Title: how can there be a hell if God forgives everyone?
Description: morality and religion

aine - January 16, 2005 10:16 PM (GMT)
For the pass couple of years, I have been questioning the presense of God...for reasons that have happened in my so far short life
some people at my school have said that you need to ask for forgivness before you can be forgiven, but I have not heard that anywhere in the bible. So if God forgives everyone, even if they don't ask for help than how can there be a hell? Its just been stuck in my mind for a bit and I was wondering if anyone here had any answers about this.

Green Child - January 18, 2005 07:31 PM (GMT)
Because, acording to the Cristian ethos there are things known as unforgivable sins, only jesus was known to forgive them, which made him so special, murder for one and it all hinges on the idea of remorce, if you have none to hell you go.
My own religion dictates that you travel to where you deserve, if you are truely remorceful or have lead a good life then it is were you most desire to go, if not then well, you get the picture.....

aine - January 18, 2005 07:39 PM (GMT)
oh okies!
is atheism a religion?

Kaithar - January 18, 2005 07:57 PM (GMT)
no, its the lack of one.

Green Child - January 18, 2005 07:58 PM (GMT)
Kind of the anti religion......when you die you die...not very inspiring, most ppl MY age claim to be sceptics, which is easier...(BTW...I bet you kai is an atheist)

aine - January 18, 2005 08:02 PM (GMT)
i dont think he is actully. are you kaithar?
i dont think there's a god.
i always wanted to believe in something. i dont like the idead of ...just dying.

stressederica33 - January 18, 2005 09:24 PM (GMT)
hmm... thats a big question re god.. don;t know what to believe but as u say aimne its the worry about dying...

aleana15 - January 18, 2005 09:55 PM (GMT)
its strange, I'm a christian so I believe in heaven, but at the same time am scared of dying. I just try not to think about it and life for the present

Gemsykins - January 18, 2005 09:58 PM (GMT)
I know I'm going to hell. I'm an athiest, and crush on little boys in films. (Well, only two)

So yeah, I know I'm going to hell. Although I like to think of myself as a good person.

I stop believeing in God when my great-nan died.

DragonLady4 - January 19, 2005 12:01 PM (GMT)
I think I am an agnostic Christian. ....Altho I would prefer to live in my character Star's world and believe in The Power ^_^

aine - January 19, 2005 04:27 PM (GMT)
i'm not scared of death i just dont want death to be the end.....ya know what i mean?

Green Child - January 19, 2005 05:45 PM (GMT)
Yep, expierence and life changes everyones perspective though, death caused me to find religion while it caused Gem to loose it, i reckon that as long as you open at least to the idea then you shouldn't have to worry about it unless you really want to because a) it's depressing and B. apprently God forgives so he shouldn't mind if you're unsure *adds in a whisper religion is what death beds are for*

i disagree with this. As i think is the cases with most religions you either have to be properly dedicated or your counted as an atheist.

i am a christian, although i have a very odd outlook on the world for one. To be honest though my outlok on the world is different to most peoploes on a great deal of things.

aleana15 - January 21, 2005 03:36 PM (GMT)
I don't believe that you have to be particularly dedicated to your religion. Religion, and the religious texts that accompany them, seem to me to be guides to how to live our lives.

I try and treat the world and the people around me as the Bible says, taking into account that the bible was written a long time ago and has been translated many times, but I don't feel I have to go to church every week, though i go occasionally because I like the siging and the atmosphere.

I guess religion gives us assurence that there as something after we die, which I find nice and stops me from dwelling on it too much.

Kaithar - January 21, 2005 04:39 PM (GMT)
thats not really what i meant about dedicate. You don't have to go to church every week but you do have to fully believe that christ is the son of god, that he died so that our sins might be forgiven and that he rose again from the dead. You can't just semi believe it.

Green Child - January 21, 2005 05:50 PM (GMT)
I was more refering to hell in that idea kai, just because you are unsure it does not mean that you should go to hell, if you are open to the idea of God, any God then you should be allowed to live in paradise buddy. I do think that if you wish do believe you have to be sure and dedicate yourself in someway to that belief, but if you start with the tennants of christian religion I will start with it's hypocracy and mention some saints that should rightfully be burning in hell. (back down religion boy)

DragonLady4 - January 22, 2005 08:14 PM (GMT)
I think taht all forms of God are the same God, after all, Adam and Eve are mentioned in both the Kuran/Qu'ran and the Bible.
Hindu Gods could well be different facets of one being
Buddism is more of a philosophy than a religion as such, as there is not god
And GC's religion could be more like the roots of God in nature and such. So everyone's right.

Maybe Jesus was sent to keep things up to date in religion...if so, it just divided things, which is a shame. Maybe we will get another Jesus sometime...

Green Child - January 22, 2005 09:06 PM (GMT)
That is very very similar to the main tenet of my religion. it seems my views are starting to infect you

DragonLady4 - January 22, 2005 09:14 PM (GMT)
I've thought it for a while...possible startign when I read an extract fromt eh Qu'ran in RE abotu Adam and Eve.

