Lynnj - May 16, 2008 12:06 PM (GMT)
maybe I'm not understanding this properly but hasn't it always been the case that all applicants over 16 need a police check? Or is this some othr sort of police check.
TopCat3 - May 16, 2008 12:12 PM (GMT)
What a bloody joke. This was a convict colony for Chrissake and now they're getting all precious.
Northern Ireland? What is this about Northern Ireland? Oh get out of town!
What about all the suspect terrorists and drug runners they've let into the SW of Sydney????? (not so very far away from me...)

Yes.
To my knowledge that is not a new requirement.
Sounds to me like your agent is sadly lacking Coco.
coco - May 16, 2008 10:27 PM (GMT)
We had already done a police check.
But it was just a short one.
The wife has had 3 done.
Now this crap has came in.
It's a joke £70 each. More money.
I suppose it's a way of keeping people here or not letting them in Oz.
I always thought Oz had a UK flag on the corner of theres for a reason.
But obviously not,
I was talking to a phillipeano (prob spelt wrong lol ) that told me it was easyer for him to get here than it was for me to get to Oz.
i have a shadey past 20 yr ago I was a shit. fighting, stole a couple of cars.
Done a bit of Young offenders. Im not making excuses but I was brought up in childrens homes.
I have totaly turned my life around, but for what, I see guys I know that are into drugs ect swaning about from here to spain.
fancy cars ect.
And they say crime doesn't pay...

I can understand your frustration Coco.
But you are what you are because YOU made it that way.
What you have and what you do is what you believe to be right. It's what's you've worked for honestly. It's what your conscience allows.
So who is the richest person ?
The druggies who have the oft short lived monetary wealth or you who have won your own lotto of life ? Is there a cash value you can put on what you've done ? You've seen both sides of the coin and have chosen heads.
I think you are the winner mate.
I don't know how strong your family's desire is to get to Australia.....but you can answer that. If it's as strong as I suspect then don't let the hurdles put you off as you will live to regret it.
Most of us hit these walls during the visa process. The secret is to start removing the bottom row of bricks and it eventually tumbles down. Make the mountain a molehill.

Coco, why don't you search about for a hospital that will sponsor your wife? Some of them do pretty decent relocation packages and help obtain the visas. Downside is that she will be tied to that particular sponsoring hospital for a couple of years, but if it means you actually get out there, might be something worth looking into. As for your past re police checks, the fact that you have turned your life around and haven't been in trouble for all those years would certainly go in your favour. From what I've read about others with the same problem, they wrote a letter saying they had turned their lives around, realised the error of their ways etc etc. If you do choose to fo this way, you can get your agent to withdraw (if they have in fact submitted) your application and then bin them. They sound about as useful as the agent who works from Glasgow, with his daughter. Basically said I hadn't a chance, yet I decided to do iy myself and got a skilled independent visa. That's another way you could look at, saved me a lot of pennies too ! Don't give up on it Coco, maybe just need to go another route.

Bix mate, sometimes you astound me. That was so nicely put
Keep keeping on Marco, it has to be worth it in the end....
tiredwithtwins - May 17, 2008 09:23 AM (GMT)
there was a lot of discussion over on expats about this new police check, and whether applications submitted with the old police checks would be viable - not sure what the outcome was, but your agent should have known about these new ones being used - is your agent MARA registered? Id be having serious words with them about jsut what they are doing with your application ... most agents doing skills assessments/visa apps cost about £1500-2000, with fees from skills apps/visa on top - are you paying way over this? cos if you are i think they are taking advantage of you and fleecing you - i know the fees can be high if you have a complicated application, but they shouldnt be a continuous drain on your bank account 2 years later
im sure most agents should give you a pre-set fee structure, cos whether your application is complicated or not they have set protocols to follow for each problem and as experienced agents they know how long something should take to sort out and how to go about it. juniper and her hubby had probs with police checks as he is from overseas, but im sure even they didnt have to keep redoing them!! why has your wife had to do 3 already!???
seriously mate, think you need to be kicking your agents arse big style and insist on a structured breakdown of fees and costs you have incurred so far.
anything we can do to help, just shout

No it's an agency the wife has got the job through.
I spoke to the guy today, and he said he went in to see them, but they wouldn't budge. Even after he said that ours was in for ages and the job ect is there.
.
it's me I'm worried about I was ok with the 10yr check.
But 20yr ago I was in all sorts of trouble till the wife got a hold of me and told me to shape up or ship out.
All I can do is keep my fingers crossed....
.
:crossfingers: :crossfingers:
coco - May 19, 2008 04:44 PM (GMT)
Oh and I ment to add They have told us they will refund the oney for the checks..
tiredwithtwins - May 19, 2008 06:11 PM (GMT)
if its from 20 years ago you wont have anything to worry about - providing it wasnt murder or some such heinous crime!
sorry, i misunderstood, i thought you meant you had a migration agent; hope its all sorted soon :flowers:
coco - May 28, 2008 03:38 PM (GMT)
Thanks for all the encouragement.
I was feeling a bit down with it all.
I made a lot of mistakes in my early years, all ways fighting and in trouble.
Who knew years later it could still afect you..
Jeez talk about being punnished.
Any way I've my fingers crossed and I'll just need to wait AGAIN.
cheers
TopCat3 - May 28, 2008 11:32 PM (GMT)
Well, be prepared for it all to continue once you get here.
When you go to register with recruitment agents there is a question on the form which asks if you have ever been convicted of a criminal offence. I asked whether this was an optional question and was told no. I questioned the legality of them even asking such a question, given that anyone sitting in front of them would have done their time, so to speak, and should be allowed a fresh start without dragging that around for the rest of their lives. Seems not. Seems they are in fact allowed to ask and feel quite justified in doing so. I still favour the "criminal checks" system reserved just for anyone doing job that could be open to fraud, anything involving money handling etc. Then you sign a form to consent to criminal background checks being done. Personally I think that is a lot more relevant and dignified.
Sorry didn't mean to rant - well I did really I suppose - this sort of thing makes me so cross.
I hope you get your things sorted out soon.
coco - May 29, 2008 04:56 PM (GMT)
I know how you feel topcat.
Here in scotland we hear about pedos, rapists, ect.
Getting help to get jobs. even as part of there reabilatation soe crims, get trips abroad to help them.
Unless it's murder or rape, or soe other heanis ( or how ever it's spelt)crime.
It should be scrubed after 10 yr if you don't reofend.
This constant punishment is crap, how do you get your life in order if it follows you around the rest of your days.
I often see that Tommy seridan and wonder he was in jail more than once. But he is still an SMP. One rule I think.
