Title: Combat Patrol
Description: 40k in 40 minutes

After my two games of Combat Patrol last night I have come to the conclusion that 40k actually can be fun to play! I don’t think I feel this way just because I won but more because the Combat Patrol focus on the strengths of 40k – fast and bloody action with nice minis. Combat Patrol is also a good way to learn the rules properly – at least the basic set of rules, the other will come later.

Like I said, I like it but what do you guys think of 40k in 40 minutes? What experiences do you have with it?

Another thing I was wondering about is what your army list would look like. Try for yourself to put a 400 point list together – it is actually pretty tricky.

Hmm... For me, I enjoy the 40k in 40, but my friends don't play those very often, sadly.

I'll put together a list for myself tonight, and post it.

good fun but limited for some armies, marines always do well at it, nids tend to suffer a bit.

They didn’t do so well against my Orks though :D

I had reasonable success with the following patrol. Although mainly against Imperial Guard. The fact the the Combat Patrol rules allow Land Speeder Tornadoes is a big help for loyalists and tended to get the lads shot a lot.

Chaos Sorceror, Mark of Tzeentch, Twisting Path, Power weapon, boltpistol.

5 Chaos Marines, 4 bolters, autocannon

7 Chaos Marines, (Boltpistol/close combat weapon) Infiltrate, Frag grenades, Aspiring champion with power fist.

Combat Patrol can be real fun, bu tI don't really like it. Becasue I play Imperial Guard, and they really aren't taht good in small games. The basic troop choice costing 160pts without any weapons or other upgrades. But yeah, I can also field a lot of infantry, but not nearly enough to win just on mass. Then there is always the choice of Chimeras, they could work but... that's 80pts for it.

I guess my Combat Patrol for IG would look like this:

Doctrines
Close Order Drill
Abhumans
Afriel Strain
Rough Riders

Inf. Platoon
Junior Officer w/power weapon, laspistol
squad w/2 plasmaguns, Medic, Afriel Strain

inf. squad w/autocannon, plasmagun, Afriel Strain
inf. squad w/autocannon, plasmagun, Afriel Strain

Rough Rider squad
vet. sgt. w/hunting lance
7 rough riders w/hunting lances

Sentinel w/multilaser

Lay down lots of fire, counter-charge anything nasty with RR.
I think I'd have a good laugh with that list :D

Well, I never got around to calculating it, but my basic combat patrol would be a full squad of stealth suits, one or two fire warrior squads, and either a kroot squad or a devilfish.

Are you able to afford all that in a combat patrol?

I made a nice Speed Freak list a couple of days ago but I have misplaced it… I’ll have to get back to you on that
