Title: Writing Tips From Professionals
Description: II: Catherine Web- Getting Published

Tips I picked up from Catherine Webb. She's the same age as me (18) and she's already published three books, including the awesome Mirror Dreams and Mirror Wakes.

HOW TO GET PUBLISHED

> First, you need to decide whether or not to get a Literary Agent. Literary Agents will be more critical when returning your work, whereas publishers usually give you a straight “No!”, and some agents are more recognised by some publishers than others. Find out about agents with the Internet, Writer’s Handbook, or from word of mouth.

> Once you send it off, you may get sent back some editing tips, or suggestions. YOU MUST LISTEN TO THEM!!!

> Once you get published (which is not likely going to happen for a looong time), publishers will begin to trust you and require nothing more than a synopsis [a five-page flavour of the plot and main character] and a few samples, like the first few chapters. Be warned though, when it happens (getting published, that is), publishers will prefer to have more of the same stuff. You may not be able to switch genres easily. Good luck, though!!

Another place for good info on getting published, and just general fantasy writing, is Orson Scott Card's How To Write Science Fiction and Fantasy. I recommend it!
