So what kind of army would be good for a beginner? Same for wfb.

for 40k i would say space marnes they are a pritty simple army to lern to play with pluse you can make them as original as you want with loads of different units out there to use.
try getting the battle of maggarra box set it will give you everything you need to start with buddy.but the choice is yours buddy.

Definately listen to Cranvill there, the BfM (Battle for Macragge) is pretty good value
http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/st...9002&orignav=10Check it out there.
Of course you could always choose an army you like the look of best and get the rule book (hardcover only, sorry) and the matching codex (book that has the rules of your specific army) and learn it as you go along

Yeah, Space Marines are the way to go for beginners.
High AS, Good BS, Easy to paint ;)
For WHFB, the best equivalent is either Empire, or Chaos... suprisingly...
With the BfM boxed set you also end up with a heap of Tyranids... so I would suggest going for the SM boxed set, which is about 50 quid, if you live in the UK

Id have to agree, SM are a very good army for beginners.
the good point about macragge is that you get a small 40k rulebook in it, saving you 25 quid (if uk res)
also if you want a cheap WH army you could consider the skull pass box, as you get a lot of very shiny dwarves and lots of gobbos for 50 quid, plus another mini rulebook for warhammer.
dunno how good they are for beginners but when i have seen them used dwarves seem very reliable.
does anyone know if GW are still running their swap stuff scheme for skull pass?

Not really sure what kind of think I want to play. It's a lot of money for finding out I don't like it! lol. Tried tyranids with a mate but didn't like them much.
