After quite a gap, the Weekly Thought has returned![cheer]

Existance: What is it good for?

I have come to a rather interesting conclusion today: the world, in it's greatness and splendour, is nothing more then a figment of my imagination. I know what you're thinking, that I'm just insane, but hear me out, and maybe you'll question yoru existance.

First off, pinch yourself in the arm. Hurt, huh? Pain, a feeling commonly connected with existance, is the muscles in your body sending electric signals to your brain, telling you some outside force is causing bodily harm. Pretty simple, eh? But what if these signals were nothing more the interpetations by your brain? In my own, slightly insane opinion, all the world contains is our perception. Is there truth behind the rhododendron bush outside my window? Is the tree in my yard a physical object, or a mental barrier that my mind will not allow me to overcome?

Here comes the common hole in the arguement: If existance isn't real, then how can we relate in any way with something, such as a building? What if every human in the world shared the same mental projection of the world, one so strong that it is made real? Something deep within our minds that binds us to a single mindset?

These ramblings may seem crazy, but they are my current view of the world.

Desponded out.

there is another whole in your story. if the world is a figment of your imagination then surely you don't exist either. if so then you don't have the capability of imagination. if you do exist and so have the capability of imagination then where are you. for if you exist then you take up space. everything that exists is somewhere but clearly you arn't on the world because according to you it doesn't exist.

the only senario that will work in both ways is a matrix typed senario where you do exist be you percieve the world differently to how it is. if that is so then everyone else exists in which case it is beyond coincidence that everyone pecieves the same thing. this would mean that someone is influencing what we think.
if this were the case then it would be impossible for people to have dreams. and it would also be impossible for people to create novels because if someone was controlling your thoughts then imagination is beyond you and no mind could create the imaginations of every person on this planet.

who better to combat Loner's weird theories than the master of picking apart theories himself: Kaithar!

Kaithar - June 7, 2004 09:27 PM (GMT)
exactly. just like i am the master of picking apart any post.

DragonLady4 - June 9, 2004 12:14 PM (GMT)
*bows to master*

*reads both posts*

*brain explodes*

Kaithar - June 9, 2004 01:19 PM (GMT)
it's not that hard to understand. you've just got to realise that i logically ripped apart an illogical post which requires illogical thought.

p.s something i missed. another possibiltity along those lines is that each persons thoughts are controlled by another person who then instills all these thoughts on their person. however this would mean that the population of the planet would have to be 100 times the size as there would be millons of othr jobs to do and taking care of a person would be a 24hour job. this would mean that the planet would have to be vastly bigger than it is now which would mean that the gravitational pull would be vastly increased so that it wouldn't be possible for life to exist ruling out that line of thought.

*brain melts and trickles out of ears*
