Title: Pre-Diabetes
Pommygirl - June 22, 2008 01:30 AM (GMT)
I have been diagnosed with Pre-Diabetes. I have to make an appt with a dietician sometime and lose at least 10kgs in weight and get exercising.
Just goes to show how suddenly your age creeps up on you. :(

Sorry to hear that.
You'll need to get on that treadmill.
Stop eating choc. and stop 10 sugars in yer tea.

35 though! You just don't expect that to happen. It just seems that health is deteriorating fast!

What a nasty shock :o . Time to get organised and send all of your chocolate to me so that I can help you get better  .

At least you have found put at a young enough age to do something about it.
I worry about diabetes as some of my family members have developed it in middle age. I hope that once you get over the shock you can still enjoy life as normal just watch the things you eat.
Take care
Mandy

Hi Michelle
Sorry to hear this, but can i be really thick and ask what pre diabetes is and what it means in terms of developing diabetes.
ohippy - June 22, 2008 01:55 PM (GMT)
I'd be interested to know that as well. Diabetes worries me, I am over 20kg overweight and my dad has diabetes but I just can't afford to get it in every way.
Sorry to hear that you have it though :flowers:

Pre-Diabetes is where your blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not quite high enough to be diagnosed with full blown Diabetes.
Your fasting raised fasting sugar should be under 5 and mine was 5.4 but after the glucose intolerance test my blood sugar levels were 8.9 when they should be under 7. I think to be diagnosed with diabetes you have to be at level 10 or more.
I only went in because I was having heart palpitations and the bloods showed this up. Still waiting for the results of the heart tests though.

Good luck Michelle with the diet and exercise.
I think actually if everyone was tested, most of us would probably be diagnosed with pre diabetes
Lynnj - June 23, 2008 07:45 AM (GMT)
Thanks for that Michelle.
Mel I think you're right there. I don't suppose there is a home test of any kind so you can get a heads up without your GP nipping your head.
Are weight and exercise the main things to watch for.

Yep but you only hinted :P .

I hope that the other tests work out OK and that this is remedied easily. It is good that they can catch this before it develops into full blown diabetes so at least you have a chance to build in some positive lifestyle changes.
Good luck with it all.

You know i was with you untill that coment.
I do wish you luck.
BUT WHY is it when You Women have to do something US Men have to get our fat arses of the couch as well. BUUUUT if we need to do some thing, it's get on with it??? see you when you get back.
Even when your giving birth, we'd rather be down the pub, wetting the babys head.
But NO we have to be there to get sworn at and called all sort of names. And listen to you lot screaming and turning into her from the exorsist. It's like a hundred pre menstrals in one night.
They don't tell you about that at birth classes.
I think you should leave your man to worry about you in his own way, sitting on the couch watching tv and wondering if he can get the hoovering and the dishes done before you get home.
