Title: 40k Apocalypse
Lord Dante - July 31, 2006 01:42 PM (GMT)
I was wondering if anyone else had heard of this rumoured new expansion? Apparantly it's due out for around Nov 07 and is supposed to be for 40k sized battles of 3000+ pooints and features the regular use of superheavy tanks (it's release is supposed tto be alongside the plastic imperial guard baneblade and according to various internet sources -take it as you wish- an ork stompa).
I was wondering what everyone's thought of this were? Personally whilst I don't think it's a bad idea, I don't see what they can really do with it as the simple rules system that is 40k caters for game of this size pretty nicely already...what I'd rather see is some official advanced rules to make the game more complex for games of up to 2000 points (Although again, that is rumored...)
Cheers,
Ken

Well, hey, you're the staff guy onw, we turn to you for rumours!
But I have personally seen one of the plastic Baneblades. Whether there will be extra rules in order to fit it into the regular game remains to be seen.

Hehe true, but as a part timer I imagine I'll have little more status than a snotling so I still need to go searching for rumors like everyone else :D
What's the new plastic baneblade like?

Too small. It's not much bigger than a Land Raider, although the one I saw had been heavily orkified.
LinkThe Shadowsword in the foreground is a standard Forgeworld one I believe, while in the distance beyond the Raider is a Baneblade.

Ah I see...
That's a shame, well hopefully they won't stop doing the FW version.

this is the first iv herd of this adistion sounds pritty cool but like you said lots of us have been playing massive games for years wit the standard rules and have all ways dune ok.
its ony a few weeks ago that i played a 8000 pts game and that rocked ass big time.
what kind of rules could they change to make big games better any one any ideas

I'm not sure. I think it's fairly safe to assume that the Super-Heavy Vehicle rules are set in stone by Forge World although I do hear that some people do not like them, something about Super-Heavy vehicles are not terribly effective as they keep getting shot at and end up not doing anything. However, I've never used them so I can't comment on this although I imagine Games Workshop will extensively play test these rules and make any necessary modifications.
The same could also be true for fliers although this is only a guess. It's possible that because FW models are not allowed in many big events such as Grand Tournaments, Games Workshop will try and include them in the expansion so that they see more use and thus possibly increase FW's sales? Personally I would love to see more aircraft in 40k, although I'm stumped about what flying base to use, perhaps they should make a large flier one? (It's just I couldn't bring myself to buy a lightning strike or thunderhawk etc. only to have it mounted on one or more conventional flying bases ;))
I have to admit i'm not really sure what else. They won't be complicating the rules overly if they're dealing with really large games, however I can imagine them changing movement slightly to deal with the etxra large boards that will be used to play these huge games. I'm not sure what they would do exactly but I imagine it would be something along the lines of force-marching units...
Anyone else got any ideas?
Yours curiously,
LD

yer i can imagine the marc moveing or something simler will be in there not too shure what else though.
in the realy big games i use my chaos titan and in most cases it never last above turn one due to it being such a fire power magnet last time i played it my oponents got first turn and it never even moved or fried i was a bit gutted but i new it was likely to happen at least it took all there fire power to do which left my armur to hit him were it hurt.
i would love to play with aircraft but just carnt imagine them doing anything in normal size games sow theyy could feater more larger games.
