Hi all,
You'll have to bear with me, I'm not very familiar w/ the AGO. However, I am interested in finding more people around campus interested in miniatures games. I am particularly interested in 40k, however I also have some Warmachine models and could maybe be talked into AT-43. Some friends and I play short games occasionally around campus, but I'm looking to expand that pool as it dries up due to graduations and so on. Is there a crowd here that plays regularly/sometimes/possibly? I am also interested in running some sort of 40k campaign in the winter term, with games played around campus, and would be interested to hear from anyone that wants to join in.
On that note, if anyone is up for some 40k this Sunday evening, we will have a number of games going on at the Philadelphia Area Gaming Enthusiasts meeting by Rittenhouse Square. Contact me if interested.
In any event, it'd be great to hear from other players, on here or via email (jbk23@drexel.edu).
Thx!

I'm not too sure about the rest of the club, but I am interested in miniature games, especially 40K. Sadly, I don't have that much of an army built up yet, but I'd still like to attend the meeting. Can you either post more info in this thread or PM it to me on the forums?
If anyone ever wants to go play Warhammer outside the city. Saturday is warhammer day at Show Case Comics.
Let me know if your interested in going.
Hey folks,
First of all, it was... interesting... to meet many people from here at the meeting yesterday :)
To recap the brief 40k/minis discussion:
Next term I'm hoping to establish a concrete time period for some miniatures play on campus. Maybe that's right after the AGO meeting, maybe another time, we'll work that out as the term starts. Most likely we'll put up a Doodle and interested players can vote on the best times for them. I personally would prefer to have the session up in the middle of the day, say in the mid afternoon, and focus on short skirmish battles that people can complete on their lunch, etc. Thoughts on that are welcome.
For those specifically interested in 40k, given enough potential players, I'm planning on running a friendly ladder scheme throughout the next term. Rules aren't set yet and input would be great, but basic ideas are:
- The first couple weeks of the term will be a free play period for people to get in some "practice" games, try out their armies, relearn the rules, etc. After that the ladder will start, with rounds running every week. We'll keep a running tally online of the standings.
- Near the end of the term there will be some sort of final round, featuring slightly larger games or multiplayer matches to cap off the season and declare the champions for the term.
- Regular ladder games will be played at 250 pts. This is a good size for completing games within a long lunch break (hour and a half). It also means you don't need a ton of models in order to play. Players may use different army lists throughout the season, but must play the same race throughout. The term will end soon enough to move on and try out a different species in a new ladder.
- Units will have to follow their composition rules, but armies will not have to follow force organization charts. As an example, a unit of 3 space marine tactical troops would not be valid (such squads must have at least 5 models), but an army with no HQ units would be fine. Further restrictions may also possibly be applied, e.g. no units with 2+ saves.
- Playing fields will be between 2.5x2.5 and 3.5x3.5 feet. I'll provide terrain & fields (mats or small boards) to run a couple of games at once. Others are more than welcome to bring their own supplies as well.
- Missions will be determined randomly at the field of battle. Victory points will be used rather than unit kills for Annihilation missions. Objective based missions will be modified to reduce the number of objectives, reflecting the much smaller than usual armies being used.
- Games will be played w/ 40k Fifth edition rules. A good way to get the rules cheaply is the _Assault on Black Reach_ starter box, which includes the full rules (printed in smaller form) along with tons of miniatures. Many people have also been selling those rulebooks on ebay and other venues.
- You must have an up to date codex for your army or have one handy, e.g. if you and a friend will definitely both be attending the same sessions, then you can share a codex book.
- Proxies will be permitted within generous reason. Scraps of paper won't cut it, but nicely constructed paper cutout models will be fine. The key thing is ensuring different unit types are identifiable and appropriate sized bases and figures are used. A resource guide will be put up before the term linking to some good sources of suitable paper minis.
Thoughts?
Thx!
Hey, I'm gonna do some necromancing here now that the new quarter has started.
I'm interested in Warhammer 40k and Lotr SBG. I have a small Tau force and would be interested in playing games at showcase comics on Saturdays.
Also the ongoing 40k league sounds interesting.
