy nods*
see!

The Thought Fox - September 5, 2005 08:09 PM (GMT)
People? As in plural? How big a shoebox is it?