Yve (Sp?) the muslim festival, is about when Abraham was prepared to kill his son for God. Same as in Bible

stressederica33 - January 22, 2005 11:19 PM (GMT)
hmmm thats quite interesting.. often wondered what the diff types of religion say..

aine - January 23, 2005 02:02 PM (GMT)
sometimes i ask myself really strange questions.
is god male or female? i always imagine god to be female, mainly because I don't see a male figure when I think of someone that nutured the world and all the living things on it into exsistence. Then someone told me that God is a being of omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience. what does that mean?

stressederica33 - January 23, 2005 09:21 PM (GMT)
hmm thats interesting cause i my first thought of god was male... hmm...

DragonLady4 - January 24, 2005 10:14 AM (GMT)
I think neither

Kaithar - January 24, 2005 10:19 AM (GMT)
omnipotent = all powerful
omnipresence = everywhere at once
omniscience = all knowing

aine, have you ever read the old testament, a book that has a lot of the wrath of god in. It's hard to imagine a female doing that sort of thing.

There are a few things wrong with genesis, one bit being that it say god created man in (his) image, but by that does it really mean physical image or that we are bound by similar minds. Does god even have a physical image? only the dead would know and they are in no condition to answer us.

the other problem being that god created the world in 7 days and that people were made on the 6th (i think) We know that the world had been aroud for a long time before the first thing that could be considered human lived on it. However to a being of eternity does time even have meaning? Genesis clearly isn't a first hand account of what happened so maybe the person who wrote it was mistaken on the time aspect of the vision he was given.

Green Child - January 24, 2005 03:29 PM (GMT)
Then again you can argue that we dont know how long a God's day is, it could be mellenia, also with the bible you have to take into account that it has been translated over and over again, and that human minds may not be able to grasp exactly what God is so they call it male to allow their minds to comprhend it.

aine - January 24, 2005 08:16 PM (GMT)
i have never read the any part of the bible and i dont intend to either. to be honest i'm scared of touching it.
this is going to sound stupid but i am actually scared of the chuhrch and the bibile and the religion in general. i dont know why but going inside the church scares me and makes me cry.
...and if i hear a joke about me being possesed i will break you in half....just remeber that ^_^

stressederica33 - January 24, 2005 10:07 PM (GMT)
hmm interesting..

aine - January 25, 2005 07:53 AM (GMT)
honestly, i just cant go into a church.

hah! If you say so, boy, but haven't you ever seen girls fight? They're spiteful!

Kaithar - January 25, 2005 11:30 AM (GMT)
lol, perhaps. I just don't see them thinking, hmm these people are sinning and turning against me. I know lets burn their city to the ground

Gemsykins - January 25, 2005 11:36 PM (GMT)
You've obviously never annoyed me. :P

DragonLady4 - January 26, 2005 09:58 AM (GMT)
 or me

Kaithar - January 26, 2005 10:46 AM (GMT)
meh whatever i can't be bothered to continue this, i'm for the opinion that god has no physical appearance as a main but can appear in any shape to people.

Green Child - January 26, 2005 03:41 PM (GMT)
REALLY? you havent met alot of women have you?

aine - January 26, 2005 04:53 PM (GMT)
How often do you go to church?
Why do you go to church? Do your parents make you? Do you go on your own? Do you enjoy it or wish to be over with? Who do you go with?

I've only gone to churches for funerals and weddings if not for these occasions, I would probably never set foot in a church. I've never felt comfortable in them, they bring back bad memories.

aleana15 - January 26, 2005 05:17 PM (GMT)
I don't tend to go to church at home, but at Uni I've started going to a really nice church were most of the students go.

I don't go every week, but the congregation are moslty students and there's alot of singing, which I like. Its nice to spend a bit of time away from college work and things, and afterwards I walk along the promenade for a bit before walking home. It is really nice and relaxing to watch the waves, particularly if the sun's out and its not too windy.

aine - January 26, 2005 05:29 PM (GMT)
..you'r making it sound romantic....STOP IT!!

Gemsykins - January 26, 2005 10:17 PM (GMT)
I hate funerals. They're so depressing. I like life to be happy. When I die, I want people to celebrate the fact that I was alive, wearing bright colours and playing my favourite songs, rather than wearing black singing hymns and crying.

stressederica33 - January 26, 2005 10:50 PM (GMT)
Really only go to church at special times of yr like xmas etc.. i work sun morns..

Go because its a family thing and just think maybe i should go at special times at least- i think thats why i go. Go with nan and aunt and occasionally mum.

hmm Aleana that sounds nice... hmmmm...

well theres Gemz will...

put it in your will ^_^

if (in the far far future) I attend your funeral (hopefully never happen) shall wear bright colours and play Busted for you. But I WILL cry!
