Title: Character Requirements

Lugana - December 24, 2003 02:04 AM (GMT)
Part I: The easy part

Name – This is an obvious one. Add a first name, last name, nickname, whatever, just put something here.

Race(optional)- just that, the character’s race. Elf, human, vampire, etc. If this field is omitted we will automatically assume it’s a human

Occupation(optional)- just what your character does

Weapons(optional, but very highly recommended)-A list of your character’s armament. Guns, knives, swords, shields, all things of such nature should be listed here. It is the mod’s decision as whether or not to approve a character on this basis

Appearance/height(optional)/weight(optional)- a physical description of your character. Although we would like a good detailed description, we will not overly chastise you for it. Once again, it is up to the mod handling your submission to decide if they should withhold approval until you have added enough physical description to appease them.

Original source(on certain characters)-This must be filled if you are getting a non-original character approved

Abilities-This will mostly be your character’s set of skills and, of course, abilities. Although they don’t all have to, we will be looking for connections here and with the bio

Weaknesses-Pretty much all of your character’s weaknesses, both physical and psychological. Once again, we are looking for good connection with the character’s history.

Part II: The Big One

Biography- This is by far the single most important piece of the submission. What you write here could very well make up for faults seen in the previous sections or just flush the entire thing down the crapper.

We basically want two things here. The first is the character’s personality, and second is the character’s life story. Childhood, adolescence, and adulthood, we want all big events and your character’s reaction to those events that shaped who your character is now. Pretty much everything you listed in the previous sections should have some roots nestled in this area, weaknesses and abilities, especially. A character’s personality influences the way they see the events of their life and the events of their life influence the character’s personality. The more in depth you get, the better. The more you flesh out the character and the more you describe the different events in his life and his/her own personality, the better. We wish to really raise the bar in this area and if your submission is not approved, the(or a) mod will stick by your submission and help you extrapolate it to the nth degree and beyond. If it seems like too much, add a bit more just to make sure.

Be sure, however, we are not looking for huge lengths of filler. We don’t need to know how little Timmy dropped his lollypop in the playground and never saw it again. We’re looking for the events that had a big impact on the character’s life. Maybe little Timmy was constantly left alone as a child and so grew up learning not to rely on other people, that would be something we’d look for, but once again, detail. Why was he left alone? And things of that nature.

NOTE: we are willing to be lenient on the depth of the biography under certain conditions. Mostly, if you are seeking to approve a joke character that needs very little depth compared to a serious character. It is the mod’s decision to view this how they see fit, taking into consideration the rest of the submission.

Rules:

Above, I outlined what we’re looking for in the actual submission. There are, however, some guidelines and rules to follow.

1. Do not harass the mods into approving your character. We do our best to look through every submission and will rarely go more than a day without looking through and commenting on the submissions

1 (A). The mods have the final decisions regarding character submissions. If you have a question, PM the mod, but ABSOLUTELY NO FLAMING OR HARASSMENT. Any such action will result in disciplinary action deemed suitable by us.

2. The first decision may not be the last.

2 (A) The mods may bring things to the attention of our peers and so approvals can be temporarily revoked pending an update by the submitter.

2 (B). We mods will try to keep it within two days of the initial approval. If a decision is revoked within that time, it is your job to proceed with the changes described by the mod.

2 ( C). Should we revoke a submission after those two days, the submitter will be notified via PM by us.

3. Only one character per submission. No exceptions.

3 (A). Failure to comply will result in immediate veto of submission.

4. Character limits:

4 (A). Non-original characters-5 (unless you had them before the original character limit was set)

4 (B). Original characters- No Limit

5. Additions/Updates

5 (A). Multiple character updates (changes/drops) allowed in a single thread

5 (B). Links to original submission must be provided

6. When asked by a mod to add towards a submission, do not edit the original submission, use a new post to allow for comparison
