Title: Did anyone's children play instruments...
Description: ... in the UK?

If so how did they find the change over to the Aussie teaching and exam structure?

Also wondered what the cost is like and opportunities in school orchestras etc.

Any comments appreciated!

Jane my two were too young in the UK but they are starting up now and the cost of a lesson is $25 per half hour session. They seem to start around year 5 onwards with instruments in the schools regarding school orchestras etc here. It may be just where we are but they are also all linked to a cluster of schools here which includes the High School and the local state schools. Once a year they all get together for a massive show at the High School.

Thanks Sasha,

It unfortunate in an odd way but the upper school here has one of the best school orchestras in the country, they've been playing annually at the Royal Albert Hall for years. David is concerned that we'd be taking Steph away from real opportunities here in the UK. By the time we can get our permenant residency we should know how serious she is about music.

Don't forget that I'm stuck out in the middle of nowhere Jane so maybe in the larger cities they would have a lot more happening. It would be a shame for Steph to miss out on it all.

Our local private school where Bethany will be going puts a lot of emphasis on music with lessons and concerts and the local state High School has a really good music department. I am sure that if you are in a city the opportunities are even better but music is definitely not a write off here in the country either you just have to look for it.
I hope that things work out for you.
